the last quest i have seen was for my opinon to fantastic.
...a great golden ship some "endlesspowerfull" mages how call them self so powerful as gods.....
I agree, although I m enjoying the "Ardon's Goblet" quest, but in my opinion such fantastic things happen far too often: something falls from the sky almost every two weeks, and in the meantime some endless powerful demon appears
I would like quests to be more "indigenous" i.e. without gods, demon kings etc. takeing part, not that often at least. (The bandits could unite under a new leader and start frequent attacks on "weaker" cities like greenbriar and its inhabitans could call for help...
A notorius thief guild could try to get established in trollsbane...
Something could make the ogre tribes move west towards varshikar...
The dwarfes could awake something (maybe also endless powerfull )down in Silverbrand while mining for treasure...)

You do know this is rather "stolen" do you? (anyone remember the small writer named Tolkien? Anyone remember his part about the Balrog of Moria? )
I wouldn't say that. I could just as well claim that Tolkien was ripping off the myth of the Tower of Babel, because both concepts have the same premise:
' Gluttony leads to self-destruction '
It would be ridiculous to go around introducing to everyone, as well as a waste of our time. GM NPCs will only introduce to those they have met directly.
That demon was just like any other monster in the game-server controlled.
How come GM - Spawned monsters are so fast? While Joshua had an elf kidnapped, a troll (i thought was a GM) came up and started to attack us. I tried to run away but it was going at very alarming speeds.
And when the Gerard person spawned that demon, it was the fastest damn thing i have seen on the game (and quiet fat aswell).
Edit: The monsters (as far as the troll goes) seems to be much stronger then the regular ones.
Maybe I'm wrong, but the gm-spawned monsters probably seem faster, for a few reasons.
the monsters that are summoned are usually very powerful monsters. They might have higher stats naturally.
WHen gm-spawned monsters are summoned, its usually in the middle of many people who are standing around central quest areas. that means the monsters have targets available everywhere. This makes it seems like they attack more immediately.
Sometimes when Gms appear ingame as demons, monsters etc, they are fully in control of movement. Gm-controlled monsters are not "programmed" to rush forward and attack a target. They are more rp-controlled
Maybe you run too slow
Ziel Oden wrote:And when the Gerard person spawned that demon, it was the fastest damn thing i have seen on the game (and quiet fat aswell).
remember..10,000 pound elephants can usually run at about 24 mph, which is close to maximum human speed. Full-Grown grizzly bears who can weigh over several hundred pounds can run at 35 mph. And don't forget that this demon has much longer legs
Seems pretty clear, except that the troll came from the bottem of the screen and at 2x the speed i was going. When i came back to the area for diffrent reasons, the troll was hidden by the wall, thus excluding GM controled.
Your characters movement speed is not set, it depends on your aggility, if you have low agil, you do not move fast, also the more encumbred you are the slower you move.
I see and hear mixed things about this last quest of Adron's Goblet. Some have said they hated it, but we still somehow hit a peak of 30 players online at the time of the finale today, the highest number in at least a month. Or maybe this isn't related to the quest, though I still saw an awful lot of people in town for it?
I was only curious.... because I've heard wide varieties of things about it!! There have been some who loved it, to those who were absolutely pissed. Just in my opinion, I really liked it, and liked certain plot plays of it. There were steps to it, with the occasional questing-for-stuff here and there. Not to mention a great bit of creative roleplay, player and non-player alike. But I feel like I hear a lot of sighs about how the player involvement was low... which I really didn't think was true, and if it was, it was really never limited to be that way. What the hell is going on ?
If you want players to respond to something... you need to either go where the players are, or give the players some hint of where to go. A single directionless shout heard in the middle of town isn't much to go on... and after a good 20 minutes of roaming the town looking for the source, and finding no other evidence of anything going on, people have a tendency to give up.
This current quest is just ... too weak.
The lich Drahken has returned, but nothing has happened that will make me play Stephen as caring or frightened about it. Stephen has just dealt with a demi-god that had goons stronger then the lich's entire army. At this point Stephen sees Drahken as a joke, nothing to be feared of as the island has seen far worse recently. Drahken can only summon some five skeletons at a time ..? Or rot worms that are no where near as strong as they were in the old client, they are nothing to plunge yourself into a state of panic over.
When Stephen first heard of the lich's return he thought of building a united island to face the lich's worst, but all Drahken has done is summoned things Stephen could beat alone with no potions. I am really dissapointed with the direction this quest is going, it seemed a good idea to have Drahken abduct the leader of Trolls bane, Pendar Fayed, but then he is released for no reason? There could have been a fun roleplay of Pendar being held prisoner, trying to save him, I am sure the player of Pendar wanted to roleplay something as he was stuck on Drahken's isle, Pendar awakening in Trolls Bane makes no sense.
And sure, trying to have people become Moshran Knights, that is a good idea, to bring players into it, but don't just offer this to characters who you know won't accept it. I would have liked the idea better if this quest involved the Synode and other factions so they had things to do. As it makes no sense that the Lich got into this realm alone.
This quest seemed like it could be something good, even tho it was far to close to the end of the Gerard quest, but now it just seems like we are running out of new ideas ... I mean, Drahken .... Yes! He has only been killed a half dozen times, lets bring him back one more time !
Always, when he appeared, it had something to do with Aragon and a quest around him. Strange things happened (That no one cared about), then he appeared, and wanted to talk to Aragon and after that a large army of undeads came up, that was defeated. After this, he disappeared until the next year.
He's no really arch-enemy, I see him more like an old frail man who can't walk without his staff and gabbles cryptic and stupid things about world's end; just to be killed by the townsfolk again.

