When the lizard opened his eyes, the first thing he noticed was that he didn't know where he was. He felt tired. He could hear the sound of the waves and feel the sand under him. "What just happened...?", he thought. A fire was crackling near him. He tried to stand but couldn't, so he sat on the sand, letting the fire warm him.
- You finally woke up. Sleis to you - he heard an unfamiliar voice saying behind him. The lizard turned and saw a man sitting little far from him, away from the fire and engulfed by the shadows. The hand of the lizard reached for the grip of the Double Axe on his back. But there was no axe.
- Ssss!
- Looking for this? - asked the human showing the lizard's old axe. - Don't worry. I am no thief, you will have your weapon back. I just wanted to be sure that you wouldn't harm me when you were awake.
- I don't even know you. Why would I want to harm you, human...? - asked the lizard.
In response, the human pulled his cloak, showing a deep cut on his left arm, with a piece of cloth stanching the blood.
- Well, it can happens... - said the man. - And not only this - he stood up and pointed to pieces of broken wood near the shore. The lizard followed his finger. - That used to be my ship.
- ...
- Ah, don't worry about it. I didn't need it anymore, since I'm back - said the man. - But you scared me! I am on my way to my home land and suddenly the ship is attacked by a monster. Not a good welcome, uh?
- ...
- Sorry about the "monster". Erm... Well... So, what is it?
The lizard blinked vertically and stared at the ocean. Then suddenly another voice spoke, but whoever it was, it was nowhere to be seen.
- I have particular reasons to belive that this lizard is, literally, a berserker. His curse is also called Red Rage and Bloodlust. I would say to you that it is a good idea to give his weapon back and go mind your own business, but you never listen to my advice, am I wrong, Dominik?
The lizard's eyes moved slowly searching for this second person, but he found no one. The man laughed.
- Haha, you're never wrong, dagger - he said. - So, is it true, my lizard friend?
The lizard turned in the human direction and tried to stand again. Up on his big legs, he stared down to the man.
- I want my axxxe... - he said.
- Hmmm, seem to be. Here - so the man gave his axe back. - Well, as you heard the dagger saying, my name is Dominik. Dominik Windslasher. But since I called you a monster, you can call me anything you want. Though I like being called Domi.
The lizard gazed at the man, examining him and thinking.
- Dagger...?
- Yes, dagger - said Dominik. - I found it on my adventures, away from here. It can speak. I tried to get rid of it in the beggining, but it insists in following me. It seems to have all the knowledge of the world. It is a good company when it's not speaking too much.
- I thank you for the odd compliment, Dominik - said the second voice and now the lizard noticed it came from a dagger on the belt of the man. - It is a pleasure to meet you, sir lizardman. I never saw a berserker before and I must say it was... exciting.
The lizard nodded to the dagger not knowing well what he was doing. The man smiled.
- Aren't you going to tell us your name, my lizard friend? - asked Windslasher.
- ...
- No?
- Chak... - the lizard answered in a low voice.
The man bowed.
- A pleasure to meet you, Chak - Dominik bowed. - Well, as you heard the dagger saying, I still have some business to do. I wonder if he still keeps dreaming about adventuring on the world...
- He...? - Chak asked.
- My son Kamik. He lives in the city of Troll's Bane. And I still need to find a healer for my arm, heh.
- I sssee... I apologissse for thisss...
- Nevermind, it was a good fight - Dominik nodded. - I'm on my way then, Chak...
- My good byes, sir lizardman - said the dagger.
- We'll meet again. Take care and farwees, lizard! - and with a waving of his hand, he started to walk away, pulling his cloak around him.
- ...
Chak' Ysshirr stared at the man until he disappeared on the horizon, then he turned to the ocean. He noticed some new scratches on his armour and imagined it was done by that man. They probably fought while Chak was in rage. Chak didn't remember to see any other weapon with the man beside the talking-dagger and since he was using a Double Axe, he wondered how the man managed to make him pass away.
The night followed. Chak started to walk back to Vashikar thinking about the recent events and of how his rage was becoming stronger and happening more now. It was getting worser. The demon inside him was winning. But beside all this, there was only one word on his head.
"Monster..."
