Feraiden swings the door open, and waits for the elfess to trail in after him before closing it just as quickly. He moves over to a small desk in his house, and flips off his hood, some water droplets still on the hood fling in various directions. His hectic manner suddenly comes to a stop as he turns slowly to the elfess.

"I haven't been completely honest with you and Fooser recently. The ruined temple we went to the other night indeed use to be a temple to Tanora, but I have suspected that area has been used for darker matters since that time, and my suspicions have been fully realized. I sent an apprentice of mine there a while back to recover an important book, but he never returned. So I went back while you two were with me, and retrieved it myself, saw his remains, and said a few silent words before departing."

Feraiden turns around and taps on the book that he is speaking of, it is a hard covered book with white lining, very interesting looking despite its old age. He also shuffles through some of his other possessions as he keeps talking.

"I've known about this for a while, though I just let it go because I didn't have the resources to fix it, and it appeared to be of no danger until recently, with my apprentice, and now I fear Fooser is missing because of it as well. I should never have brought you there, it was wrong of me."

He grabs a long, beautiful wooden staff that was leaning up verically against a wall, and also a small pouch on a table.

"The townspeople aren't aware of this, because it only seems to have a problem with the more holy members of the community, probably because a priest like myself can remove whatever it is. I believe Fooser is safe for now, this might be a trap for myself, but I am going nonetheless."

He turns with the staff in his hand, and puts his hood back up.

"Time to find Fooser and remove this evil, and you're going to help me, lass."

And almost as quick as he entered, he swings open the door again and begins heading out into the darkness and rain again.

Sylveria's face pales, cold with rainwater and the drain of color. She feels no anger, or annoyance, as a blank shock washes over her at Feraiden's words. As the tidal wave shock ebbs out like an ocean's retreating pulse, it leaves behind the conjured image of a corpse, one that flickers erratically between the build of a human and the crumpled shape of a lizard. Sylveria shuts her eyes tightly in some upset denial.

She watches Feraiden without really seeing as he gathers a few things around the room and once more soon beckons her to follow. She obediantly throws the hood over again and bows her head, anticipating the relentless thrum of rain that unwarmly greets the two at the doorstep again. Sylveria almost can't hear the bang of the wooden door behind her through the raining weather. Wordlessly she plods closely behind Feraiden with helpless determination.

Just like that, they were back into the marsh. This time instead of random wet spots in the ground, the entire marsh seemed like a small pond. Feraiden pushed on with strong determination. His cloak went all the way to the ground, and even trailed a bit behind him. The water quickly got soaked up here, but it didn't seem to weigh him down at all.

Time goes by quickly, their speed is much faster than it was during their first stroll through. The rain crashes into rocks, branches, humans, and elves alike. Then, almost as if expected, strange noises began happening again. This time Feraiden doesn't stop, he doesn't even hesitate at all, and keeps moving forward.

Eventually, just like the first time, the odd sounds trail off into the distance. Feraiden pushes ahead with a last burst of enthusiasm as he begins to see the ruins through the trees and mist of the rain.

Nearly soaked to the skin and intentionally ignoring the occasional shiver, Sylveria trots as quickly as she can to keep up with Feraiden, whose skill at marsh navigation is even more impressive in the heavily rainy weather. The base of her cloak gathers a wet, partially caked layer of mud and dead swamp leaves, in addition to the sheer amount of water soaked into her shoes and other clothes. Her hand brushes past the icy cold tips of her ears as she tuckes some wet strands of hair behind again. Her nose and lips sport a similar chill. Sylveria grabs the front flaps of her cloak and rewraps them around herself, arms folded. A branch or two snag at her cheek in a sharp sting. Directionless in this unfamiliar marshland, her single minded aim is placed on following the dark cloaked figure immediately before her. She pours her numbed senses into closely watching Feraiden's back through the shrouding rain and listening through its drumming for his comparatively much fainter footsteps.

If she felt this way with a cloak around her and a guide before her, how awful could it be for Fooser?

She spots Feraiden suddenly rush faster into the darkness, and urges herself to keep up with faster footfalls, lest she lose her strongest dependency in this dark wet marsh.

Feraiden nearly trips, he is even going too fast for himself now. He slows down, but it doesn't matter much because he is right in front of the ruins now, and he stops completely and looks at the area analytically. He continues looking silently, waiting for the soft footsteps of the elfess to come up behind him.

"Here we are."

He starts to climb up on one of the rolled over stones, that was probably once part of a wall. He tries to survey the area, but the rain and fog hinder him from doing so with any efficiency. He takes out a small parchment and begins going through it quickly, not caring that it is slowly getting destroyed by the water.

