hi,
what about having a server for english speaking people and a server for german speaking people ?
game experience would be better if you only met people you can understand, no ?
what people here think of this ?

my opinion is that its a bad idea... i dont speak german, but i find it very interesting if i cant understand some folks and some germans dont understand me... its fun

and i have learned some german this way already hihi =)
also i think that already a lot of poeple have made friends (english speaking people with german speaking people) so i dont think they want to be separated (i dont), probably there are a few ingame marriages too =)
And wouldn't that be some kind of discrimination?

Well, it's not discrimination.
The first time I connected, everybody around me was speaking german and I felt as if I was in the wrong place.
The point is not to separate the Germans and the English, but to have server dedicated to a certain language. There may be lot of people who would enjoy playing Illarion, but cannot because it is a world where people don't speak their natural language.
Note that at my second connection, I met more people I could talk to, and maybe my first impression was wrong.
Well, anyway, this is just an idea.

Since there are many people from different places, it would be bad. Then spanish, norwegian and maybe chinese people would ask for an own server. I really like it like it is. I've made a lot of friends and want to keep it like this.

It has a lot to do with what time of the day you come on, in my experience. Peak hours in one part of the world differ from peak hours in another, obviously.
Regardless, this isn't a good idea at all. I've made lots of wonderful german friends and acquaintances and I would hate to think I wouldn't have that opportunity in the future.
Fortunately, this is pretty unlikely. We're truly lucky that the creators run the server and the game at no cost to the players... do you have a spare server lying around to send them (along with a wad of cash for the cost of getting and keeping it running)?
I think the simple solution is this, if it bothers you so much: LEARN GERMAN.
Hehe...

I think that a server separation would be highly insulting to EVERYONE involved in Illarion.
It would be like apartheid, I'd lose out on meeting my German friends and so would everyone else....
However...
I do have an idea which may work maybe German players could start the game in the shop and English players could start the game in the library, this way we could identify who speaks what language and help them accordingly.
I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult for the GMs to do, what do they think?

What does starting out in a different position matter, if you can be out of there in less than 20 seconds ?

Keep everybody on the same server. Almost all towns have some multiculturality in them, Illarion just more then others. And yes, there are plenty of English speaking who are good friends with german speakling people. If you find yourself surrounded by german speaking people again, first ask them something, a lot of the german players speak english well anyways, and if they don't understand just walk around, they'll be somebody who knows english somewhere.

why should be seperated based on language? In real life you will have language differences, not to mention you already got different race in the game. If you want one for English and German, might as well make one for every country...
Plus, most people ive met can speak both, you do realize in European counties they learn more than one language is NORMAL CLASSES due to the fact they have so many different languages in Europe.

I don't like this idea either. I like hearing people talk in German, and try to figure out what they are saying. I have also learned a little GErman because of this. I like it just fine as it is.

I think that the game should be changed. Maybe only a special page should be added to the main illarion website, explaining to newbies that they just should walk around 1 minutes, ask folks and for sure someone will help them - hihi thats a shortcut, but you know what i mean, a special help-page to explain about the language matter

I think that it is fine the way it is, how everyone can interact with each other with no barriers.

@Teesh,
there is a tutorial.... but its similar to the manual ..
perhaps ,all not just general, rules should be added?
But then again, everytime you log in, it does say read the rules.....
for those who have no clue of the manual or the section of rules..... thats a hefty load to carry in the future.

Nice idea to see what people think, but I say its great as it is. I mean you get to meet people from new, colourful and intresting nations and cultures and kill them..haha and make new friends even learn the basics of new languages.
But the fact that people from diffrent languages are on one one server goes to make the realism and in game culture much more richer. I mean Elves, Dwarf etc all have their own languages and then depending on where they come from in their land they have accent and word diffrences from the norm. Even when the actual in-game race languages are implimented its still gona flavour to the game by having multi languaes present.

I (the one controlling Leonna) am living in about the same meridian than german people do (still not being a german, I am english only speaking even though I understand a few german sentences), and usually at night there's majority of english speakers and at day there's much more german speaking people... you should socialize more with those who are able to socialize with you and let those who are speaking weird languages socialize with each other.
At least almost all the german speakers can speak a little bit of english so english-only speakers can buy their goods, or tell them that "20xxx is a playerkiller" etc.
No need to separate them... english and german speaking players together is fine... if they were separated there wouldn't be many online on the same server with you at the moment!
