You put money on your paypal-account (free of charge, per transfer), send it to anybody in another country (2,5% exchange fee between currencies, else free) and the other one can transfer it back to his home-account (transfer, may cost something, see below).
The fees to transfer it onto your home-account (paypal->you):
All EURO-countries: €1.00 (except Germany: free, I heard only until end 2004)
Danmark: 5.00 DKK
Great Britain: free (over £50 tranfer volume); £0.25 (<£50 transfer volume)
Hongkong: $3.50 HKD
Japan ¥500
Canada $0.50 CAD
Mexico 20.00 MXN
Newsealand $1.00 NZD
Norway 5.50 NOK
Sweden 7.00 SEK
Switzerland 0.50 CHF
Singapour $1.00 SGD
South Korea 1,500 KRW
Taiwan 35 TWD
USA free
Don't ask me how they earn money in Germany or the USA if a customer only transfers through his country.

I had the same response whilst using Hotmail, but sending through Yahoo seemed to be fine

I remember an issue from a completely different site where people couldn't use hotmail-accounts for registering, because the respective server classified hotmail as spam. I suppose any other account should work.

I have yet to receive a return and I use a free hotmail account.

Danke.
Martin
Until now, the promissed donations received by the e-mail-adress we have given to you stay clearly behind our expectation. Given the money we would receive as donation, we would probably not be able to buy new, improved server hardware.
We did not get any new e-mails for a couple of days now.
In case you simply forgot to mail, please do that as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Martin

Come on, people, gather up!
Don't we want troubleshooting and speed? Don't we want Illarion to run better?
Actually, maybe staff will solve this Win XP Service Pack 2 kick out issue? Maybe the new hardware will react to SP2 better? Actually, they should try running Illarion on an XP server that has SP2 on it. Hopefully, there will be updates to it.

i guess the xp2 issue will rather be solved with the new client... (which is still unfinished though)
if the issue is really the client it propably won't be fixed before the newclient is released.

How far behind are we? A little or a lot.

Less than 1/2 of what we expected.

I tested my hotmail-account.
I got a return message telling me the mail was undeliverable.

For the XP SP2 throwout :
Use a different firewall and deactivate the windows one. Could work.
After installing SP2, i re-installed ZoneAlarm, shut off the Windows thingy, and never had any problem with illa.

Charge 2 Euro's per char to everyone, seriously, we're in the 70k's now,
IMAGINE THAT! I'd like to see how a 140,000 Euro server performs.
Or just charge until you have the cash and there you go.

Or, just donate what you can.
Not everybody's equally wealthy, and I'm sure everybody's happy that they were able to play all this time for free. If not, to whomever this may concern, you are pretty dam' unthankful. A new server? Hell yeah. I'd like to know that the staff is in complete control of the technical aspects of the game. What, you'd prefer having to sign up for something, do extra regular paperwork concerning monthly fees and such to play a game online where you're confronted with people "LOL"-ing and "(:"-ing you to death?
Other things to think of:
A normal game comes with a retail price. Other than online games, you normally pay, let's say, 40$ for a game, depending on which country you bought it in. One time-pay, and you're set for as much fun as you can get out of the game.
My point—I've had more fun with illa than with any other game.
This game, so far, was definitely worth more than 40$. Far more.
I'd even say you could multiply the number.
But in any case, considering how many people play illa, and that the donations for the decent price range of this new server are 1/2 behind the expectations in amount (!), I'm pretty disappointed. I mean, it's really a typical thing you see everyday. If you don't go billing people to their houses and asking them officially to pay, they simply won't. And I'm quite positive I'm on the poorer half of the player community here, judging from certain statements and comments I read every now and then.
And mind you, after all that, I'm not even a staff-member.
Anyhow, that's my 2 cents.

Yes, that's what we think, too.
Plus: Donate what you want. We do not force anyone to give us money.
Just to mention that: We, the staff, surely donate as well.

I'd gladly donate, but at the moment I can't even pay for all the repairs that needed to be done on my car...

I find myself in a similar situation as Adano. I'd love to help Illarion, but I'm currently in debt. If only you could have gotten to me before the collection agency.
In any case, I'm still trying to figure out a way that I could afford to help Illarion and we shall see.

I am on dial-up, Damien, I don't even have the option to disable firewall, because the panel is not accessible.

I'm still in my teens (!) and living at home (and thus have a very small amount of income for myself), seeing as I'll only be playing Illarion for a few more months before I depart for college, I think I'll refrain from paying until my last few weeks or so. You can consider it a going away present on my behalf.
Also...I still have the payment details from the Illarion t-shirt I bought. The details are belonging to one Dirk Blasing-would I be able to donate through the same method that I payed this person?

Just a suggestion....it might be an idea to put a message about donations on the homepage. Might be seen by more people and get some more money. Just a thought.

We will try to offer as many ways as possible to transfer the money to us.
As some know, on the rl-meeting this weekend, a society was founded "Illarion e.V." to have a legitim base to get money and to handle the rights on the server and the codes. This society needs to be registered at the court. After that, we can open a bank-account for the society and install ways to transfer money there.
In the momemt, we have offers about 1700 Euro. Not enough yet.

Don't ask me how they earn money in Germany or the USA if a customer only transfers through his country.
All businesses have to pay to make transactions using PayPal.
If you guys happen to get set up with PayPal then I'll definitely help out. It's not difficult (If you don't know that already) and they can even contact you if someone requests it.

@Konstantin :
Click on "connect with" (or network thingies), then rightclick the dialup connection, properties should be the english word to click.
There, take the last card thingie. A translation from the german word should be "Extended".
There you have the "Windows Firewall". Click on the Button "Settings". There, select "inactive" to deactivate the windows firewall.
Another method would be : System onfiguration -> security center. Select "Windows firewall". Deactivate it.
OR : Start the illarion Client, minimize it with windows button or task manager. Then start the security center in your system configuration. Clik on the rider "Exceptions" (or likewise). Put a hook where "Illarion.exe" or illarion client (or likewise) appears.
Could also help, if you like to use the windows FW.
Be sure to have administrative rights on your computer, else you may not see the options or they will be marked as non-accessable.
Some viruses also cause certain network and dialup options not to show. If even the admin does not find it, do a virus scan with an up-to-date virus scanner.
If you use a firewall program and have the windows FW running at the same time, it's likely to be a problem source, blocking too many ports.
(If you use i.e. telephony programs on a network server base, an active windows firewall is often the problem after SP2 updates.).
I myself use ZoneAlarm, i can configure the access for every program. It works well with Illarion.

I was asked several times in the past few days and in emails when we will start to accept donations.
This is a legal matter. In order to accept donations, we need a bank account to be set up first. This bank account can only be set up for good conditions when we can prove that the society we just founded (but which is not registered yet! Work in progress...) is a non-profit-society. Some lawyers (and other dubious persons

) have to check that first, reading our rules and deciding if they fit their understanding of a non-profit-association. As soon as this is done, will I as treasurer create that bank account, set up PayPal, Western Union and give out the information you need to donate money.
We will accept several different ways of money transfer, you do not need to worry about that.
---
