We don't recognize your use of the English language. Spell check is cool and so is schooling.

<_<

We're not making fun of Texans, now are we? Rawr. *Evil look*

State, not country. ;)

And believe it or not, I agree with the above. Doesn't really matter how it's spelled, it all means the same in the end.. Usually. :P

Personally I don't see why people are so picky about spelling ig or on the forums. Using a spelling mistake to make fun of someone or get a one up on them is really bad form and a rather jackass move.

It is one thing if you politely let them know they are spelling the same word wrong over and over (expecially if it isn't their native language). It is another to mock and make fun of people. Come on people, it is just a game. There is no point in making a big deal over small things.

Spelling is a big deal to me. Just consider me petty.

But to stay on topic, I thought this topic ended forever ago.

Its simple. We invented the language, therefore our opinion of how things should be spelt should come first. Sorry guys. :)

I just find it UNBELIEVABLY distracting to play a game by all accounts based on european society which is full of americanisms. English English plz.

again there is no England or English in Illarion, the new language should be able to be spoken however one wishes

Illarion is a German game. Which language is closely related to German? Swedish (among others). Since I'm a Swede, that means that I get to decide which sort of spelling is better. I chose... Well, I have to say, isn't it an honor to be able to chose? The color of may face is not ash-gray, heh, I'm alive. Also, in my defense, I just wanted to... Anyway. So, the winner is...

Ah, I let you guys figure it out yourselves.

Anyway, the point is, both spellings should be accepted. Armor, armour, color, colour, defense, defence, all works, don't they?

Its pretty simple.

After all what is importaint is that the things that are written are understandable.
So if one does a few misstakes in spelling/grammatics and its still clear what he intended to say, it can be ignored. Purposed misstakes in the game are visible I guess since they are used then on a more regular base.

Mocking one for a few misstakes is nothing but crap. Telling one about the misstake with the intension to help to improve his english is fine. But anything else doesn't help the atmosphere in the game even slightly.

So just relax on this language problem. There are many many players who do not speak english natively.

Yeah.. I can name a lot of people who like Germans... cough.

The only compliment I've ever heard to Germans or Germany is "German is the best language for metal because it sounds so disgusting" from one of my best friends.

People hate Germany nearly as much as they hate France.

@Alex: Thank you so much, now I as a German feel so much better than before...

I would also prefer the English spelling of words, and I usually use it as often as possible. BUT: You can't force anyone to spell anything different. And I don't care how others spell things. If they like to write "color" instead of "colour", it is their chose. It does not spoil my fun, but telling them that they HAVE TO write it different or mocking on someones bad english because he/she is no native speaker, perhaps spoils their fun. And this GAME is about FUN.
So leave it.

Hey! ...
Comparing us with France, pfft.

Sorry for being off topic but it just fits so well...

2 years ago in London. I'm sitting on the bus on my way to work, listening to my MP3player and some elder guy sits down next to me. After some minutes he asks me what I am listening to and after I explained he asked me where I am from and since people keep asking for kangaroos when I say "Austria", I simply said I was from Germany. And the next thing the guy said to me in a bit of a less friendly tone was: "And is everything calm in Germany?" I was looking back puzzled and asked him what exactly he meant with that. And he said: "Well, you don't want to lose another war, do you?"
... then I just put my earphones back into my ears and ignored him. *g*

You should say "Austria" then say "Yeah, Austria not AUSTRALIA YOU RETARDED WOMBAT".

Works every time.

Not that I'd know, but I assume it works every time.

Thats the whole point

Its not because it sounds disgusting, but because you can use appropriate vocal styles and still sing something with some "sense".

<spam>

I was in Margate some years ago, that is in the south half of England.
People were always very friendly. Despite the youth. When parts of my group were stupid enough to talk German, they were molested and called "Nazis", someone threw raw eggs on them.

After that, we told everyone we were from Russia. THEY BELIEVED US!

How ignorant do you have to be, and how intolerant??????
And, to tell you something, I still like England... But this Germany-hatred of some is a really big problem. Especially as they do not know anything about us that happened after 1945. Some told me in England that they are proud of their democracy and that we should feel ashamed for still having a dictator.
FOR HEAVENS SAKE, we ARE a democracy!!! and WE don't have a queen... whilst others...

Hey everyone!

I have an idea!

Let's not think so small. American/English is pretty much the same when you consider the world at Large. I'm surprised some haven't been added already.

In fact, if Illarion continues on, I can foresee several languages being added over the years until.......

Our Mainpage looks like this:

Image

Considering this, do we really want to keep arguing about a few small words? :D

PS - 5 Silvers to the first one to name all the languages shown!

Alex, I didn't use that flag. It is the one on the website. Go take a look.

Personally, it doesn't matter which is used American or British.

Both are "Internationally" recognized as the "English Language". Isn't that the point of this thread?
