Hmm, I'm seeing a lot of RP potential with this taking over towns stuff... Mercenaries Guild anyone?

taking over towns is easily done. look how stephen took over without having to fight anyone.
Here is the problem, no one wants to be a citizen of Trolls Bane. They just want to live in their own world, use up the materials in Trolls Bane and then make money/train/do whatever. It is MY job as current leader of Trolls Bane to make people WANT to be citizens, WANT to be apart of Trolls bane so the atmosphere in Trolls Bane is less just a noobie stop off area and more of a roleplay active area.
Just look at roleplay in other cities and then Trolls Bane. When a character is in Varshikar it has a reason, it has a purpose, it is doing something. When a character (for the most part) is in Trolls Bane it has no reason except to head to the temple ruins and make coins and do it over and over again.
I hope that I can change this by making the community of Trolls Bane more tightly knit, more drawn together. Yes buildings WILL be made yes the walls WILL be expanded; I simply will not accept a 'no'.
When enough people live in Trolls Bane, when housing is at it's maximum/when the other towns offer the citizens something other then hard work and little pay off then people will live there. Til then it will remain the same, Trolls Bane and Silverbrand as the only places where people actively live / roleplay in.

I beleive you mean it's Stephans Job.
I don't know if we can or can't. We could use it to further populate the map, however the community doesn't take well to new folk, especially in large doses.
Don't worry, if there's a recent growth in numers (I haven't noticed) it will fade. Illarion Fluxuates, especially among player numbers. They seem to come in waves, and, just as Darwin would suggest, only the strong survive. But when a wave is too large, some of the nearby objects get washed away (Didn't that happen to Pendar?)

Pendar got tired of the Lack of GM knowledge of what occurs ingame; lack of interesting roleplay; lack of overall friendlyness of illarion; lack of overall events ingame.

Funny. There are a ton more reasons to leave than those.

The problem with a large community is lack of fame or recognition
Before almost everyone knew ELiron as being a vegetarian or a carpenter...
Now few people know others... its getting too impersonal, damaging the RP...

We need a big event. One that'll force the mighty warriors to retreat. Then we could get to know each other and work together and have some really great RP. How about it Gms, another big event?

we are doing fine, there are plenty of individuals. Your just not ingame enough Hadrian

Pfft, I havn't seen an event for a month
Gm that is

by Garett Gwenour
well of course not .. we only have like 3 current GMs right now. but that is what illarion always has been and always will be I suppose. the GMs have given up on knowing what goes on around ingame and so they cannot really make an event moving along with the "plot" characters ingame are making unless characters contact GMs and fill them in.
Illarion is a mainly player driven game, which with more players will be far better.

No. The entire GM staff are always aware of the latest cliché de jour in Illarion. Blame the ESQS if there aren't enough events going on for you. Questing has been placed entirely in their hands, rendering the remaining GMs as administrative, account and player management types.

ESQS is always open to suggestions for quests, and if someone would volunteer to give us a summary of ingame plots that they think should be included in quests, we would gratefully accept it and do our best to work it in. You can PM this information to anyone in ESQS, including myself.
Thanks,
Devrah

No, no, and no. No to all those things. Thats ridiculous, the community needs to grow and the larger it gets the more RP opportunities there are. You'll just need to do more (than being a vegetarian oooooh) to be recognized, and not everyone can be famous or recognized by the majority anyway. There was a time not too long ago (before the wipe) when the community was actually bigger than it is now and it was so much better. If you want a secluded cliquish game then go start one yourself and you can play with yourself. Otherwise enjoy the benefits of playing with an ever-growing community and make the most of the diversity and uniqueness this game has to offer.

1) Discussions =/= Flaming.
2) I didn't mean it THAT way... I meant this, before some peopel were actually "famous", even if they weren;t anyone special as such.
In the old times , who wouldn't have heard of:
Shandariel
Thalodos
Sylathen
Callith
Faladron
Galim
Misjbar
Ko'
K'urg
et cetera
Added: Right now, Kargurk has perma killed, when either of these famous peopel did it, it was something important... nowadays, its not any more.
Now who's famous? Rothman, because of the heavy posting in the Boards (about him)... no-one 'unimportant' is famous any more... (No offense to the rest of you guys)

Ok not OLD times.. the times when the 20 people online meant a quest...kind of old...
Not THAT old.

It is very easy to make a popular character. I have managed to make three characters on this account that managed to cause serious trouble.
Jacob Kent
Damien Connelly (pre wipe)
Stephen Rothman
Just about everyone has heard/ seen those characters. I am not that smart/good at roleplaying. Anyone can make a very well known character if you firstly think of an interesting plot/are fun to be around/don't sound overly obnoxious and are likeable.
And furthermore Stephen was famous prior to all the postings. And I think HAdrian you are missing a lot of people. I wont name everyone but there are a lot of people who are of course well known and respected / feared.
You don't have to be a governor of a city/evil warrior to be well known. I think Orren Padrick has successfully made his character well known by playing an average person

Owing to the fact that its 1 am here... my brain isn;t working...
I know there are/were more famous people:
Devrah
Kamik
The old elders
et cetera
-
Jacob? I remember something...

don't know Damien, but I remeber Jacob.
I think it would be a slight problem, but why are we thinking about this?
say Illarion DID get that popular, what are we going to do? kick people off? and if you can't do anything about it, why do you keep thinking about? and it wuoldn't be a problem anyways.

I love Devrah and Kamik but they aren't old characters.
I remember looking at a lists around the time when I first started playing that looked something like this daily (off the top of my head):
Athian
Irania
Galim
Alora
Azira
Zarah
Aristeaus
Vallithaesirr
Damien
Gannon
Brendon Mason
Hermie
Fooser
Carahawen
Misjbar
Hagen von Rabenfeld
Gwynnether
Nedor von Largon
Adano Eles
Drathe
Delakaniam
Gordon Fisk
Avrillon
Sevious Helios
Gurik Elvenstar
Cedric Kilmar
Tialdin
Caranthir
Ezor Edwickton
Deies Eldermoore
Alveran
Aryllis
Kaja Wolfagen
Grunith
Veralion
Arkadia Misella
Loki
Nyntar Beliothiel
Belegi
Darlok
Allerus
Avrillon
Willum
Josefine
Jori
(sorry if I misspelled anything or didn't write whole names, its all from memory and I'm tired... I just was making a point)
....and so many others (that my frazzled mind doesn't remember at this second
) at different times during the day! There were so many that played this game and all of them hold a degree of recognition. Your point, Hadrian, as I see it has no validity. In a place where two hundred people play you have to do something big or know a lot of people to be remembered. But in a game where 20 people play everyone knows everyone and so no one is really famous for something, they're just there. It would mean more to be recognized by a large population for doing something or being something noteworthy, because it takes a lot. Twenty people knowing who you are for being an average joe isn't famous its boring.
