Staying as a ghost

Is it considered a bad idea for a character to stay as a 'cloud' after death?
It allows them to explore all sorts of places without being attacked so I can see people potentially exploiting it, but I can also see huge RP opportunities. Things like haunting the person who murdered you, or having to convince someone to make an offering to a god you angered before the cross will revive you (which can be RPed by just avoiding the cross).
Whats the official call? Is 'go to the yellow cross' a requirement or friendly advice?

There have been quests done before involving "ghosts" who wandered around and played certain RP parts. I don't think you have to revive yourself, but I personally don't know if staying as a ghost continues to lower your skills or anything. Hell, I'm not going to be the one who tries. None of my skills will go any lower

If you don't go to a cross you can lose more skills as thy slowly drain away. It's not really a good idea to stay as a ghost.

Aaand there would be your answer. So I suppose it's best to scurry along to the cross as soon as you keel over.

If you DO plan on doing this for RP reasons, do not bug other chars. They cannot to anything about it and is considered Force RP.

O_o Err... right...
You know that you can whisper as a ghost, right? If you want to do an RP as a ghost that involves other players, just find the one you want to RP with and whisper some ooc about working out some kind of RP with them.
And following someone around (stalking, haunting) isn't exactly forced RP, since you're not actually doing anything to them. They can choose to ignore you. Its when people go "#me stabs so-and-so to death" that things become forced RP. Things happen all the time that force you to make a decision for your character. Do you call a town attack forced RP? No. Do you call something that threatens the town forced RP? No. You call it "quest potential."

The GM's consider it that, so I would keep that in mind. As long as the player is fine with it then it is alright.

The GM's consider following someone forced RP. Then the GMs are far too strict and need to ease up, if that's the case. (Yes, I said it. Ease up.) There should be an extent to which you can force RP. Otherwise people will start saying "your quests are forcing me to do something I dont want to. That's forced RP." Most everything that is lightly thought about or not thought about at all can be considered "forced RP."
My advice, do it anyway. You can't do actions as a ghost, so you're not going to be able to "#me kill" anyone or anything along those lines. If the player tells you he doesn't want to get involved in a quest because he is being singled out randomly, then don't. After that, its forced RP. Only assholes are going to incessantly complain about you trying to do some small quest involving them, unless you persist when they ask you to stop.

If you want to play a ghost and have a good story in background, why he became a ghost and possible solutions to help you, write the GMs, that they help you.
There's also thepossibility to make a char invisible for playing ghosts.
This happened before to some chars.
But be aware, not all will be happy to see/feel a ghost.
And it is right, that you loose skills by being cloud, but very slowly.

When I first came to Illarion, I had fun first turning into a ghost and exploring the whole island. I didn't find out until very later that assuming the cloud form damages your skills.
Sure you can RP as a wandering...entity, or whatever, so long as you don't annoy people with it. Fortunately, the revive feature, to my knowledge, has been booted in terms of potions and spells. So if you do decide to do this cloud thing, jackasses won't be trying to revive you so their magical skills will raise.

That is what I meant by
