Butterfly wings are delicate.
Since flying happens due to trapped air under the wing causing an upthrust, a big butterfly wing would tear with the upthrust.

@Rhianna : if you play it good, that's awesome. But there are enough players around who don't, so we still need common definitions and people to work with those, else everyone can do what they like (even warriorblacksmithfairies, of which, sadly, we had several).
Rules are there to push people to play along nicely, because some won't do that by themselves, not even when you ask them to.
If the staff allows well-playing people to forget about some of the rules, which what right can they tell bad-playing people NOT to forget about the same rules ?
See.

Damien, juts let players play fairies littel when the wish to do so.
I mean it is not bad RP to play a littel fairy, you know that.
But if you see a fairy played in a stupid, bad way talk to the player or even ban the fairy because of bad bad rp.
Do you agree with me?

A couple of random responses ...
* Thanks Harok!!
* I'd be willing to be bitten by a vampire ig.
* I carry a couple of coins, 2 or 3 at most, but I sometimes RP finding them in random places before using them. *shrugs* I like the tiny fairy limitations. That's what makes it fun. She's no crafter or fighter. She was randomly attacked once - one hit - and lost most of her red bar, then most of her yellow bar as she healed. I think that's pretty appropriate.
I guess I'll keep playing her the way I do until someone officially tells me to stop. Then I'll have a free character slot.

Hmm i don't know...
Shall we just say fairy magic is in such a way that they can change there size within a certain limit.
Some fairies like to be small other fairies like to be bigger, or bigger when they need to.
Fairies are the most magcially inclined race (mythically speaking), so why not allow them that much. it's not even as if such an magical rp will effect anyones day, or be abuseable etc.
any everyone can dynamically rp there had to write and essay for character

I like Athian's idea.
I actually thought illarion fae could change their size a bit (I think I ran into a faerie that got bigger to talk to me "face to face" at some point... I was a newblet... I'd have believed it if the little thing had started breathing fire and cursing me to the depths... but ne...).
I don't think there would be much of an issue about that if it was a little "inborn" illusionary magic, and that would also help explain bigger fae hiding in near plain sight (which I've played along with... little peeping toms...).
But yea, I think that's a good idea.

Fairies having some illusionary magic would add more realism. In mythology and other instances, fairies are capable of using glamours that can be used to trick and deceive. And glamours are illusions.

Sorry, but having fairies change their size is not something I think of as a good idea.
It is difficult to explain, but... think of a tiny fairy flying around. No one would be able to put her in a cage, and why is this? Because she would grow bigger at will and then be able to defeat him or to destroy the cage or whatever...
And it is so illogical. Why should a fairy then change her size? what for?
Just imagine rping with such a fairy. She will randomly change her size. That would affect all that you are doing. And such a fairy would have too many advantages, I think, this would be abused.
Another idea: Why don't we rp that there are two types of fairies, for example forest-fairies and field-fairies (Wald- und Wiesenfeen, gibt es hierfür Namen im Englischen?). The forest-fairies live directly in the forest, and therefore are bigger and stronger. The fieldfairies are the tiny, sweet ones that live in fields or something in the middle of a forest.
Everyone can choose what kind to play. (Does not have to be this explanation, just imagine there are two kinds of fairies, big ones and tiny ones...)
That would be more logical in my eyes. There are different human folks as well: Compare people from Albar with Norodaj, for example, and with Gynkeese....

It seems to me RP wise it could be up to the PO this being an RP game. IMO if we can RP children using the "adult" graphic, male and female lizards, also male and female fairies even though no specific graphic for either, RPing the size of a fairy is not against the realms of possibility. Just because someone would have a char that may weigh 250 lbs on the chart shouldn't mean they have to RP that char as that, the same with some with 6-8 IQ. I always read the description of a char, that should be enough...and my fairy WAS small enough to sit on a shoulder, she also flew even though there is no graphic for it.

What are you talking about? i said within an exceptable range. i.e the range thats already within the standard of the current fairy archtype. If you read more carefully i said nothing bout fairies growing human sized or anything like that, nor did i even imply that.
As to effecting your rp, i don't see much how, is we're talking about the already preconcieved size of fairies as the maximum size they would appear at then it's safe to say the only thing that being allowed it let people play 'small' fairies not the other way around.

Yes. One managed to make my psychedelic wallpaper on my PC do tricks. Another made my monitor black out a few times.
Then again, one also plays the drums and makes her own fairy clothing, so what the f*** is you point.
By the way I also have pictures from a pagan forum that have photographs of a sylph and a dryad. But they're kind of messed up or blurry.

I think your fairy might be a virus or a faulty monitor, Dei.

Nah. I ran my virus scanner just yesterday, and not a single virus. Also, this monitor isn't broken. Also, I'd upload the images of what are a sylph and a dryad, but the images are copyrighted by some witch that hates me.

If we want to get technical, the faeries in Illarion can only be from ten inches to about two feet in height (because the little scale-selector-character-creation-thingy says so! Ha! ^_^ Methinks someone said this already but ne). But that's if one only wishes to limit oneself to technicalities... ^_^
Another note:
It is difficult to explain, but... think of a tiny fairy flying around. No one would be able to put her in a cage, and why is this? Because she would grow bigger at will and then be able to defeat him or to destroy the cage or whatever...

A) If one assumes that a magical creature can be kept in a non-magical cage, usually one is wrong, as in burnt crispy wrong.
A.ps) Anyone putting faeries in a cage has more problems on their hands than the faerie growing bigger & pushing their way out... like putting the faerie in the cage... ^_~ jk
B) WHAT ABOUT FAERIES IS LOGICAL??????
C) Assuming any player (or character) "will" do anything is a
little bit... presumptuous on the part of another player.
D) Anyone "randomly" changing their size is probably (player or character... or both) not yet out of matural puberty. In case of the former... well, perhaps they'll grow out of it ... in case of the latter.... well... maybe they'll live to grow out of it. ^_~
E) For goodness sake, advantages?? Faeries have a Con limit of 8 and a Str limit of 4. The only thing they're gifted at is getting the heck away. You think a little size difference is going to matter?
Ack.
Whatever.
Again:
I always thought faeries could change their size a bit. Like... a little zippy thing to the size of a toddler/small child... which I guess is a bit larger than two feet... Hm...
So... is two feet the official upper limit of faerie size?
Are Illarion faeries allowed to change their size a bit (and, if so, how much)?
and

He said he'll leave, he came back. Again.