After reading the parchment, he throws it onto the ground and pulls his staff up in front of him. With the other hand he reaches for the pouch he brought and takes out what appears to be a stone.

"Here lass, catch. Hold that, and ignore everything you see and hear."

He tosses the stone to the lady, and starts whispering words. As he does so, the stone gives off a small light, and his staff also gives off a similar light from the top. As this happens, the wind becomes more violent, voices begin to fill the air. Although they just seem like whispers, each person seems to make out the words differently.

You're going to die foolish human, you are a pathetic form of a priest, and you are usless. You're going to die, and we will enjoy watching you burn in the underworld.

Feraiden seems to shrug off what the voices say into his ear and keeps whispering inaudible sentences, the rain and wind seem to soak up his voice so that it doesn't go far.

As all of this happens, in the place where Feraiden pushed debree to cover human remains only a few nights earlier, a boney hand begins to move.

Sylveria catches hold of the stone, barely releasing the bundled cloak front in time and freeing her hands before the stone comes sailing lightly through the darkness before her. She cushions the fall and feels the weight of the stone in her hands. Sylveria barely hears Feraiden's word of precaution before the excrutiatingly faint sound of chanted spells reaches her ears shortly afterwards.

Her shock at the alarming closeness of the voices makes her spin to a side as if a ghost had leaned across her shoulder and whispered straight into her ear. The clarity of the whispered voices is such an abrupt contrast to the endless, repetitive rainpour that it surprises the elfess. Sylveria feels like her ears are placed in the openings of two different walls: the sound of the rain and Feraiden's hardly audible spells come through one, the chilling spirit voices through the other. They seem to have no regard for each other's presence.

The greatest of her fears seizes her heart as Sylveria sees a twitch of thin, dirty white in the side of her vision and realizes what the nature of the moving thing under the rock is. She freezes.

Feraiden continues blasting through different sentences, as if he knows exactly what to say, and when to say it. He begins stuttering as he also sees the figure, which is now fully upright and looking at the two of them with eye sockets with no eyes. He almost fails taking his own advice, but looks back down away from it and continues muttering.

The dead creature stares at the priest until he looks away again, and turns its attention onto the elfess holding the small stone. It begins taking weak steps forward until it is only a few feet from her, and it reaches out with its cold, non existant hand.

The shivering elfess stands deathly pale and paralyzed in terror under the downpour. Her wide eyed gaze is helplessly seized by the dead corpse's own gaping, eyeless stare. The fear from that rotting, hollow gaze bores straight into her heart, she feels the cold tips of her fingers beginning to go flaccid with lost strength. Rainwater splatters against its soiled white bones, and it puts an eerie, almost unnatural gleam to the approaching corpse. She feels every limb of her body twitch with the instinctive need to flee, but the presence in her mind is of one that sneers to her, for the lack of places to run to, places to hide. Cold tears of sheer terror stream from her eyes, matching the temperature of the rain that patters against her face. The smothering chill that covers Sylveria worsens with every tiny, further stretch of that lifeless hand, wretched with death.

Feraiden nearly spits out the last words as he almost goes too fast saying them, but he does nonetheless. His staff and the stone the elfess holds both get a little bit brighter, then suddenly in some coordination, they both give off a ring of light, that quickly spreads outward like a ripple in water. The undead creature gets knocked over from this, and it lands onto the stones of the ruin, not getting up, its bones start to deteriorate very quickly, until they are very brittle.

Feraiden lets out a sigh of relief as the rain lessens to a drizzle, lightly hitting against the trees and the stones. He leans back, resting against a stone, and closes his eyes for a moment tiredly.

Somewhere within the maze of stones he can hear his lizard friend groan lightly. Feraiden merely leans back and nods slowly, while continuing to breathe out heavily.

For several very long instants, Sylveria remains frozen in a wincing position, her eyes shut tightly beneath her bowed hood, the strange stone held far in front of her at full arm's length in the clasp of both hands.

It takes the terrified elfess several moments to realize the annihilation of the danger around her, and once she finally does, her eyes flash open and dart around in a very alert manner. Gradually, her frantic nervousness dissapates with the lightening rain and Feraiden's calmer disposition. Several paces away, the rain patters away at the crumbling remains of the horrific body that had been gaping slack jawed at her only minutes before. It lays still and broken on the worn stone floor. Sylveria suddenly becomes aware of the feeling of being in one world of sound and feeling again instead of two.

Her attention is abruptly turned again at the faint but audible groan of a more familiar voice. Sylveria's eyes widen after a moment in recognition, and she hastily tries to hand the stone back to Feraiden, her gaze meanwhile darting without hesitation in every corner of the ruins.

