A question on RPing

My question to GM's and such. I have heard from many that a char wipe is coming. I am not asking when or why there will be a char wipe, just what we should RP it in game. Rand is somewhat of a strong char, he is almost a great Carpenter and he occasionnally hunts down orcs who piss him off. after a char wipe if he is to still be around is he to still be a great warrior? a carpenter? an orc hunter? he cannot do this anymore so for a short while he will have no skills at all to back this up. I wonder what you wish -US- as the players to do when this happens. Do we just act like Newbies? This would be most irritating and unfun. I think Rand would rather die than lose his skills.

I think a char wipe will come someday... but I play if it doesn't.

It shouldn't make a difference in RP whether it comes or not.

Personally I think that it will be nice when it does. I will be able to make another character or two, and maybe even enhance my RP a bit...

But regardless, Do not rely too much on rumours.

I think it will be rather..."lovely". People will truly specialise, because it is hard to raise skills now. We will have more interaction between players.

People will fear orcs, and other scum again, because everyone will be around equally strong, atleast for the first two months. I, for one, am looking forward to it.
And as Nilo said, do not rely too much on rumors. You might get your hopes up (or down, in your case)

I do not personnally like it but I do see the wisdom in it. This post is not really to put it down, just to ask what we are to do.

This is one of the most bewildering questions, nonetheless a very good one. Everyone who has ever built a building in illarion will have no skill. This is a big problem, and the only way to solve it is by starting new characters as far as I can see. This stinks because the characters who helped build these things will not be there to use them. :? Its weird, very weird.

Will illarion history start all over again with the wipe?

Most probably: No. But everyone will have the chance to start over new.

Im wonder about the account system, the GM's will be swamped, and Im afraid some older characters might not "pass the test"

there alot of goods and bads in both. one alot of hard work will be lost for those of us with characters we really like. but also i'm pretty sure we all have characters we accidently messed up due to not exactly know how stats operate within the game. and alot of ways we could have played characters that we never got the chance. So yes goods and bads with Character wipes but what can ya do.

I have to say, this is one of the most developed test stages I have ever seen.
What has it been? Five years in testing? Is a character whipe really necessary? When exactly is it actually "finished" is my question.

:?

It will only happen if it is necessary. But when it happens, there is no other option. We had charwipes before (LONG ago) because there was no way to avoid them.

The benefits of the new stuff that will require a charwipe will be beyond any objections against it.

The new stuff will enable lots of new things, but it just gives the possibility, not includes the new things itself. Like, you buy a toolbox and you can now drill holes and fasten screws. But your bed from IKEA you still have to assembel, it is not in the toolbox. So, even if the new stuff is there, Illarion is not completed.

I assume Illarion will ever stay alpha since switching to beta or final would mean that all development ends. And such games like Illarion get much of their attraction from changes.

My only problem with the char wipe would be if illarion history just continued from where it left off. There would be a large awkward gap there. Many characters are obviously based on some of the skills they posses. ie: gaurds have hight fighting skills, and those who are known for there blacksmith skills and so many others. It would be odd to rp that one day they woke up and were a totally different person. I hope what i am saying makes sense. You see my concern?

Yes.. athian won't be able to kill me for a while, though we currently kill each other on site... haha its so fun

ANYWAY I think it will be rather nice. I will dearly miss my blacksmithing skills, as it took a LONG time to get it.... And I suppose ill miss all my money.

( haha just think of Galim! He has so much money...)

Anyway it won't happen unless it HAS to...

Trying to play the same character would be weird. I would just make another chracter. I guess you could say it was a "fast forward" thing. You could play your characters son who survived and came looking for his father or something who friggen knows.

Haha true... but I like all of my characters names.

Yes well there are some ways that it won't be too bad actually. Good fighters will be solely fighting things, smiths will be smithing, and I will be working on carpentry so that I can make the staves needed to relearn my magic that took me forever to get  . Within a month everyone will at least be specialized in their main craft, and the normal rping can continue.

Erm...

Well it will take quite a long while for people to learn ... a certain rune... as it takes a ... certain item... that takes a long while to make.

Yes I am aware, that one rune uses an item that takes a grandmaster....thing to make. Actually though, if they make the magic system how it says on the main website, this won't be necassary. Of course, i geuss....Ules...could......get a teacher (Im sure if they dont do quest based runes some gms will make themselves mages and teach people) *shudders*

I am pretty sure you can already have a teacher. Alot of the site information hasn't been updated for some years. I don't know about having a teacher for druidry though.

Just rp your same character...skill isnt everything. Remember everyone else will be just as unskilled as you. The char wipe is great as it erases some of the older characters advantage like super strong druids...with little intel.

Yes, I am going to rp that Ules was seen by the gods as a future threat, based on skil lgrowth and magic ability inheritance (from his parents), so they weakened(will weaken really ) him :)

by Hermie
I wouldnt make Hermie again, but probably a similar character, like his Brother. And if anyone took the name Hermie and tried to BE Hermie, I would kill them .. ooc of course

Gnagnagna..come get me. I live in the Netherlands. *smokes some more pot*

Interesting offtopic note, even though weed is sort of legal here, we are usually the ones that least use it(compared to other countries).
