Good Caranthir, tho I see the logic in your planning. With a mote instead of a wall, a thin bridge and a few lengths as is already in place of thin wall. You have the same effect, with out eye saw, with out minimising town agriculture. Not to mention allowing how ever many archers or mages free field of fire and a chance to select targets of importance and take them down before they are upon the solitary fighter.
Not only this but the overall cost of the project would have been substancialy cheeper, have the added bonuses of improoving upon the original defence design and vastly improoving the towns growing agricultural needs instead of hindering it as stated on my previouse note.

But what about the tavern? Marketplace? There is ladder leading to silverbrand from the tavern, and from silverbrand to Library, and if someone reaches the library, hell, he is right in middle of the town.

The mote and bridge would be defendable in exactly the same way as the wall and gate is, which is around the tavern..this is what we are talking about, the defence around the tavern.
Wether it be the wall or the mote there is no secondary line of defence as such. If the defenders must fall back then there is the second bridge which can be held and the tavern door. Both of which are easily accesible to fresh fighters comming up to replace the fallen.[/quote]

The day I see a demon use a ladder is the day I rule the island.

Yes a moat would work nicely, but, I am not at all certain if demons are smart enough to make pre-built bridges or use small boats to float across. This would be a real problem.
