Hi I was wondering if someone could help me, I think I have looked at all the posts that could help but they didn't.
I have Windows XP and downloaded the client today but when I run it and press make new character it comes up with the message WSAETIMEDOUT then maybe the server is not online or you have no internet connection, then can't connect, then it comes up with the make new character box but I cannot do anything in it. I have a router, a RTA300 adsl one, but I don't have a firewall that I know of.
I know the server is up because people are coming and going.
Please help me I want to play I love RPGs

You seemed to have read things.
But I think with your problem, the most suggestions were to create the account on a different computer. And then continue with the rest.

I tried it on the only other computer I had access to, but it has the same problem. I'm starting to think it is something to do with my router? Because when it was installed various other things (internet related) stopped working too.

Your other computer was of the same router I'm assuming.
I would imagine then. Same internet, I think it would have something to do with it.
Perhaps if you switched your router off to direct connect to the modem, just to create a character. Although, I'm only guessing. And I don't know the exact lingo for it. Sorry.

It's ok I think I'll just have to get a new router

Maybe your router has an internal firewall?
I am using a router as well, but I have no problems connecting to the server.
Your problem sounds like you never have connection to the server at all.

i doubt you need a new router...
but you should check if there are any firewalls blocking your access to illarion.org port 3008
f.e. the router might have a built-in firewall, your windows has a firewall...
i don't know any router which would cause real problems with illarion.. as you only establish an outgoing connection from your pc to the server.
also you might have something like nortons internet firewall or other services who could block outgoing connections from the illarion.exe?

If you use WinXP Service Pack 2 then check your built in Windows firewall. Or deactivate it at all if your router has a built in firewall too. Upon installation of SP2 it closes all ports for "security reasons".
