Dear Programming Staff.
The News Front Page on the site does not quite give a good explanation for Willpower stat. What does it do?
Thank you.

And when properly roleplayed, it determines how much your character can resist the influence of others
((stoleded from Keikan, of course.))

What I've wondered about, aside from the fact that a "leader" type character would need both Willpower and Essence (in the sense of roleplaying, aside from ratings and such)-- which one would be more important? Really, I'm still confused about this "Essence". I used to think it also encompassed something like "Presence" or "Charisma" too, but this was recently shot down by a post of Aegohl's stating that Essence was in fact just some sort of Spiritual Energy... which in essence, Willpower already is ("Spirit", force of one's own will).
Just some pseudo-philosophical rambling of mine. Was wondering if a GM could explain it.

Willpower is the ability to stick to your owen wants through physical communications. Essence is mystical power and also is ther ability to stick to your desires from mystic communication (i.e mind control).

In summation, willpower is the physical manifestation of spiritual energy, and essence is the ethereal manifestation of spiritual energy.
(Ya beat me to the exact same post, FalCHLOROFORM!

Keikan Hiru on the Newbies Board wrote:You set 18 Points to...
Willpower:
You are always in the center when you enter a room, your charismatic way of speaking allows you to influence the opinions of others with much ease.
You almost always get what you want.
Essence:
Somehow your aura shines brighter than those of others, like a single star in a deep deep night.
This also prevents you from beeing unnaturaly influenced most of the time.

Yeah, I think nobody knows alright.
Willpower:

Essence:

Where's the difference?!
I think Cain's answer is best. And on a further note, I suppose you could say Willpower and Essence together work like Charisma?

Willpower ist needed to cast spells against people to break their essence.
This is not the only case willpower is needed for, but the most important. So willpower will be very important for battle mages, less important to potion making druids and you can forget about willpower if you roleplay a goldsmith.

Cool. I can't wait to meet a goldsmith character of yours in game, and convince him that he should give me huge amounts of gold for a big discount. No willpower means easy to manipulate by someone who knows how.
