Uhmm...
This is my first idea for improving this game, but how about adding prosent sign after the skill like "minining 99.9%" or "parry 0.3 %"? That would be great so you would know how much you'd have to the full 100% of skill.

Getting my point?

got your point *g*
but it's the will of the gods that you don't know how much of 100% you have.
you don't know that in rl, too, do you?

think about it

I am not meaning it 'Rp' way now. Bror wrote in some posts that people say that the have MAXED stats but none has got any skill maxed, so it would end things like these and make things more clear , example: Doe John:well hello John Doe how high is ur goldsmithing skill?
John Doe: umm.. its somewhere between goldSMithing´.

got my point now?

"do u talk to ur friends like:

No, but people do say things like:
"I type 55 words per minute"
or
"This IQ test says my IQ is 120"
or
other things like that...

My suggestion: make "tests" (possibly a useable item, you buy a "test" for the appropriate skill, and when used it tells you a word-rating), have them cost Xgold per test, and they will tell you if (for example) your fishing skill is "Amazing" or "Poor". It would make it easier for people to go around saying they have Good Skill at slashing weapons, instead of saying "My skill reaches between the O and N"

I think selling test will be a great business
#me wants to be a test vendor

No! That's not the best way. Maybe it will be possible in the future to replace the skill lines with words like Bad, Average, Good and Very Good. Makes it more realistic, doesn't it?

I think there must be like weapon master or magic master etc. who will give u a test and tell u how  high is ur skill :-)

Well, everyone can guess, that a skill bar of 10 % is poor and 90% would be amazing - why buy a test for it to tell you obvious things?

About the IQ and words per minute example:
Both are things, that can be evaluated by a given set of rules. Tests in Illarion would be: "I succeed every three times in smithing a fire sword", "I can kill a mummy with bare hands in 3 seconds".
I don't see the need for any tests / in game statistics

you shouldnt have like "Bad" "good"
but maybe like a inner voice that say... "man i suck at this" or "YEA im good"
or something like that , when you hover your mouse over the skill... it would take less space

I found this inner voice:
when a mummy walks by and kills you for fun, you suck a little bit in fighting skills *g*
