Halflings, need input please :)

I soon hope to have my account activated, but first...

When I created my account I had made a halfling character, I messed up cause I wanted a elf. I do not know much about halflings, there behaviour or anything much really. I wished the GM's would change me in an elf like I was suposed to be but. allez, It was refused and I can understand this at some point. I now am looking more into halfling characters,

Who are they? What are they? Where are they? I like to see small character discriptions of halflings in general to be able to create a background for my character on what I can base a roleplay. I now have no clue how to roleplay my character since I do not know anything at all about halflings So please help me out with helpfull hints about halflings, character discriptions, drawings, they all would help me a lot :)

Kind regards, Eladine Rosas

edit: for those others who are interested in roleplaying other characters then they are used to do, http://tmoa.org/help/TMOA/index.htm <-- its nice and helpfull, just didnt had enough information for me :)

edit 2: found another great link I even believe this is made by players from illarion :) right ? http://eghalflings.port5.com/race.shtml

There is a discription of (Illarion-) Halflings on our Homepage, or if you need a more detailed one please take a look at:

www.moonsilver.de

You'll find surely some useful hints there.

okay am still NOT happy not being an elf But I am looking at my possibilities to make something from my char and I am kindof stuck cause like i said before i counted on being an elf sortof

now is it possible i could be an offspring from an elf woman and a halfling man? or is that just not done? I'd be half elf half halfling wich I could live with with the looks of a halfling, how does that sound?

You could always request another character and make that character and Elf and simply have two characters. Most here have more than one character.

other character?

I understand that but thus far I am still waiting my account activation and have not even started yet, so I rather keep it to one char to start with. In time I can always make another char from another race.
So my question still stands:

Is it possible i could be an offspring from an elf woman and a halfling man? or is that just not done? I'd be half elf half halfling wich I could live with with the looks of a halfling, how does that sound?

Keikan that site has been very helpfull, thank you, so kind :)

As far as I am aware of the official statement, its said that we do not encourage players to make thier characters "half breeds".
Since these tend to have different abilities from thier parent-races, which are not supported by the system.

Thats why, I think you should stick to the options you can choose when creating the character.

If you are still unsatisfied with having a halfling character, use him/her to get a bit familiar with the game, controls and such things and than request another character, as Arkadia suggested.

and how excactly do i roleplay that?

not to be a pain in the butt but isnt that the reason we all here?
As a new player I will be looked at differently by the game masters likely powergaming is not alowed, ooc got some heavy rules as well. :( starting out with something i dont want to play in game sound contradicting to me to start the game with.

also how much different are the things for an elf as for a halfling? do they have different options?

I am confused by the strict rules that seem to be forced upon the freedom of creative minds here when it comes to the roleplaying.

Play a courious travler who just arrived in an unfamiliar town. ;)

Since you start in the library of this town, I suggest you read first.

To the rules:
Some say they are strict, some say they are not strict enought.
They are here to proctect these "creative minds".
Since creative roleplay is not based on powergaming, random-pks or ooc-insults.
Dont you agree?

oh but my roleplaying a offspring from a elf and a halfling would not have anything to do with powergaming random-pking or ooc insults. However I do aggree that the roleplay to a certain extend has to be "protected" but i do not see how this protects the creative minds.
As far as I am aware of the official statement, its said that we do not encourage players to make thier characters "half breeds".

this came to mind just now, how could this half breed have different abilities when they are not supported by the system? This half breed would ofcourse have to live with the disabilities being a half breed, brings with it.

I am still playing with this idea to be a half breed even when it is not encouraged. I be waiting for more responses, and time will have to be my teacher for now.

Elves have bonuses and penalties in our system.
Halflings have bonuses and penalties in our system.
May they be visual to the player, for example when distributing your status points, or invisisble hidden in deep server mathematics.

Half-Elf/Half-Halflings are nowhere mentioned in our system or our documentation.
And as you said, they have different abilities and disabilties resulting from the mixture of thier parents.

(However I do not belive a Elf will fall in love with a Halfling.)

I dont think you can invent something new and make it general for each player before and after you.
Is he/she magical adept as thier elf part, or generaly incapable like a halfling?
Whats his/her size and weight?
How is the logical and spiritual part shaped, like elf or halfling?

And at least, each time a character enters your vision field you have to tell him that you are a halfbreed since this character would be able to 'see' it when he looks at you.

Face it.
Our systems says (and shows) you are a halfling, so you are a halfling.

There is only one backdoor:
Your character can claim to be a half elf, but this would be only a lie that maybe just he/she knows of.

than so be it... My character will be this halfbreed and whether it is to be believed or not, my mother was a elf and my father a half ling so now i have a half ling body and elfen blood running thru my veins

I do not wish to have these system penalties and bonusses.. I wished to play a elf for my roleplay not for the system bonusses and penalties :)

that would be fair enough no?

also I did NOT distribute my points when i created my half ling simply cause i asumed i could do this later on. I was wrong and I will have to live with this now so be it :(
(yes i royaly screwed up creating my char)

I requested my account for the roleplay so from the point of view it should be fair enough to be a halfbreed. wheter you believe or not that a elf could fall in love with a half ling. stranger things have happened :)
and if not they may :)

and cause it is not documented does not have to mean they can not exist thoughts and mind of a character do not have much to do with the game system i like to think.

aye call me stubborn and strange ... so be it my game abilities will be those of a halfling since i have received a body after my father will it be mine is in female form. and my mind is this from a elf :)

if this char is unplayable due to my messing up then i might still considder creating a new char but this time not to mess up and make my elf :) fair enough?

that raises another question, will i be able to delete eladine rosas and recreate her as being an elf? perhaps it is wise to create the second char right away since the waiting time is not small and my patience not big :)

Sounds strange, but could become really funny.

