Oh, I have a question about this. Could the elves coax the elf living up North into living into Vanima, and not be so careless about what he teaches whom? It is rather silly.

And i think it'd be stupid to have him only teach those the elves deem fit. He was put there so that ANYONE could learn elvish. Im sure there are appropriate npcs in the works for other languages....i think orcish already has one, doesnt it? and besides, he only teaches a bit, ive seen the script, if you dont have a really good intelligence, you arent going to learn squat from him.

Please can somebody check, Mulligan soup, Cabbage stew and meat meals?

can't it be made that the guy ontop the fluffy sheep buys them? he buys copper goblets, cutlery, wooden plates, all those things except the copper plates.

The thing is mister Falco person, have you ever considered that everyone plus their moronic brother can now learn elvish (and does so, may I say). I have frequently seen people whom suddenly understood my elvish, while I do not see them having any reason for knowing it.
Atleast Enwell came to Vanima, and asked the elves if they could teach him elvish. That is a way I would much rather see it.

Yes but language shouldnt be some ancient secret, if anything there should be library books that teach all languages. And btw Ules knew a bunch of langauges before they forced it into a skil l(which i think is stupid btw, it encourages powerlearning rather than good rp, but thats a diff argument), and he wishes to relearn them. he knew them then because he had to, as back on his old continent most other races didnt speak common.

And dont think he was some language god though, he knew some elvish, some orcish, and very little dwarvish (and of course human and common), not a load of everything...

they should all be learned in a book in the library or something, yet it should take a very very very long time to learn, so that you can only learn one if your going to learn at all. that way everyone doesn't know every language perfectly, yet the could if the worked hard enough

well, it should bebased on intelligence for how quick you learn, and willpower for how many you can learn, IMO. so with 18 intelligence and 4 willpower you'd learn one language quickly, and thats it, for example.

Finally found the damned elf, and had to reget all the items he wanted, which took forever with Ules (low perception). It didnt teach him all of elvish though, which is weird, as there's no other way to learn it....

You can't expect to learn a language (esp one as intricate/complex as elvish) in a single day, no matter how much bribing you do On a technical level I think this is supposed to happen, and he is set to teach you just a small amount at first.

Technically he only needs to teach you one skillpoint of the skill "Elven", and you can then start speaking it. The more you speak it, the better you become. How do you think did the mages get their ancient so near-perfect/perfect?

ah, i had heard you dont gain skil lby speaking the languages. And i need to get an ancient book. Probably the best first step for learning magic...

according to the npc elvish is a lot like human . It says something like "You realize that elvish has many common words and roots with your own language" and such while it teaches you .

In order to master languages you have to practice speaking it, that is the only way. Ancient textbook teaches more ancient than the elvish teacher elvish, to get to be able to trade with Elinas is alot of practice but one of my chars can. Especially without spewing alot of useless junk, or offending elves.

You actually do learn it by speaking it lots. Misjilah has nearly mastered the ancient language now by using it over and over again. Thankfully, casting spells helps my ancient too. ^^

Has anyone successfully learned elf ? I have been working on my character learning it for some time and he never gets any better.

I am already able to have conversations in elvish. But my char was also intelligent enough when she learned elvish. I don't try with a char of intelligence 10 or less to learn a language like elvish
