sorry i am not any expert but comman sence would tell anyone that a reasonably good wrestler would destroy a new person that barley knows how to swing a weapon in fact the more armor the new person had on would work against him...

You have a 0% chance to parry without some weapon in your hands. That is why some one wrestling takes so much damage from a person with a weapon.

Ohh. There is parry. But the parry damage your hands more then the sword of your enemy

Oh yeah. I forgot you just can't parry with no weapon in hand if you do not attack back. And are there still plans to add martial arts in? or will wrestling be it for hand to hand?

I always considered wrestling a basic term for unarmed fighting.
in my brain Wrestling+tactics=martial arts. so those are the skills i try to raise for my characters that use unarmed combat. btw Nitram, you gonna tell us what tactics does yet?

So Nitram...any chance wrestling will be changed as an outcome of this topic?

I think archery should be fixed first in that case.

if the topic were about archery then i'd agree with you, but for the time being i'm gonna have to ask you to STFU

combat...
i got some training, when i was still young and fit.
silas, you are right, there are tecniques, to win unarmed against most melee weapons.
but who knows them? more than 5% of a given population?
for the average knife wealder a good and timed kick at the wrist, and thats it.
but allready a rambo or dundee knife gives your opponent a longer radius of action.
the opponent using a cleaver or a machete, everybody, short of the higher dans, needs at least a broomstick or a chair to get in unharmed.
i never fought a swordsman, but, really, i am not eager, to try.
so concluding from RL to the game:
if the armed Noob is not very handicapped in agility or something similar, only a very bright yellow wrestler should be able to survive such a fight.

Do you think its fair on those who trained up wrestling?

But in real life there are places where you can not bring weapons. Drawing a weapon takes time, it is a lot easier to fight unarmed on tight places. You often have the benefit of surprise attacks.
Allso there are ways to make somone faint with a single touch.
You can hit somone with the inside of the palm, wich is just as efective as hiting with a cleched fist, but in a court you would get away with it rather well, as witnesses could say you did not even clench your fists. If you did the same thing with a knife or sword...
However, these things are hard to represent ingame, so unarmed fighters should get some other benefits instead?

disagreed. for one thing techniques for disarming enemies are common in every martial art, and most simple self defense courses have them.
been training i several forms of martial arts since i was a wee little one (i was five). and swing plenty of sword to know that you can't just flick your wrist back and forth and expect to get enough cutting power to go through someones limbs, you have to put actual swing effort into it, and when you miss you don't suddenly just give alittle twist and bring the blade the other way. swords are more encumbering then you think they are.
there are to many variables in combat to say who will win each and every time. regardless of a weapon, all it takes is one mistake and things can change immensely.

nah, just go F#$% yourself, or stop caring.
Maybe this should be put into the game to make it fair, instead of just a critical you have a chance of knocking a weapon out of your enemies hands. I'm sure it'd be a scripting nightmare though

There is a reason why weapons are used. Somone dueling an armed fighter, and is unarmed himself would have a very small chance. Somone good unarmed have as I said other advantages instead.
Martial arts are not as efective as most think, the bigest benefit is that it makes you strong.

Martial arts is as effective as people think the problem is most people aren't as effective as the martial arts they use. Alot of times especially when you look at chinese martial arts (which has alot of family based styles) for example, styles of martial arts are based on a certain body types or particular ranges, reaches or types of motion really don't work for most people. Which is why you have black belts who still get the crap kicked out of them after ten years of training.
Great martial artists are very rare. black belts who suck (like america and it's mc'donalds approach to martial arts) are like water in a ocean.

As you know they exist, I supose you know one?;) There is a league for this these fighting arts. First place I think, is something called Crow Maga. Wich is from somwhere in europe. Seckond is plain boxing...
This is just like people thinking that asian katanas (I know katna simply mens sword, but you know what I mean) were so much more efective than european longswords, wich is not true.
The grass of your neighbour is allways greener...

Well, it's not very easy to train wrestling onto good yellow, so they definitly would be rare
Btw., I think there should be some weapons like Katars or something, so that there can be fighters who look elegant and are thin and everything and not only Arnold-Schwarzenegger-like Swordswingers.

Elven swords are a little Katana like?

Rapier? Can you get more elegant than that?
