A question about the Grey Rose. If an English speaking player approached them and asked to join, would they let them? I have to wonder how things would be if Dan ended up there instead of Kallahorn. Or even if he would have been accepted.

The answer to your question is no they would not. Foraker tried to join and he was turned down because he could not speak German.

I guess a topic in the forum could be enough aswell.

the community of the old language had a nice link with translation on their external guild board ... which unfortunately does not work anymore :?

but anyway, if it is desired, I could post a translation of all common items, which would be useful for both, English and German speaking players

phrases for small-talk, mm... probably only some that's used rather often since... there are way... too many phrases in german...

little conversations, good i guess... for some kind of examples.

although what i actually meant was some simple words (at least in english) like greetings, thank you, sorry, you are welcome... mm... some common words... that you can think of that might be useful to at least understand a bit of what's going on in RP... :)

This list in no way at all helps me. I don't play this game to learn German. I play this game to rp. If thats the case, maybe the Germans should make a requirement on the front page which says "Small amount of German is needed to play this game." Because thats what it's coming to.

It was for those, who only speak german, too. And now stop complaining about german people who can't speak or want to speak english. You can't speak german, can you? Then don't complain if someone can't speak your language.

@Baiyan
There is something that you are missing here. You need to remember that those of us who do not speak German or English natively fall into the "English speaking" people category by default. There are some of us around, and since we do our best to play in a language that is foreign for us, I actually find the lack of effort from some of the german speaking players rather rude towards us as a part of this community. I don't care if you write really bad english, but it's the ignoring and "you can't speak my language either" attitude that quite frankly pisses me off. You got it easy. I really envy those who speak excellent english and german.

At least you can roleplay (with others) in your own language too. I tried to include MY native langue into a roleplay of a char who spoke only Finnish and German (! - which he was 'learning'), while the emotes were written in english. Needless to say, that those german people who didn't know what was going on mostly ran away when I tried to use my powergamed Ubergut deutsch fähigkeiten on them. And nobody understood what I was saying when I spoke my native language. Meh, the reactions were a bit funny though.

So please, just give it a shot when somebody asks/does something in english. Don't ignore us, we are the ones between the rock and a hard place here.

EDIT:
And I would like to add, that back in the day when the game was uberly deutsch, I managed just fine with my crappy english. There was always someone willing to translate if a german could not understand.

Unless you want to argue that the quality of english teaching in Deutschland would have somehow detoriated during these six years I've been here.. feel free to do so. I think it's just the attitudes that have experienced the detoriation, though.

complain: express complaints, discontent, displeasure, or unhappiness
You did express displeasure or unhappiness :)

EDIT:
displeasure: the feeling of being displeased or annoyed or dissatisfied with someone or something

unhappiness: state characterized by emotions ranging from mild discontentment to deep grief
You were displeased or dissatisfied.

I as a smith would find a official list especially of the Armor parts
very useful. I judge my english to be quite ok, but if I see the
name of the helmets in german with very similar names I often
have problems to get the exact translation for a name part

e. g. cap, helmet, hat etc.

One mistaken word lead to a name of another product. I suppose
this is in other crafting professions the same problem.

If you send me a list with all armors, weapons, etc. you can make, I'll translate it.

Edit: Every crafter can do that, of course.

The problem is not to translate it somehow, but to know the exact
name the other language-player sees, when he look into the production
scrolls or clicking on an item to see the description of it.

Every quick-knitted translation improves to odds to create more
misunderstandings. So I would like a list of term really used in the game,
or better a bilingual description in the client.
