Athian, do you know what stats are needed for magic usage? I dont mean for good spells, i mean to just learn the rune ;). Im thinking intelligence, willpower, and essence myself, is that right?

I think everyone should take this advice, then there would be 0 players instead of 2, and the Devs wouldn't need to be pissed at all. And then, in our free time, we can go on the forums and call people bitches. Sounds like a blast..

generally thats the idea Ules. there of course are varients. such as spells you'll be able to use, how strong the spell will be etc. but details take a long time PM for those.

I am not complaining about the dev's. I think they did a fine job with the new client. It doesn't bother me the way the distributed magic.

I'm bitching because it feels that these selected few are not exactly making magic what they wanted. Special.

Magic looks like everything but special to me.

And I will take my bad day anywhere I want, thank you.

This magic flinging has been bothering me from day 1 from when I stepped back in. It did not just start tonight.

no no you should efinatly take your problem up with the Dev's Ark. us players didnt' make a door opening spell or a spell to move items closer to oneself. those were made by the Dev's. so if you don't like them, then it's not really something to bring up with the players. simply tell the Dev's that you think such spells are rediclous and you demand they be removed because they don't make magic feel special enough.

have fun.

You have missed the point entirely Athian.

It is not the types of spells.

It is the way they are being used.

spells of such type are meant to be used how? what great cause can you help with a door opening spell or the likes?

some spells are literally there to give magic a bit of a flare, to make it sometimes a bit more visual. there is no greater use for some of the magic except for everyday use. again i say if you see someone standing there opening and closing a door 20 times in the midst of a crowd yea feel free to get pissed and scream and much as you'd want, but i don't think i've seen anyone do that thus far.

Maybe looking at it this way will help. If you had a washing machine (being used to model basic "common" magic) would you do all of your laundry by hand? I highly doubt it. You would use the resources available to you to get the job done more quickly (unless you REALLY like wasting time). On the other hand, would you go buy an industrial sized washing machine (the BIG spells) just to use on yourself and then go and use that all of the time? I doubt that too. Thats just overkill just like using big spells all of the time which mages don't do. They are using what they are given just like any other person would. Truly, what else would you use a door opening spell for than opening a door? Ok, so they use the spells all the time then. Maybe you aren't the type to do that, but the whole world doesn't look at things the same way as you. Each and every person is different and thus has different views of how things should be done. Ok so they're a little arrogant and conceited flaunting magic in front of everyone. That's life, if you complained about every thing that you disagreed with then you would spend your whole life complaining. This is how things are and evidentally your posts don't aren't going to change anything judging from the reactions of what people are saying. I'd advise you to take what you can get and be happy. If people want to be arrogant and conceited then that's their problem, you don't need to do the same thing. Of course I have no right to tell anyone they can't post anymore but I think that people aren't going to care about the complaints that are made. It is what it is and it's advisable to be grateful or what you can have or maybe the Devs will get tired of it all and just scrap the whole magic thing altogether and then NOBODY would be happy. If you wanted, you could go roleplay a character that actively opposes petty uses of magic and try to get them to stop "abusing" their powers. I would think that that might perhaps have more effect than telling them this on the forum, since they obviously won't change from what is said here. There's some advice: take it or leave it, your choice.

EDIT: OMG I just had to say this... YAH THATS MY LONGEST POST EVER :D

Punctuation and the occasional enter might make people actually read it.

I believe what Ark and a few others are trying to say is that the magic system isn't really a problem, it's just that current mages are extremely skill based and immature/irresponsible. From IG behavior and replies in this topic, I would say I have to agree

What would you like us to see and do Fooser?

I mean, a doorspell for instance is only really usefull for throwing the door right into someone's nose as he/she tries to enter exit, or for your convenience. I will not stop from using it daily.

Hmm, I feel like giving my runes away. If someone else thinks they can handle them better, then please, do so. I totally lost the fun and the greatness of using magic.

So far the mages response could easily be used for warriors. A couple of warriors could run around all day wacking at each other with daggers because daggers "aren't that powerful" and could "be used for everyday things"

No I am not envious. I frankly could not care less whether or not I have magic at the moment. I am glad it is just in the game.

The way it is being used is rp wise the mages are being "lazy"

You cannot tell me that every single mage is being RP'ed as lazy.

Misjilah is. She is a snob, to be frank. I have roleplayed her as such since day one, and she rarely even travels.

Samantha is a noble woman. She comes from a rich and noble family. She was raised to be a mage and an aristocrat since she was a little girl. Do you think she stands up and walks to the door to close it? or to the mushroom to take it up?

Samantha is weak and has no constitution. But her magic is strong. She is a book worm. Who don't goes out much. It bettered since she came to the isle, but she is still the person who avoids too much moving or work.

Ah, so it seems there arent that many mages, 2 of them are too lazy to teach or deal with people of lesser birth, and another is a warlock. Indeed, looks like the wait will be long.

Agility 5 <-------------------
Consitution 3 <-------------------
Dexterity 5 <-------------------
Essence 20
Intelligence 20
Perception 9
Strength 4 <-------------------
Willpower 18

I would practically die if you'd look at me, let alone that I would move something on my own without magic.

And Fooser, this is not the reason. Misjilah actually would teach you, hell, she would even teach lizards that farm!
It is more that it will take quite a while before we are even close to being able to teach others the runes. That is the reason the wait will be long. Trust me, the second I can teach, I will teach.

That's not being consistent though, teaching takes an immense amount of time, work, effort, about 500x more than opening a door.

hey Fooser if you can do a better job of it contact a somone in charge and tell them so. maybe they'll listen, but frankly i doubt it. once you have your mage character if you ever want one. play it as you feel it should be played until then it really doesn't matter what you say because as i player of this game, none of really have to listen to your opinions.

i have one student currently and i'm sure you absolutly nothing about the particulars of the character type i teach and why i need to be very careful when selecting students. then again you usually dont' seem to know much of anything in particular before you begin to critize.

i think i and the rest of the people playing magic characters should just continuing rping they way we have been. anyone who doesn't like it, thats fine feel free to leave your compliants right here. they may even be taken into cosideration.

Fooser, there is a difference in the work behind teaching someone and the work that needs moving your body  .

I am sure you will be able to see that, if not...well...than I can't help you.
