i have to agree completely on every post Urilen Quanasuard makes.

char wipe = punishment for those who concentrate too much on skills and not rp, while at the same time enables a fresh start and non of this crap going on currently.

easier skill gain = less time powergaming and more unique chars

A character wipe wouldn't solve anything! What will prevent the characters/RP to evolve how it is at the moment?!

If you really want an rp game, why not give all characters who have a fighter start package 80% fighting skills? And the same with magic and crafting and barding.

Ah. It's just, when they had the other char wipe, the whole history of Illarion was started again, or at least that was what I read when I lurk in the old sections of Illarion. Anyway, my bad.

@Alex: Easy. Make magic easier. It doesn't have to be as hard as it is now.

The skills aren't the bad thing. It's the gaining the runes in the first place.

I only say it because you can have no decent background (for example a seasoned fighter; you can have many good backgrounds as children or student's don't get me wrong) with no skills. The only real problem I can see is the noob ctrl clickers.

Again. Make runes easier to get. Illarion is suppose to be focusing on RP, not hunting for a teacher, and getting your skills up so you can get a stone.

You don't need skills to get runes. You need to spend ages rp'ing. We don't want magic to be easy to get. I fear it's too easy currently but anyway to get kel and qwan should take a long time. I like this method. If they wiped it and wiped our runes we'd have to do it aaaaall again.

But it could fix a lot of problems. Runes are the least of our worries when it comes down to this.

I don't think anyone should get 80% for picking a package. Maybe closer to 30/40%. Enough to make a good start, yes. Enough for people who chose another package to catch up. yes.

Wrong.

Stop talking about a wipe. The idea is preposterous. There can be no real roleplay in a graphical game without the skill to back it up but at the same time this is not a hack and slash so to get skill you need to roleplay it out or you get a speakin'-to. I'm sick of hearing about more focus on roleplay and I'm sure the rest of the staff is as well. There IS maximum focus on roleplay. No one can be involved in all the roleplay. What makes this game and others like it unique is that there aren't mass NPC run quests to level you up for every new player. There are a hundred different roleplay situations and personal quests going on all over the map, all over the place in which all you recieve as payment is experience as a player. There is a ton of stuff going on in game, find something and get involved or create your own personal storyline and involve others.

There is more than plenty roleplay to go around and more than enough ideas to make more with no restriction to how much can be going on at once. Don't blame people leaving the game for a lack of RP in YOUR world because the fault lies entirely with you if you can't find something to involve yourself in. People join and leave all the time in every game. It can't be helped. Stop crying about it. Make the most of your time because no one else is going to do it for you.

A char wipe to "punish" skill-powergamers ?

Now think a bit deeper please, and don't just look at the first impression of the idea.

Every powergamer will have his skills back up in a quite short while and pwn everyone else, even old chars.
Every non-powergaming roleplayer will need ages to gain at least some skill, and will be really owned by those powergaming (now, they can at least give some resistance by uniting).
Plus, many old players will again just give up in recreating their characters or also in building up new ones because doing so again and again just to be able to survive a bit in the game, and leave.
So, whom would you really punish with a char wipe ?
See. And things would get much worse. And that's all about it.

Damien is right

A powergamer doesnt cry much about a wipe. since he is a powergamer he can get the stuff quickly back.

A roleplayer who builds up his skills over month and years WILL cry. a powergamer lost the work of 2-3 month. a roleplayer the work of much more time. An illarion lifetime.

A charwipe just benefits powergamers at the end, because they will gain skills quicker back than non powergamers and pwn them.

so i ask. why do you all want a wipe? not because you are those who will get skills and items back faster than others and will than be able to rule them, huh?

Charwipes also kill characters.

Galim...my best char ever, i had to let him die because it was never again the same to play him after the wipe. He became no fun anymore. The wipe destroyed that role.

and until today i am angry and sad about that

Why would he change because of a whipe? That's my question, exept for Items and skills what really changes?

Galim was known as a great priest, good merchant and a master craftmen. After the wipe everything changed. Galim couldn't do anymore any of the wounders he did before the wipe. And he had to ask Durin how he can melt iron, and smith...
All that was left was his fame from before the wipe. Even his friends, those he liked, were gone. Galim was a char alone under strangers, having a high fame and well known name, but not the possibility to be anymore what the peoples were thinking and talking about him

What was the reason for the first wipe?

I like the sound of a charwipe, but it looks like it would cause problems. I don't know. I'm no expert. Either way, I would probaly continue to play.

Im sorry but ive been around when there was easy skills, and the roleplay was horrible ;)

And there was constant wars because everyone was strong and everyone had tons of armor and potion.

Fact.
