Name of the Island. - To all citizien of TB, SB and GB

Gwynnether comes to the shop and pins a parchment on the board:

Dear citizien of Troll’s Bane, Silverbrand and Greensbriar!

Yesterday was the first time I had realized that our Island has no name. Well… some call it lovingly the “Island of the damned”, but I guess that isn´t a name which should be drawn in a map.

In the chronicles is written that the new settlers come to this island with the hope they could flew from chaos and the insurrections of all countries.

So may “Hope” should be the basis for this name…

My proposals are:

Gobaith (hope)

Oilán (hope)
Inis dóchas (island of hope)

tol en harthad or just Harthad (island of hope / hope )
tol en estel (island of hope)

I hope to hear more proposals from your side and that we come to a good agreement.

Yours faithfully

((the last two proposals are “Sindarin” btw.))

This Island should be called Aandar.

It means "mystery".

Ich weiss zwar nicht warum, aber mir gefällt der name
Insel Larión, Isle Larión in der neuen Sprache, ausserordentlich gut. Ich würde dafür stimmen.

((Translation of Fedaykin's statement:
I don't know why, but I like the name "Insel Larión", Isle Larión in the new language very much. I would vote for it.))

Greetings Fedaykin,

I first recognized this language when a hiker was on our island. I like it and tried to create a name which is in this language. Would you keep "Île Larión" as it is or would you prefer "Isulo Larión" or "Isle Larión"? I think I didn't understand you right.

Yours,

.-'-.-'-.-'-.-'-.-'-.-'-.-'-.-'-.-'-.-'-.-'-.-'

Dis place should not be any "hope" anyting. It has injustice and hate and dat is all.

I second the orc's statement.
Go ahead and name it "hope", laugh in the face of the miserable.
You'll reap what you sow.

Greetings, citizens of our Isle.

I made a proposal that seems to be a good idea. I vote for "(Île) Larión"

Yours,

Rackere grins. He doesn't know if it is allowed to vote for one's own idea, but he did. He posted the piece of paper onto the board and goes away to sit next to a camp fire.

If you do not wish to call it hope, choose my names. They mean something...similar to injustice and despair

Nilo, passing through, reads the post and sighs.

Must the island have a name? this is so trivial of a thing; why not spend your time and energy on something more useful? We don't need to have a name for our island, as far as I'm concerned.

Île Larión ... It is a fair name, though I have quite some trouble pronouncing it... It takes too long to say it... Maybe we could make it a little more.. pronounceable? That might help some people, including me.

"Île Larión" is not difficult to pronounce, better than most of the other proposals here...

I believe a name for an island we live on is very important Nilo.

Although personally, we have seperate factions of people on this island. I doubt we can simply name the island at the moment with so much hate.

Chuckles as he reads Nilo's post

Dear Nilo,

I believe it would not matter wether you can pronounce the name or not. The name will be forgotten by most of you anyway, because you find it "such a trivial of thing". But we, the elves that is, would like a name that could be tought of by one of our own, showing great languagal capability. Therefore I also vote for Île Larión, and not some downgraded version of the word. If it will be called something that is derived from this word and made "more pronouncable", then I will never say the word, or I will say it to swear, because this would harm the reputation and grace of the island. I must admit my own names were just to mock, because I really wouldn't think this would become serious. Well, my hopes are raised for that single name.

Sincerely,

~Misjbar~

Why does the name need a meaning, and why should the name be in Elvish? It seems the Elves are imposing more on us of late, especially with the attitudes of the likes of Misbjar. Let us not forget there are more than just Elves here, we don't want to label this island as an Elvish colony.

"Île Larión" isn't elvish, it "other-languaged"

I like it and as I see, many also do so...
And I don't think that he wants a special elvish name, he simply likes it...

I believe that there are people around here, on the island, that can prove Klith's wrong. I have changed, and there are people who can testify on this. And lets make sure that this is understood. Île Larión is a beautifull name, even though it is not elvish. I would like this name to be choosen, just because of his beauty, and because it shows that this island, the inhabitants of it, are capable of producing beautifull languages, and speaking them fluently (Watch this Nilo, train your halfling tongue). I would be more proud of this island, when this name would be chosen. So, do not degrade me immediately to a person that is incapable of thinking about nothing but himself, for I am not.

Sincerely,

~Misjbar~

Commenting on my earlier post; then perhaps I may be misjudging you, Misjbar. Perhaps you would accept my invitation to meet me over a few glasses of wine, so we may shed ourselves of presumptions?
