I don't really have the time to read everything right now, but I will reply to an aspect of Misjie's post.
Indeed, almost everyone sells to npcs just because it takes less time.
And that's quite annoying.
But that goes with: Everyone can earn money easy, and everyone is very quickly able to buy some pretty good items. Who'd buy bad stuff if they could buy good without spending to much more?

You sheeh me? Ha! Solumn learn understand under Hu'greu both smith and carpentry. But who teach Dusty all of his skills? In real medieval, how many professions can you actually learn? You must study under a master since a boy, after years of experience until master approve. Use asks in game again, after I've seen your character, I thought the person who behind might be different and interest. But no, you are just like others.
I talk about not only how to teach to begin your profession but how to make each craft. How many times have I seen you alone? You learn on your own. Do you really think that is possible? You learn to craft various items in various skills without instruction of a master? That is why I think the game does not do well in here. Because us just don't let master and apprentice work, if you have something new in your craft menu, you should ask your master how to make it, to RP your master teach you. Mage play well here but craftsmen, I say Sheesh. If master can't make a craft you can because skill (Not all master are good) does that stop you make that craft to sell? No. On your own. If a master absence, you can't learn it, can you? But does it stop any of you to craft to learn? Mage and druid are the best in teaching because runes and potions are secret, combat fighters is fair yet still there are those don't look at their skill bar when they RP. Craft is not the worst but we make so.
How can I end out "ask in-game" because of you? Since all of you throw in powergameing the "usual". In real life, with experience and skill will get you make unique creation of your own. But this own in game is bit far out! I ain't talk about RP combat shouldn't be allowed. But it should consist with his combat skill. Because technically dark blue is zero combat skill. Person has no knowledge of swordsmanship yet yield a sword like "#me swiftly swing on XXX's head". You don't see that mix up, wow, and then I give up. I compare crafting and combat. How many of you learn combat? Oh, not many. You just learn on own and return to become master swordsman. If a game change into only master teach then apprentice can craft, or people give up this study on their own in their craft. Then I say my request is bit far out.
You Dusty keep press about real life, the medieval life. Yet your character does not follow. I already see through, you craft something that may be sold to anyone but it may take longer process. That is why you practice all of skills. You have to sell all of staves then proceed next level. However such process takes long time (Not many newbie buy low-level products). Meanwhile you practice other craft to sell. In such cycle, it is smart way to earn money yet but it does not apply to real medieval life. Yes, Dusty is indeed multi-talented. Yet do you really think that is realistic? How many goldsmith do glassblowing, carpentry, alchemy, tailoring? I explain my action to toss crappy crafts away is not unrealistic because both of life (don't say I haven't done it) and game. You craft a sword that does not look straight yet you want to sell to whom? A blind man? NPC buy everything until it runs out of cash is bit ridiculous. A shoe is wide open in front still can be sold to a peasant? A badly sew I can understand, but why do you want to wear something don't even keep you warm. Game? I already explained above; because of many of us does much of our own thing. Even if a smith keeps everything he keeps in storage, they all can rot away. Yet in game we have to keep them in our depot to use all of your space. Power gaming is keep “press buttons” without interaction with other characters. By trying to make something new is power game then all of you are. Don’t tell me by know other craftsmen in your profession can something that you can’t won’t motivate you want to learn that craft. In such process, you make many “useless” products and you have to keep them? I don’t intend to convince to change entire craft system and I bet GM will hate that. I just ask for a little adjustment. (About simply give dye away is not what a sane person do either, what happened if you knew someone give free staff away? If I can’t use it and no one can.) What makes you think Solumn is a character will sell products that can benefit others. Has ever it occur to you that Solumn maybe just don’t want much dye clothe in the market? And he is just looking for something? (Don’t say why he choose to become craftsmen at the first place, I won’t tell you what is in hid mind)

Dying in my opinion is best way to practice alchemy if they allow us recycle the buckets without the cloth. Brewing is terrible, you have to run around to pick fruits while you can farm most of ingredient for dying.
So you do in fact have an alternative to dying? Theres a npc who buys all brews. So you take dying - easy to get materials to make hard to sell, or brewing -hard to get materials easy to sell.

Solumn,
Nothing personal, but you are starting to Slander Dusty without knowing who he is or how he got where he is. I don't think that is fair, I don't slander your character.
I am having trouble following your logic, and despite my urge to react to it, I won't. I think my part in this conversation is over. You simply want an "Easy" way to practice Alchemy (Your own admission), and thereby justify powergaming.
I just wanted to explain why it's a bad idea, why a craftsman wouldn't just 'throw' away anything, even the bad things, and also using Dusty as an example, why there are plenty of ways to get where you want to go without having to Dye.
I think you are angry about something, and there's no point in talking about this further.
