Also impossible to be very good at either. Magic takes high intelligence to be decent in, and you need alot of strength to be a good fighter now. So a rough mix of both would make an not terribly strong or good at magic fighter. Not to mention even learning and using magic is at least 20x harder than physical fighting. In physical fighting you have 2 choice skills, in magic you have about 10(not counting all the runes) with no armor, and they are going to have a more complicated system than is in place. I think thats pretty fair.
I wear and fight in leather, and don't use metal because I prefer to blast my enemy with spells as we battle. My disadvantage is that I don't wear metal, so I'll get struck much harder. Nor do I use shields, I use a two handed weapon.

So, now, a mage can put up a balanced and fair fight with a fighter.

I think that if you are casting spells and using combat at the same time, you should get a penatly for both. I mean come on, you can't put full concentration in your spells and how hard you hit at the same time.

The penalty is you can't wear metal armor. You can't attack and cast at the same time, it will stop your attack when you cast.

Oh... I just remember being able to cast spells and fight at the same time. Oh well...

well there is a delay in action if you have someone targeted and your hitting with a weapon. The spells become slower and that gap alone is enough to make you run from an enemy in the right situation.

Actually, I think it's perfectly reasonable that I can cast and slash in the same session of battle, considering I'm wearing absolutely no metal for protection. And as mentioned, yes, there is a delay.

But hey, I've put over a year into the development of my character and his roleplaying. I think I deserve to win fights a bit now rather than get beaten up by everybody I see.

Um I was reading through this board and I came up with a question. I set my halfling as max intelligence that he could get (18) (highest was 19 for an elf). I also know that a halfling shouldnt be a mage ( I dont want mine to be). But do you think an extrodinarly smart halfling could learn a few spells (Im most interested in the healing spell). I know Im going to have to roleplay him to get a healing spell but just to make sure even though I am a halfling. Would that be counted against me (the knowing of magic)?

ah my main charicter Jhon Sivan got caght with noone else around and a fly chaseing him . after getting cornered I fought back it took me 20 hits with a firesword hitting the fly untill the fly killed Jhon . this is bad it takes Jhon 30+ hits with a firesword to kill a pig also .

this is acualy the first time Jhon had to fight after the fighting system change . the week things are to strong now even a kid should be able to kill a fly befor dieing .

Yeah but scopians can't fly, making their agility very low. Not to mention they really aren't that big, stepping on a scorpian isn't that hard. Now if it was a giant scopian, it might be different.

I cant wait to see how strong (hear more like) demons are!!

Ogres used to kill me in 1 hit if i had no shields on. Now it takes 3.

Demons used to kill me in one hit without my shields on... dunno how many it takes now.

Demons used to be able to hurt me anywhere from 1/4 of my health (with two lion shields on) to 2/3 of my health.... im curious if its better now.

Also, I want to know if the rot is any good. Maybe its really bad now! woohoo!

Well, demons hit pretty hard, but less than they used to (oddly). About 1/4 health for a person with average agility, master of parry, raw recruit in dodge, with a metal battlestaff. They are definately still beatable, but I ran like mad when I saw them and got hit.
