Discussion: How important are the addition of player characters to the wiki? I thought basic things and information/history are more important.

players and their chars come and go.

i think, a char would have to be exceptionally important for the history of gobaith, to earn a place in the wiki

It is totally unimportant to add characters, but something tells me that players just want this and I see no reason to restrict this. The wiki is a community tool and it offers the option to add any kind of content. A guild can have its own page and why not let every member of a guild or individual character have its own page? You don't have to read it ;-)

By the way, I'd be pleased if you could contribute to the guidelines, given here: http://illarion.org/community/wiki/index.php/Guidelines. It is no sacred staff page, feel free to discuss about the given guidelines. Focus on the "Do..." part, for it is more helpful to know what to do instead of what not to do.

People are going to start adding their characters anyway if they can. We are human and therefore we want things to be known weither others care or not. Personally I set up the page to give a biographical detail of the historical people of Illarion as well as giving the NPC's a place and maybe a history. Also so those who feel the absolute need to shout to the world that they exist. And hell, if we are going to list who leaders, citizens, and guild members are, then there is a chance that they will make their character a page anyway. Might as well give them a place in the footnotes of history. A rather small and unimportant one if it must be.

It is fun to breath some more life into Illarion, even if it means we get bais Stephen Rothmen pages to comemorate Gobaiths love hate relationship with him.

I can think of a bunch of characters that deserve an own wiki entry.

And I actually agree that Stephen Rothman as the founder of the Kallahorn Knighthood definitely would be such an example.

Just in german, becuase I saw the problem just in german texts.

Also muss es so aussehen:

Character pages are useful because they are like the profiles on the online list, but you don't have to wait for people to be online. They're also alot better laid out.

I've got both my characters up there...neither are particularly important, but it's a good place for me to keep information, and for others to see it aswell if they'd like. If a person is considering joining a guild then they'd probably want to know about the members first.

I don't think you should have to be extremely important to have a wiki, after all - YOU don't have to read them.

(w00t aswell...My character page was the first one up on Illapedia :P)

I think anyone should be allowed to make a page for their char or something...

English summary: Spelling and style of many articles suck.

Note that this has only been around for just a few days and was started over the weekend. I know we are all addicts, but still things are slowly coming together. Give it time and it won't suck so much, (maybe it will actually blow too).

I just want to let you guys know that there are a lot of major articles that still need to be filled out, expecially for the cities. If anyone wants to get something started now is a very good time as the four highest linked items are cities.

Also just as a footnote, when linking items make sure that they are spelled correctly or check to see if there is already a prior link. A few things, expecially the names of gods have odd looking characters in them. Due to the fact that most of our keyboards do not have these characters the actual link does not include that. If it were to be set up with those special characters the search would never find it. Also double check before you are certian that something has a link. Don't link a page to "Pigs" when we have a monsters page with pigs on it, link it to "monsters" instead. Finially, if you think there is a page that a red link should connect to take the time to investigate. It could very likely be a simple spelling mistake or there is a page with the item on it that isn't titled the way you want it worded.

Sorry to sound like a bitch (not that I don't doubt that I am one), but it is nice to see things connect together. Personally I think we have a good base to start with, it is getting everything in one place is the problem.

Let's see what I can provide...

I will try to write down a short history of the Druids of the Forests. (who founded it, who were the leaders, any important events)

And also a short history of the Town Guard (founder, town guards captains. I don't think I will be able to name all chars who once were guards.)

If I get more time, then I'll write about the Ironhammers and Udan Trollbane, just to show off with how long I have actually been here. :P

Everything turns out to be wonderful in the wiki ;)
We had doubts first, to be honest, but you're doing a great job.

I agree to most points of Dentagon and I want to add one more:
The most important thing the Wiki should be able to do is: Guide a complete newbie. Imagine someone logs into Illarion, stands in the library and does not know what to do. This was what my "first steps" page was for, however, I just added that graphic.

Maybe someone is able to fill it with content and guied a newbie.
Where should I go?
What can I do?
Where can I do that?
What should I consider?

And so on.

That was actually the rest of my post all about ;-) Better post articles that can be improved than no article. The wiki is no collection of essays, everybody can contribute his own small part. *starts to edit town articles*

hehe,

OK, I am confused about one feature on Wiki...

How do you use the "UserTalk" feature?

People have sent me messages, but I'm not sure how to respond. That's why I haven't.

How do you use this?