Fooser's eyes begin to open slowly, but they quickly shut again as he winces as the rain drops hit against his snout, cheek, and eye lids. He tries to shake the water that has accumulated on him, and tries to lean upwards. His head was pounding, possibly from hitting one of the rocks. He couldn't really remember anything beyond heading to get the wood, it was odd. How did he end up here?

He peeks up over the stones, looking for any signs of life besides himself, and the trees surrounding the ruins.

The rain seems almost docile in contrast to its earlier downpour. Sylveria wipes the back of her wrists across her forehead and face, just now realizing how much water has accumulated there. The mist and shrouding rain isn't quite so heavy now, and before long, after searching anxiously around the ruins, she finally spots the reptilian figure that she has close to mind near another rubble pile. Relief rushes over her faster than rainwater when she sees Fooser's head craning up to look around, and she hurries over in her water heavy cloak. Sylveria places a fast kiss atop Fooser's forehead as her worry releases and doubles over throwing a hug about the lizard. She holds it for a gripping moment before sitting up in her kneel again and wiping the lizard's face free of rainwater as best as she can. Sylveria edges closer and shields a side of her wet cloak over his head to relieve him from the rain falling directly into his eyes. The frown of her unspoken worry gradually begins to calm and dissapate as the minutes pass on slowly. With just a smaller bit of anxiety the elfess watches Fooser in the dark of the stormy evening, as the rain pitterpatters down on the three and the broken temple around them.

Fooser just barely has enough time to orient himself with the surroundings before he gets smothered by the elfess. He gets startled at first, but then realizes who it is and relaxes.

"Syl what happe---ah, never mind, I can find out later, I guess."

After he embraces Sylveria back, he starts to try and stand up, wobbling for a short while before walking normally. He looks over at the human nearby.

"Feraiden? Mh...greetings."

Feraiden merely takes a nod, still breathing fairly heavily. Fooser walks over to him and takes a seat on one of the stones nearby.

"Seems to have been a bit of trouble here...I visited because I wanted a break from my problems...but I guess that didn't work out so well. When it rains, it pours."

He says, not even realizing how well his comment fits with the actual weather.

"This I know."

Feraiden removes a pipe from a pocket and quickly lights it and begins taking puffs from it, the smoke going slowly into the air, like steam.

"Syl, I avoided telling you, but I got in a bit of trouble back on the island...It was wrong of me not to tell you."

The lizard says with a frown, not realizing how much his words sound like Feraiden's just a bit earlier in the day.

"Not much of a break though ..."

"When are you heading back?"

"Soon probably.."

Sylveria hugs to Fooser's torso when he gets to his feet unsteadily and tries to aid his support as best as she can. She walks beside him to sit on some stones near Feraiden, who soon takes out his trademark pipe. The puffs from it are more vaporous, and Sylveria also thinks a tiny word of thanks to the somewhat heavy air for keeping the ordinarily choking smoke repressed.

She raises her eyes from a spot on the floor when Fooser addresses her in the quiet conversation. She mutely wonders what the lizard would mean by "trouble" on the island of Gobaith, but decides from his tone that she would hear a more elaborated explanation soon enough, with a little longer patience.

"Not much of a break though ..."

"When are you heading back?"

"Soon probably.."

Sylveria sits clinging against Fooser with a quiet weariness, the kind that hits someone suddenly after more frantic times, and listens to the short conversational intercourse between the other two. The even drizzle continues unremarkably around them in the dark of the evening. Sylveria is too tired from the hard trek through the heavy wet marshes to break even a yawn. Partially misty visions of gaping, eyeless stares and fields of blinding light fill her wearily blinking eyes at a time or two. The rain spatters on.

The return trip was swift and quiet, just as before, despite the weariness of all three of them. The rain slowly came to a halt as they reached the edge of the settlement, a few lights remained, like in the house of Fooser's parents. Feraiden was the first to enter, smiling a bit as Slooser looked at him questioningly.

"Poor Fooser went out, got a little light-headed, so rested at the inn for a few hours. Nothing to worry about."

Slooser shakes his head, figuring all this worry was for nothing (or was it?). He goes and sits back down at his seat, and begins eating his late night meal of snake and onions.

"Sorry about that.."

Fooser looks around before going on.

"We're going to be heading out tomorrow I think. So we should rest as soon as possible...if you don't mind Syl?"

Fooser begins walking toward their rooms without even awaiting an answer, figuring he already knew what she would "say". After walking Syl back to her room and giving a quick embrace, he goes into his room and falls asleep almost immediately.

"....r a few hours. Nothing to worry about."

