Does it really make sense selling shovels and hammers for one goldpiece if the materials are worth two?
Posted: Wed Apr 09, 2003 9:17 pm
by paul laffing
Yes, it makes sense. People will see what a good deal they are getting. Thank you for bringing up that point.

That´s in my eyes a iniquity / insult against the normal economy and other smith´s.

I can set whatever prices I want, as many others have said.

Sure can you do it, I didn´t forbid and never will do it.
This was "only" a reference for you, don´t complain if you have to "wear" the consequences.

Why should i be punished for my prices when many others set prices lower than me?

Dear Paul Laffing,
As you call yourself a merchand, you should know some basics about economie. Selling things cheaper than the materials and the time of work will cost, will ruin yourself.
How long can you effort yourself such dumping prices, making no profit.
Coal and iron will be 2 gold, the working time minimal 1 gold, so the minimalst price would be 3 gold. And there, you have no profit. So making profit, you have to sell it for at least 4 gold.
And with these dumping prices you also ruin the whole economy for other traders.

You cannot think only of yourself in the position of merchant...you affect a wide range of peoples and the economy itself. Paul, heed my words, don't be so selfish as to make prices so low as it ruins the business of all other hard-working merchants. Take the wise path, and make life better for all.

Sure, you can be an accountant if you can help pull the guts out of zombies.
