1) Well, the character deserves it for having a crappy sword
2) Fighting is usually fast, with lots of shoving and trying to get the upper hand. You forget that sometimes a simple trip or a shove will make your enemy helpess.
3) Not slashing swords, buddy. Notice how the edged weapons skill increases when using swords? Yeah, this is because the sword in Illarion are heavier slashing swords.

1) +3) A sword isn't that thin. And it is made of solid steel. A sword can withstand a lot more then you might think. Sure, I wouldn't try this with a rapier or some other kind of light duelling weapon, but a good sword, or even a broadsword doesn't break that easily.
2) Of course you will have to wait for the right moment. A weapon or shield has some weight, and hence it will need a second or two for someone to get into position after you deflect his blow. If he's wearing heavy armor then it's even worse.

(physics lesson)... pressure = Force / S. Area... therefore a sword twice as thin, will cut twice as fast... i'm talking about the thickness of the blade itself... a broadsword has the same thinkness....

I've had enough physics lessons in university.
Enough to know how sturdy a well made sword is.

Hadrian, you know nothing of swords, or weapons in general. You know even less than I. Please stop trying to justify your idea with the same reduntant arguements.

Please do not start arguments in this section...
Why do you think swords break???
And how would you know that i know nothing of swords or weapons in general?

Because you just stated that all swords are weak and will snap. They will not. The only reason weapons break so easily is because of bad craftsmanship, and the desire by the GMs to make people replace their equipment often.

I own a real 3.5ft Long Sword, and I just measured the flat of the blade, and it is an inch and a half thick, that metal is not going to be bent or broken easily by being pushed into someone.

But does the sword itself cut??? i had a few swords, but they are all quite thick and none of them cut anything... not even if you rub against them....

Thats because you need to sharpen them.

Decorative swords are not only not sharpened, they often even have rounded blades to avoid cutting.

When you sharpen the sword, you are making the edge thinner, and that makes it more sharp... in general, a sharper edge will break faster

You only make part of it thinner, yes swords break, but they will not break because you pushed someone with the flat edge.

The edge is sharpened. But that does not make the entire blade break more easily.

When the edge is sharpened, generally only the edge is damaged, resulting in the need to sharpen it again.

So that means y'll need a free hand... back to square one

Knee in the groin, swift kick in the shins, spin-on-a-heel-and-slam-with-an-elbow, yaddi, yadda.
Let's just agree on something. It's possible to "push" people if you have something in your hands: Think of someone running into you and trying to ram a wooden log into your belly. If you don't dodge that, you will be "pushed".
Can we also agree that it should be:
a) easily possible to push yourself (against the bug)
b) possible to push others depending on game stats
c) impossible to perform impossible feats with pushing?

So .: you can push people when you simply attack with a pole.... good idea.. [hope i didn't mis-understand]
A) push yrself... i tried but couldn't... dont worry,,, push yrself has led to abuse though, acessing areas blocked by tables on purpose
B) Hope it will be implemented
C) It would be connected to B... however insects are light, and i wouldn't think i'd push them....

Correct. A row of soldiers wielding halberds of even only staves could easily control the walls of a rioting crowd. Even a row wielding swords would work, because hell, only few people want to plunge themselves into a sword.
a) I always considered the "pushing yourself" to be "jumping" (I used it more than actual pushing, and
not just in combat), it was slow for everybody, but everybody could do it. As for areas not meant to be accessible, that's for the map design, not for the ergonomy dept.
b) me too
c) right, I agree, pushing a horde of flies is silly. Or pushing a towering hulk of an ogre, or pushing, fate forbid, a demon. Generally speaking, maybe pushing monsters altogether is worth removing; monsters are gross. I have trouble imagining people without the proper Willpower would even dare or survive trying, except maybe with a skeleton.
