I think most players were online at the event to end the big drought. I wasn't there that day but I believe it was a bunch of quests several groups of people had to do.
Another event with many players was the attack of the horde.

That was the 80 players event.

if I remember, there were more players back then than now.

I though I"ve seen 63 at one point in time when the spirits were there during the drought, but it froze and some people (like me) didn't go back on.