I'm looking forward to see your Char ingame!

If you didn't distribute any points at all you should just have this char deleted, and make a new one, you character will not be able to do anything, it can't learn magic, it will barley be able to lift anything, it can't become a druid because it can't find the herbs.

I have not even seen the game yet and after waiting like a month am not going to delete anything yet :(

anno i could use some help from a GM but they are VERY strict so it seems :( so how do I request a new char ?? do i have to wait this long again?? and do i have to write another story and answer the questions again?

thank you timothius.

I have played other rpg's and I have played other half breeds before even half breeds from races that where non existant in the game :)

my main char where to be an elf sweet, kind, charming, filled with joy and humor but not without magic and melee skills. she was a battle mage and had mastered polearms and blunts, and several magic skills (read as in maxed these skills) aye this as well may sound strange for an elf. she grew strong and formed a guild she lead with rules that had to be followed strictly. she was indeed very strict but fair and honest to the bone.
(With this char I have played mostly and her character story is bigger then the other characters stories)

her mother however was once kidnapped by a vampire and he had raped her and she died at the birth of her second daughter :) this was my evil dark elf character :) she was in a evil guild to serve what she believed in was right
(I loved roleplaying this char and she was successful as she did not stood alone)

there was a third "sister" she was the half sister of the half breed that had sprung from elf/vampire she was full vampire. This character i had started as a fark elf for there where no vampires in game. This char was down to the depth of her heart evil. she needed no reason to be evil she was blood thirsty and mean. And killed whoever she came accross (not very succesfull cause she was not a strong char but it was fun to roleplay :)

You understood me wrong.
As I said, your character will be 100% halfling, but he/she can tell otherwise. Its just not the truth.
Like your halfling might have been an orphant (no her perents where not killed by orcs) and once saw a noble elf. From this day on she dreamed that her father was once such a noble one, but they got seperated and now longs for his eternal life to find her back.
(Romantic, isnt it?)

Sidenote:
There are no vampires playable for players in Illarion.
There are no half-demons playable for players, too powerful.
Dont try to play one, they end up banned or imprisoned, whatever is better at this moment.
Dont see this as warning or treat, just want to tell you.

Personal sidenote:
I hate it when somebody talks about "maxed skills", makes me wanna check him regulary for powergaming.

To get another character:
At the point you are able to log in the game and play it, you are allowed to request additional characters for your account.
You create them simply with your client like you did it with your first.
(doubble check your settings)
Than you proceed to the account request webpage on our homepage, there is a little check box "add this character ...".
Check it.
Make sure you use the same eMail like you did for your first character, otherwise you will not get this character.
We will recive a note that you want to have another character, we will now check if you have an active and playable character.
It thats so, we will accept this additional character.
After some days you will be able to use this character, but we will not send you a message, just try it from time to time.

well none of the rp stories are the truth because none of them where born they are simply pixels :) if we are going to be accurate :)

I think there is some form of miscomunication here because I created a half vampire half elf doesnt mean the bonusses or penalties given where diff... it didnt made my char stronger or weaker or more powerfull.. it was all in the roleplay (they where even my weakest chars) there where no such chars in that game and was thus a complete lie as you stated it :)
and no am not planning on doing that now am just trying to feel comfortable with my "missformed elf" LOL
Personal sidenote:
I hate it when somebody talks about "maxed skills", makes me wanna check him regulary for powergaming.
let me state that I have played on that game server for like 1 and a half year. the cap to "max" the skill isnt really that high. feel free to check on me for powergaming tho :) i like company :) however do tell me.. what if there is no other character online but me.. what Am i supose to do? talk to the pigs and the trees and myself? or am i free to train my skills and grow further in the roll I am playing?

thank you very much for the further explanation on how to make a new char I guess i likely will do that as soon as I am able to log in with this one :)

Darling...The problem with vampires and werewolves and such is not just the technical side. If you could claim to be anything, practically no one would be the normal races. Everyone would want to be different and cool. That would get aggrevating to every other player. A couple of my players only go out during the day....a couple others only at night....I really would dislike having one of my day characters running into a mob of "vampires" as it would be rediculous.
Stick to a normal race...play the game for a while...get the feel of it, and if you are deemed worthy of it (based on your rp ability) you may ask the gm's if it is alright to rp perhaps a half vampire.

and no am not planning on doing that now am just trying to feel comfortable with my "missformed elf" LOL
that was a part about a character i had in another game...

this was merely in reply to timothius cause he thoguht it was interesting that i be a half breed. so i mainly spoke about that just to tell that I have played half breed's before.

I got no clue by the way whats the big deal is with what kind of character you roleplay as long as it fits in the timeera and the environment is whats important id like to think. who picks the role I play and who writes the script?

but again I do not want to be a vampire neither did i wish to be a half breed i just wanted to be an elf and not a half ling..

now if the technical side is not the problem then why was the bonuss / penalty thing being brought up in the first place?

anyways we are running off topic i dont wanna be anythingelse but a elf really ;-p

I don't personally think an elf and a halfling could mate; even if they could, I don't personally think they should. I mean, halflings look like human children with hairy feet. There's definately something wrong about that!

We could always try, though. I'll grab Brendan. Arkadia, you know what to do!

I'm only gone for two weeks and your mating off my character. For shame. When you've played for a bit longer, you can request assistance or permission to play a different type of character.

They won't always give you permission (rarely in fact), but when you are given the opportunity it is quite fun and worthwhile.

The absent Brendan.

As the original question was answered and considering the amount of hormons drifting around in this thread, I feel myself constrained to close it.

I hope that, who ever is desperatly in need, may find a suitable marriage broker in game.
