Just because Microsoft paid out doesn't mean he had a chance in court. Often it's the case that going to court is more expensive than just greasing some palms. Not to mention that when people settle out of court we, the public, have no idea what went on in those backroom meetings.

But that is not enough!
We make no money with this page, and so no money with the pictures. Copyright doesn't affect us, since it is no commercial use! We have the pictures because we like them, and like the artists work who set them online. we honour the artist with using his pictures for our chars.
And as long as we earn no money with it, it is no break of the copyright. damn, we even make advertising for the artist with using the pictures. that is even good for him!

Not in any legal sense, she's not.
Because the artist has a right to charge people for the use of their work, they can sue on the basis that you're using it for free.

Even if there is no legal standing, its best just to take precautions until this is settle. We don't want to bankrupt another human being.

I asked that, and it has not been answered. I would assume so, though.

Especially for the onlinelist, I assume.
Here you only have small forum avatars. But there we have the full pictures. So yes. If I would be an artist who cares about those things, I wouldn't mind a forum avatar at all. But the whole in the online list.. uhm.

I'm keeping my avatar.
Stupid ignorant pigs can bitch at me themselves if they are so pridefull of their orc picture. I don't even know where this came from.

I believe that one came up in voting for the new Kl'urk picture.
"To smash or not to smash."
Or was it another?

That has nothing to do with where the violation is. The violation is in that you are using something that belongs to someone else.

Actually in all honesty to think some artist is going to take all of us to court is ludicrous, common sense would tell you that most people would never even find this forum.

ok if you want to carry the risk to pay more than 1000 € if someone thinks to punish us because of copyrights. i dont like the deaktivation two. But currently the illarion EV risks his ass for your ignorance and this risk is to large.
You can say "i dont change mine" but you carry no risk. The whole Illarion project can come to an end if we get sued.

I cant believe this is an issue. Are people really sueing because of avatars? -.-'
This world is a twisted and gnarled place.

but that is the only reason why alatar wants to deactivate the avatars. We have to wait until the legal position is cleared out.
