Yes, I'd love to play again, but I simply cannot. I have the same problem I had last time I posted in this very thread


I'll repeat my dilemma:

One day, many many MANY months ago (say 9-10), my internet decided to crash. "Wireless Cable", is what it is, or at least thats what I call it. I had two online only games installed at the time, and since then, I've never been able to play them. One of these games was Illa, of course.


Every now and then, I try to log in, and I get the same error each time.

Well, I decided to try and reinstall everything, but the site is kinda... under construction right now. I also noticed there will be a new client with skill/item wipes and a new map! This gives me hope. With a new client, that means I may be able to log on again after so much time away from Illarion.

But, when the last updated client came out, I was still unable to log in (on any computer connected to the same internet). Perhaps my character files are bugged? The files with your characters' names on them, I mean. The ones with your log, your map data, etc. I never tried deleting them and re-logging in. I'll try that after I post this.

Or perhaps this wipe and new client will make everything better...?


Does any GM have any idea on... anything I've just written?

A router can cause problems. Is it possible for you to try without the router?

Extremely doubtful, actually. So the darn router did this all?! Bah!

It might not. Try a full virus and spyware scan.

I've done so, quite a few times already. I'll try logging in without any of my characters' files. Its worth a try at least...

Nope, didn't work. I re-installed everything and didn't use any of my files. Same error. How exactly would I try without the router?

Probably via the plug your router is plugged into. I think you can connect the computer directly to that rather than via the router.

Well, you see... It's all wireless. I don't exactly have a plug, just a card sticking out of the side of my computer. Also, the router is downstairs.

Try to ping the Illarion server.
ping 217.160.140.46
Is the command to do that. You should get an error. Tell me what it says.

Then, some words appear below and the window closes almost instantly. I'll try and take a screenshot of it just in time, so I can read them.

In the "run" bar, type "command" (without "") then type in:
ping 217.160.140.46

It will stay up forever then

I can't seem to log in either, i type my char name and password, then...nothing. Just a blank screen.
Is the server just down? or something more sinister

I got what i wanted...

Well, the connection is standing. it must be a firewall blocking port 3008.

Odd, I was pretty sure I had all firewalls turned off. I'll go mess around with them.

Oddly enough, it was on. I turned the firewall off completely, and tried to log in. No good. I restarted my computer, and tried again with multiple characters. Still, I was unable to log in. Same error.

Well, do the GM's have any suggestions?

The router might be blocking the port. I changed my router thingies to unblock the port, and tadaa, it works. (although my problem layed a bit deeper, because I had a DNS problem on top of that.)

How might one... unblock a port...? I'm pretty dumb when it comes to wireless things and routers and... all that fun stuff.

I suppose you mean move the rabbit-ears things? Are those ports?

don't you know someone, that has like, technical abilities 10 times as great as you? Might be helpfull, because I cannot explain it over PM, forums, or MSN. I would have to be actually there, because every router is different.

First to access your router you just type: "192.168.0.1" into your browser.
Then it will ask for a password and username... After that you should reach a setup screen where you can allow certain ports. Well thats atleast how it works with mine...

You might try to consult your router manual
"port forwarding" would be what you have to look for.

mine is 192.168.2.1, my friend's one is 192.168.0.254

That's why looking into the manual is always a good idea
I could easily tell you how to do something like that with my router, but there are way to many different models with different interfaces out there that we can give more then just a general hint on what to look for.

The first thing I would try is disabling the router built in firewall. If it works this way look out where to open blocked ports. If nothing helps try to set up your computer as "demilitarized zone" within the network. This will completely open your access to the net but keep protection in place for the other computers in your network.

I wouldn't disble the router totally thats just stupid, your computer would be dead from hackers in a couple of days...

I highly highly doubt this. I always used to work without a router, and it worked fine. Even without a firewall. Had to do a virusscan every once in a while, but hackers? Never even seen one..
