May I suggest that both of you stop alienating each other? What I hate about Illa is that everyone tries to get on everyones nerves if they don't like them. Also people try to chase people off or when they are banned, they create multiple accounts and claim how mature they are and how unfair that was. Which in turn makes them look even more mature.
Solution: IP ban them both.
Then again, this doesn't work then it is the gms doing the alienating. Which yes, does happen, yet no one is willing to say anything.
Solution: Checks and balances in GM system
Not only that, but when ever we have something going in English and everything switches to German it leaves a good majority of the population out. That and we have only one purely english speaking GM (though from what I understand she left). And even then, I was told most of the stuff in the GM forum is in German so English only GMs can't read it. Doesn't this defeat the purpous of working together and discussing things no matter what forum it is. RP and Guilds is understandable, though it would be useful for guilds to have both versons (I shouldn't be talking as I still need to get someone to translate KoG's).
Solution: More American/Canadian GMs who are active. People who are fluent in both languages and are willing to translate certian posts for people. Stop taking General posts and turning them into a flame fest of German. And don't claim that some aren't as I think most people understand what dummkopf means. And stop taking something that was written in both languages and making it solely one or the other. Expecially if is in newbie.
If we have a bi-ligual forum, lets make it bi-lingual and not one or the other!

I've talked to Nitram about Karl. It does no use to banned his ip because he continues to come back through Dynamic IP or possibly even proxies. IP bans don't always work.
Btw: What does the german word mean?

I'm on a proxy currently.
In case you do not know what this means. I'm using a website that changes my IP because the IP the server sees is the website's IP and not my own.

Babelfish says: "stupid-bought"
I'd rather see josh kicked out then karl to be honest...

The german/english gap IS becoming a massive problem, most of the time I can't understand anyone who's online, and even the forums... when a post is done in english/german, it usually ends up totally german, then the english speakers get scared off. Look at the new "chronicals" thread.

You must learn to deal with me. ^_^

That's because I wrote kauft instead of kopf. So I accidently wrote stupid buys instead of stupid head.

This is why I avoid speaking German.

There's one more problem with Illa that the developers/gms/admins/directors have nothing to do with: The RP

Some people just simply refuse to do it right.

More english speaking GMs:
Agreed. Donate a sports car and we will consider your application
Skill system change:
I am a big fan of the current system in terms of the basic code. The code calls for values in a table in the database that determine the skillgain speed and other effects. Those values cause the current state, the code itself can realize almost any kind of state. Except gaining skill without ANY action.
And thanks for the link, I remember reading the whole topic and it reminds me alot on a skill system Damien proposed once. It was declined, though.

Can't I just give you a big hug and bake some cookies instead?
And yes, please do consiter that proposal once again. People do like it and it would make the lives of those who are here to rp and not play runescape lives much easier. And I REALLY don't want Illa to be another runescape...

It can't be Runescape because it's not browser based. But other then that, Illarion is pretty close to being Runescape. I go in ig everyday and I get lucky to rp 5 #me with one person. It really sucks, I don't go ig to pg, i go ig to rp.

I have experienced enough cases when it was just the other way around. I think it´s quite balanced.
To the new "chronicals" thread: First post is bilingual. German speaking persons reply in German and English speaking person reply in English. Hell, its kind of magic.
What about being a good example and posting also a German text, even if it is just a crap translation from an online translator. This would surely help only-German-persons to get the context.
Pity that this thread is English only...
/PS: I see many new threads in the internal boards which are English only. I don´t think that this is a big problem...

Statistics show (alatar's thread about english and german)
(
http://illarion.org/community/forums/vi ... hp?t=23466)
133 people speak english enough to get by while
18 people don't understand english
So 11% of the population wont understand an english only thread...

wrong.
I don´t blame you because many Germans wrote the following in German:
"I am mostly able to understand English, but not exquisite Emotes or these gigantic forum discussions. Writing is even worse than understanding."
Yet they chose
[X] I can understand English
which was the actual question. So even if they could understand some things they are not able to tell their opinion.
Just to put things in right order.

Look at the towns ig. Greenbriar is officially all German. If I try to go down there and speak english with my character I am ignored. Silverbrand is completely German, i've tried to go down there with a english character and they speak in German the whole time while making decisions about my character. Also, I tried to make a dwarven character and have him a citizen of the town, they were all german so I basically just ended that idea.
Grey Rose is always German but they seem to be the ones that are most friendly to outsiders. I've never been ignored when going there. But look at the boards. Trolls Bane's boards last 5 posts are all in german. How does this look to a newcomer to the game? Wtf is what it looks like. Also, half of the guards in Trolls Bane are german. What if a noobie gets attacked by a bandit? #s Help!. Nothing happens.

Last time i was around in Greenbriar... there were several people who can't speak english. But most people I know of in briar.. do speak english.
As for Silverbrand, there was one dwarf who speaks only english. Not sure if he still plays or not though.

Cabbage would you mind stopping that flaming about german speaking players?
And as for Julius:
The Grey Rose was made for people who's english is too bad to neither understand nor speak/emote in english. As for silverbrand: No idea. Most of them speak english, but don't mind when they start talking in german. If you could speak german, they'd start talking dwarfish
I don't have an idea bout Greenbriar, tough.
For the guards: The time before Siltaris got Governor, it was as good as impossible to become a guard when you were german. I tried with about 4 characters, to join the guard while steven was governor and I failed everytime. So now it's more fair then before I'd say. Besides that, Help and Hilfe are understood by the whole comunity I guess.
And for common:
It happens a lot of times to me, that I'm in the middle of a rp with a german player, when a english-only character appears. And when I start to emote and speak in english, the german player I was rping with ends the rp or just keeps on speaking german. It even happened to me, that a player who spoke english, didn't react to me anymore when I started to use english instead of german. And in such situations, I will go back to german and keep the rp I already begun, instead of cutting it and starting a new one.

What could be really useful is a book in the library of common words and their translation so people can have easier ways of speaking to each other when they need help. Greetings/Gruesse would be one, along with help/hilfe. Then there can be words for certain object like coal, wood, sword, armour, as well as buy, sell, and even the different professions.
A question about the Grey Rose. If an English speaking player approached them and asked to join, would they let them? I almost had Dan join their knighthood, but was turned off when I saw it was mostly German based. Therefore he ended up with Kallahorn. I have to wonder how things would be if Dan ended up there instead of Kallahorn. Or even if he would have been accepted.
