I just want to bring the currently ongoing venus transition to your attention. I know that this is the wrong forum, but probably more people are reading here than on the other boards.

You can observe the venus passing the sun NOW (for the next 4-5 hours). DONT look at the sun directly! DONT look at the sun using lenses (such as in telescopes etc.). If you do not know how to observe the sun, search the internet.

This is a very rare occurrence, it happened last time in 1882. If you have the chance to, observe it.

From your subject title, it sounds more like you are saying the game is offline because you are going forward with some kind of top-secret server project that will make all the graphics much more beautiful, and hence called the "venus" transition.

Since the sun doesn't come up for a while on my side of the world, I guess I won't get to see this event.

Heh, sounds like an order to me! I saw it earlier when I woke up at about 12 (well, Kensai phoned me which woke me up) I managed to watch the end of it. I can't really say it was too interesting, maybe if people did stare at the sun it would be more amusing. Strange though, when I was a kid I could stare at the sun and it hasn't ever really effected me. I guess if I tried now I'd go blind or something. I still wouldn't recomend it though.

So yes, next one comes in about a hundred and thirty years?

It wasn't soooooooooo cool. When you didn't have a telescope you have could only see a small dark dot.

The "coolness" is not the appearance of it.
The "coolness" is that this happens once every hundred and some years (viewable from one part of this planet).
The next time it can be seen in germany for example, is in about 130 (or was that about 170 ?) years.

I love Astronomy phenomenons: When the wheater was to bad to watch the sun darkness for some years I was realy sad about this.

As it only happens once every 3,4 maybe 5 or so generations, I'd say it was quite interesting. It wasn't particularly spectacular like a lunar eclipse as Venus is too far away to shadow the Sun from the Earth.

I have a telescope, it's a small one and nothing special but I had it all set up ready. I'd been looking forward to seeing the crossing for a while. Oh well, I'll catch it next time

Actually, it next happens in 2012. That's when we Americanskis will be able to see it.

From where I live, ( Lebanon - Middle East ) was the most precise spot to observe it. Venus was for 2-3hours at the exact center of the sun. So we saw the sun, and right in the middle of it, a little point, Venus. It was extraordinary. There was special glasses to observe it though.

it will next happen in 2008. If you listen well to the news, the N.A.S.A said on CNN (Continuous Network News), an astrologist of the N.A.S.A said that it will next occur in 2012, then 2112... So, in 8 years you'll be able to see it again!

If you had listened more closely, you might have found that the event 2008 will NOT be viewable from europe. Since it will be night here, then.

Funny...I never saw Venus...Perhaps my 2,098,320 Thermo-nuclear missiles I fired at it the other day finally reached their target....although....ffrom what all my mad scientists told me...It would take a very long time. ~~thinks~~ Oh well
