the reason is simple, read over your post...type slower and surer and you will recive less errors. and PLEASE spell YOU its only TWO MORE LETTERS.....makes you look like a mature responsible person to....
oh, and I am at PG7 now, and this is my SECOND major writing project, EVER.
If you are an RPer, you must have knowledge of the genre, and being able to type 5pages worth of RP conversation is equivelent to a 5pg story.

I firmly believe the people will decide whether their story will be long or short. Spelling, Grammar check, and "looking mature" and responcible can be done to writtings that is in any length.
Not everyone enjoy or wish to do a english/grammar project for a game. A story isnt about showing off your grammar skills anyhow. Its part of Role playing. The email-appro. system will be put up and people will have to make stories for their Roleplaying uses. But again, writing 5 pages isnt proven to show how much knowledge you have, or what you know about roleplaying. Plus those can be explained in one senctence. If you wish to record ones conversation from the adventures in the game, that would be a journal, and again, a novel of your characters journey, so those you have met can be added ect. But if you are new to the game, you never played this game before. They can only explain their past, of how they come, or make up things as they go along, which should be no problem, but forcing them to create a project can be conflicting and less appealing (and already it can be passed 5 pages, let them carry on, and if it isnt, it still should be fine, one shouldnt judge on the length of the paper). The GMs you send the "stories" to will be a lot slower reading threw everyones 5+ pages of stories, and it can still be 5+ pages of junk.
2 sides to everything....
a short story could mean its bad, and could mean its good, its short, so you can either make it as good as possible, or slop something down.
In a long story, one can revise and read over and realize something is wrong, or they can just be glad its over with, and still be a BUNCH of slop.
5 pages will not solve anything. Let them choose THEIR apropriate length, and let them decide how and what to write about and then be judged.

I agree. If one is able to write a long and interesting story, why not? But the ability to write stories doesn´t say anything about your RP-ability... Sure, to get a good and fitting story you must read at least the background on
http://www.moonsilver.de but that doesn´t make a bulletproof RPer out of you.
RP is interaction, not telling people neverending stories. React to what happens actually in the game, with your background/story in mind. Make your character somehow alive, not depending on a plot you once wrote in a story. Basics are a must, but your character is changing like you are changing every day in RL. Moods, emotions, they all have their basics in the background of your character but are also a mixture of what happens now and probably in the future.
Me personally likes reading stories of one´s character and like writing them (:P sorry, they´re in german), but stories aren´t a must for good RP.
P.s.: The thing with the url doesn´t work... sorry

It's all very simple. A good roleplayer (which is like an actor) is not neccesarrily a good story writer, and vice versa. Roleplaying and storywriting is not the same thing, despite what mannelig will keep thinking. Whether or not you have the ability to write a 5 page story. You will never be asked to write a 5 page story to play Illarion. It's not going to happen no matter how much mannelig wants it because it's obviously not neccesary, so there's no need to worry about it.

*sighs and wonders when people will finally stop nagging about the five-pages-autobiography idea that will never happen in the first place*

"hmmm, you wrote almost one page in 12 font, in 14 it would be ove rone page, and thats just a post......mayhaps if you APPLY yourself you can write a good story that is 5pages

accually, that was only half a page, if you print it on out my word pro.
12 font. (and turning it to 14 doesnt double the size either)
Regardless of how much you can write, 1 page, 5 page, 10 page, 100 pages (for everyone can--- APPLY as you said, it), it still, can be junk, and one still can send a story will plenty of errors. You need to make a proper backround story, which doesnt have to be 5+ pages. Main idea is writting 5+ pages only shows you can write long. Shows nothing about knowledge, grammar ect..... until in reads it... and knowledge and grammer can show just as great in a one page story. Bottem point, let the people decide how they wish to write it.... then you do see (or get a idea) of what their knowledge of writing is.
PS. another thing, even if this game is for.... 16 year old+ ?
there will be younger people here too, also people from other countries, and yes, english and german will be their, 2nd, 3rd, heck even 4th language, so 5+ pages will pose a conflicting and unapealing look, and if they go on, its going to be a problem.
Role Playing Game vs English Project..... look at that carefully and you see what the problem is.