But Stephen is right. The monsters ARE weak. A rotworm, beholder, even a dragon is nothing than a joke when fighting against a middleclass warrior. the strongest monsters on the isle are skeletons and ogres with warhammers. And even them can be beaten easily by a good fighter. and that alone.
I fought yesterday against a rotworm which used a doubleaxe. it don't even scratched me. and my char hasn't really uberskills. he is below master, not even close to that rank.
Some monsters, especially rotworms, beholders and dragons, need a upgrade of their strength. or they will be just a joke and no seriosly threat.
I still wonder how the rotworm was able to land in the mummycave o_O. And It wouldn't wonder me when still some skeletons would walk around ^_^. Don't think we got all of them.
The rotworm appeared after some ominous sounds out of a - yes you guessed right! - flame... nearly killed my little wimp warrior look alike but I managed to run... if I would've #me'd some actions I would've been clouded now >.>
Well, I don't mind the monster strength, because it gives players whose characters are just starting to develop as fighters a chance to get in on the action, too.. However, I do dislike that the majority (not all, but the majority) of quests are catered towards warrior characters... I mean, we have all these rules in place to prevent powergaming (And the people that support these rules are usually the most PG'd players, but we won't get into that here), and meanwhile these quests are designed to give glory to the strongest fighter. It's old hat for the PG'd warriors and all the experienced fighters, and it's no fun for newbies or non-fighteing characters, because they simply don't have the weapons skills (or even the will to weild weapons).
I guess what I am saying is two things; One, we need more quests that involve solving logic puzzles, or committing acts of kindness for an old lady, or whatever.
And, two: Be more realistic with it, players! I sincerely doubt that a hardened warrior would care about, say, a pathetic little old goblin's camp burning down. However, I have seen people OOC that they recognize a character number as being a GM char, and they start following it around for no RP reason. This sucks, because what happens is that even when there is a quest that does not cater to warriors, the warriors still play the main roles becaseu they've been following the GM char around hoping for some skeletons or an artifact or something.
Oh, and third, a sidenote: I see no point to the skillcap. Those who want to have found a way around it. All it does is keep the newbies and the people who don't want to cheat from ever gaining skill as fast as everyone else.
I agree with Devrah, I remember similar conversations about this before. Everyone, especially staff, preach against powergaming, then they promote it all the time through quests, items and other incentives. So far, all of the quests I have personally seen since the wipe have involved some kind of fighting.
I see no point to the skillcap. Those who want to have found a way around it.
There is no way around the skill cap and any one who says they have is either confused, lieing or simply logging in skilling up logging of and waiting for 4+ hours.
Brian
people talk about all the strong people to be PG'd. Its been what? 5 months now? Training once every day since the wipe should've gotten someone to max out there fighitng skills by now shouldnt it?
And no one ingame is anywhere close to being a master in any fighitng skill
Just because people are stronger than you doesnt mean they maxed out all they're fighitng skills. I would've expected someone to max out a crafting skill or fighting skill by now, its been a while since the wipe
and there have been quests for non warriors, making the potion? That wasnt warrior oriented, except for the wasp stingers. THe story telling one with the goblin was for bards, none showed up

Sadly, maybe fighting is the only way GM's can get people around.
And to take it a step further, the skill cap has eliminated direct PGing, but anyone who knows any decent amount about the cap and skill raising systems technically has PG tendancies. Unless you were a staff member, why should you care?
fighitng for 5 minutes and hitting the cap and then wandering around looking for people to RP with (half the time doesnt happen) and then logging off and coming back 4 hours later to fight another five minutes is NOT powergaming
Salathe wrote:fighitng for 5 minutes and hitting the cap and then wandering around looking for people to RP with (half the time doesnt happen) and then logging off and coming back 4 hours later to fight another five minutes is NOT powergaming
Actually, it could be considered that, depending on how you interpret the definition. Trying to gain skill in the quickest amount of time with no RP sense. If your motivation to stay in game is to get the cap to run down, then there is a problem.
well i said you go and look for people to RP with, but usually thats hard, it happens, but its alot more common to walk around town to find absolutely no one to talk to, than to find a good activity to join into
