GM Wipe question

I see that the official ruling on how we are to continue the RP after the wipe has been handed down but I see a big hole.

It's been decided that there will be no apocolyptic(sp?) event. If that's so, how are we planning to explain the great, widespread memory loss? Are the gods just gonna get really mad and wipe everyones memory? It seems that the the history/story of Illarion should be able to fill in that hole. After all the main focus here is RP, therefore we don't want a hole in it's history like - Um, everyone wakes up with complete amnesia for no reason, that just seems kinda like a cop-out when we could take advantage of the wipe to fill in some truely interesting history.

Anyhow, I just want to see what's going on since the descision apparently HAS been made.

Oh and the skill loss. We need an explanation as to why certain people wont be able to craft their famous harps anymore ;)

That is to be left up to each individual, as far as I'm aware.

Most people can come up with something......just have to hope they all kind of fit in with each other. My advice....everyone keep your reasoning small and personal. Or come up with a small group reason if you can organise such in time.

One thought...anybody who is restarting an old character from scratch (eg no history) could maybe tell everyone of their intention. Cut down on people "recognising" or "remembering" someone they should never have seen before.

-Everyone can continue his RP as if nothing has happened
-Everybody can of course start with brand new characters and brand new guilds
That means you cant restart with old characters if i did't read it incorrectly. There was no mention of that.

Nothing to say you cant if you want to.
Basically what you do has been left up to all individuals. There is no way of stopping people doing it anyway since its a personal choice...not part of the character stats.

The easiest solution for forgetting all names is to handle it as an ooc matter. This is what it is. It will be settled down in some days or few weeks, until each has the old names he used to have. In this case, there is no need for a big event.
It has happened all the time, that someone looses his name.dat. There was once just a bug to loose it. And once after changing the clientcode for the numbers to have unlimited numbers for players, many name.dats didn't work either.
A short wispered comment ((please #i)) and all is settled. Nothing to disturb roleplay.

@ Mimblethorp:

Well, in my opinion, an apocalyptic event would go entirely to waste on such an OOC issue. Why would you want an IC explanation for what is essentially an OOC issue? Wouldn't you prefer to play out an "apocalyptic event" in-game, arranged by GMs or other players? Why would you want it to fill in a transition period where nobody is in-game?
the descision apparently HAS been made
Yep, and there ain't no going back, mister! ;)

i had the idea of a plauge or fever causing everybody to sleep for a long time therefore losing their fitness

but then there mey be no need for the sleep part
perhaps a fever gripped the people causing them to become weak and tired
