Hmm...interesting. What is up with this?
Misjilah is supposed to be lazy. Really lazy. So lazy that she cannot even open a damned door for herself, correct?
Then why would she even bother to
Misjilah actually would teach you, hell, she would even teach lizards that farm!
She would bother to take time out her day and waste energy for that? That sounds really dumb.
Oooooon the same subject, Magic is supposed to be special. Once more I stress that. As a matter of fact it is not supposed to be in the hands of everyone. You willing to teach anyone, including lizards that farm, really puts a grim look on my face. Everyone will have magic since you are willing to throw it all around.
Doesn't that completely destroy the point of what not only the GM's wanted (IE not everyone having magic and truly being worthy) and destroying the RP of your "lazy" character.
As a matter of fact, if she is so lazy as to not even open a door or walk down the road, why does she even bother to get out of bed? Or to even talk? or to eat? Wouldn;t chewing be too stenuous?
I really think alot of you should get your stuff together.

it seems to me this topic has outlived any usefulness it had when we have people resorting to picking at one another. it's about time we get back to the topic at hand.
discuss magic as a system, questions, comments and so on. enough of this going after singular individuals for whatever reasons there seem to be.
this topic isn't about dicussion the rp of magic playing characters, but after so many pages of things like the post above it's obvisously become that. If you don't have something related to the system questions and information as such i dont' see why this nit picky player bashing should be put in it's place.

I beg your fucking pardon? If you cannot distinct between those two things, then you are really, really a long way from here. Teaching someone would actually not require me too move, and will only have to be me working with my mind. The same thing she does when actually using magic.
And the lizards that farm comment was directed at Mazrian.

I have a question. When someone makes like a evil vine. Can they just see the area or what? I mean are they standing there in spirit or something?

I know. I've been keeping up with the thread. I just thought maybe certain 'powers that be' might need a good kick in the crotch to get going.

Or we could add a few more pages by saying how the topic is too big and the argument is circular.

This topic is staying where it is. Remember; you don't need to post to this. It'll remain as is and whenever somebody feels the need to discuss something about the magic system, they can just post here.

I know but were they there and were they there but not there?

Of course they were there. They have to be. But as far as your character knows. No.
*lowers voice* They's invisible. *does creepy, hypnotic finger wave*

Why doesn't the skill rise, although I saw about 5 Skill-ups?
Maybe another skill lvled up. Magic is quite complex. In addition, when you see 5 lvl ups, the skill is still... damn low.

Every time you cast a spell you not just train the spells skill, but also ancient, because you are speaking the spell runes in ancient.

gonna take awhile for any noticable color change. then again. might be your ancient improving every so oftwn as well.

"Awhile" probably being about two weeks or so.

Ok, so once people finally become capable of teaching runes how is it going to be done? I mean will it be like I pay you 5 silvers you teach me these runes? Or will there be quests or will it just be whatever that person decides to charge?

I have a suggestion:
Since magic is pretty much chanellign mana through your body...
I would make constitution fall (not the number, but activly) dependant on the magic skills, as the body becomes weaker and more magical orientated... however, essence should increase (and magical resistance) as this goes on.
So an archmage would be extremly difficult to kill with spells, since his body chanells so much of it, that it wouldn't notice the difference; but once you get up close, easy to finish off.
My two cents

is it possible to change your stats like that?
Posted: Sun Apr 16, 2006 10:19 pm

it's not nesscary. and i don't think to wonderful of an idea. mages already have low constitution among other things. i dont' see that need for any such system.

Mages need Essence, Perception, Willpower and Intelligence.
just quoting this from a prior thread and setting the record straight for anyone making a magic based character. Perception is apparently not used in magic. it came up in a discussion recently and remembering it was once stated this way i felt it should be set straight.

Just more of a remark:
Sometimes ORL KAH QWAN doesn't fail, yet doesn't give me anything either. Bugged or intended?

its a bug but nitram knows....

Err, I was told recently that it was actually intended.

Exactly how does the magick system work? And how does one learn it?
Posted: Mon Jun 12, 2006 11:35 pm
by Korwin
I won't comment on exactly how the magic system works, but your character would learn magic by seeking out a master mage willing to teach you.
