If your character is going to be strong in one area they have to suck in another.
right...a mage is strong at magic and sucks at melee. so why, tell me, a warrior who is strong at melee should be also strong at resisting magic? with your logic he should suck against magic attacks like a mage sucks against warrior attacks

No, thats not what I'm saying. Well, it is to a degree. Fighters can learn to have resistance to magic just like mages can learn to parry and dodge. Its the same, both ways. Right now its the same. If you don't like it then that's your problem. There is nothing stopping a mage (technically, aside from the stats they chose) from maxing their parry and or dodging skill or their slashing weapons skill. There is nothing stopping a fighter (technically, aide from the stats they chose) from learning magic resistance or even spell casting.

Yes there is. You need a min int to learn spell casting and no NPC gives magic resistance.

um, there is...ever tried to max parry or dodge? especially dodge? somehow thats just possible with some strange, in rp way not explainable, ways to train and just few know them.
and no, warriors cant learn casting spells when their int, willpower and essence is, counted together, under 30. than you cant teach them runes.

You still can't gain magic resistance with out another mage and powergaming.

I don't even know what I'm arguing for anymore. I don't think all characters should be equal because all people aren't equal. You make your self-worth in real life and in game. Each character is different like each person is different. I'm not arguing on the basis that all characters should be equal, just that one side isn't always more powerful and our characters are ALWAYS a victim of circumstance. You're given control over the lives of your characters and you decide what skills they gain and how many breaths they take. If a complication or a bug or a technicality won't let you pursue something then thats too bad - there are a million other directions your character can be good in.
Some people were born loving to complain, you can't escape that. I'm not saying don't discuss things. But be a little more open-minded, people. No one can win all the time.

I do not want to complain, I just wish to know why a warrior cannot have magic resistance(not from patrik). What is the role play reason mages gain this skill and not anyone else?
That is all I wish to know now.

um...mages dont get the skill too...it would be also powergaming and against the rules when mages cast on each other to train that spell.
by them it would just make more sense to HAVE it, not to powergame it, through their magical nature and their for magic used strong attributes.

They can cast on their own self to gain it, and I bet most do.

Well...thats aswell against the rule...and it should be punished as powergaming doing so for the purpose of raising magic resistance

Somehow I don't think mages have correct attributes to imploy max dodge or parry to any sort of unbalancing effect. What mage has good perception, dexterity, and agility? What fighter has good essence and intelligence? These skills are employed by people who can use them effectively.

lol then how are people supposed to raise magic resistance without breaking the rules Patric?

They aren't. He doesn't like to argue about the relevant things, only the things in which no one can win because that way he can't ever be proven wrong. I'm locking this for now because it's getting out of hand. I'll unlock it in the morning when there is a dev around that can answer your questions. Take the arguing to PM if you feel the need to continue harrassing eachother.

Magic Resistence can be gained by mages as it can be gained by warriors. The only diffence is, that magical resistence is modified by some mage attributes. So mages will have a stronger magic resistence then warriors.
Same thing with parry and dodging. Mages and warriors are able to learn it. But parry and dodging is modified by warrior specific attributes. So warriors allways have a better parry and dodging then mages.
thats it.