Sylveria hears the tail end of Feraiden's report to Slooser as she steps in, the last of the three to enter. She is briefly puzzled by the older lizard's remarkably nonchalant reply until she realizes that Feraiden has obviously told a lie about Fooser's recent whereabouts. Sylveria immediately decides that it is better not to change this reassurance given to Fooser's parents.

Only once the rain stops and she walks inside does Sylveria fully realize how wet and cold she is. She touches her nose and ears and barely feels how cold they are because of how cold her fingers are themselves. Looking a little bashful for trailing the dripping water into the house, Sylveria takes off her cloak and shyly excuses herself outside again briefly. She doubles it as well as she can and wrings a full puddle onto the muddy ground. Laying the cloak on a cleaner spot, she takes the edge of her clothing and also tries to wring as much out as possible while she still has it on. Finally after wringing the water out of her long, dark hair, Sylveria gathers up the cloak and heads inside again.

After hugging Fooser before going into her room, it takes all of the elfess' remaining energy to refrain from falling straight asleep in her wet clothing right into the bed. However, she fears it would be rude to dampen the bed in rainwater for the sake of her own exhaustion, and wearily changes into some drier clothing. Sylveria barely manages to lay out her wet clothing articles on the stool and the headboard before tumbling into bed and falling asleep before her own eyes have a chance to close all the way. The elfess spends the night cocooned in dreamless sleep until morning.

Fooser awoke the next morning fairly early despire how tired he was last night. He slept like the dead the entire time he did. The rains that came yesterday had all but vanished, as the sun had now taken possession again. The light came softly through the window, and right into his face.

He sits up in his bed and shakes his head around rapidly to try and quicken the waking up process. In the back of his mind he still ponders what exactly went on yesterday. He didn't have the energy or even care to discuss it yesterday, and he still didn't today really.

His two feet hit against the floor as he finally stands. He starts collecting various possessions and putting them together. They would have to be heading out soon, many of the sailors did not like leaving too late. Once his bag was full, he closed it as tight as possible and leaves it near the door of his room.

Fooser then makes his way out into the hallway, and lightly knocks on Sylveria's door.

As sometimes happens after a night of deep sleep, Sylveria wakes up by... simply opening her eyes, as if there were but merely such a short instant between sleep and the state of being awake. Her forest green eyes glance around, at the room, the pillow under her head, the bright light hitting the wall through the curtains, before the rest of her body sits up and turns to the side of the bed. With an unthinking sort of peacefulness, she rises and prepares everything as she did on the other mornings spent here. The clothing from the night before, having been mostly wrung out, is mostly dry now, or at least dry enough to fold and pack again. Her shoes are still the dampest, though by far not nearly as wet as when she took them off to sleep.

After placing the pillow back into its spot, it occurs to Sylveria that Fooser had mentioned something regarding departure the next day. She wonders if this will still be in effect, and does a quick check around the room for anything left behind. Having only a small amount of travel belongings to have concern for, she finally nods to herself after the satisfactory check. In good timing, footsteps and a knock arrive at her door. She stands from her seat on the bed and opens it, smiling brightly for knowing who it is.

Fooser enters the room, and smiles at the elfess.

"Time to head back home, I guess."

He goes and grabs his bag from his own room, and then comes back and takes Sylveria's stuff as well, and walks down the hall and drops them off right next to the door. His father is sitting in his usual chair, and looks up at the two as they enter.

"Well, it was interesting having you back, Foos. And nice meeting you as well Sylveria. You all can come visit anytime you want."

Slooser gets up for a quick embrace with his son, and Fooser does the same when his mother quietly enters the room.

"There will be food on the boat, so no need to worry about breakfast. We need to get going as soon as possible."

"Alright then. I wish you both a safe trip."

Fooser becons Sylveria to follow as he opens the door and grabs the both bags all in one swift motion. He heads down the slight incline onto the road and heads for the docks. The day is very much like it was the day they arrived, human and lizards walking about during the sunny morning. They make it to the dock after only a couple of minutes. Fooser peers at the only available ship leaving at this time, and shakes his head as he already knows who the captain is.

"Oh, Feraiden wanted to join us. He said he needed a "break" as well. The man never really stays in one spot for too long. I hope you don't mind?"

He says, as he plops the bags onto the side of the ship, right next to the half dead, drunken crew member. The lizard then waits for a few moments before spotting the human through a crowd of sailors and merchants. He approaches and nods at the two of them.

"Sorry, I was a tad late."

Feraiden throws his bags onto the ship in an even less graceful manner then Fooser, and then he hops onto the ship awkwardly, but lands alright. Fooser then follows, and holds out his hand to pull Sylveria up as well. The captain begins to steer the boat out of the dock area, and then away from the island as they finally head back to Gobaith.
