Either anytime between now and the end of this year, or over 6 months later in the next year.

But that's what 3D Realms said about "Duke Nukem Forever", too. ;)

Count the years.

Topic Revival!

I think we can safely assume that the project isn't going to be finished anytime soon, so perhaps some of the shifty testers could provide us with a link to the unfinished version?

Sorry for the unannounced hiatus, but this single player console type rpg project is back in gear once again. As you can see I've set an expected release date to motivate myself to release and to maybe put a conclusion to the project. However, with what has been completed so far, there remains a lot of things I've envisioned that I have not yet had the chance to implement that I desire, both storywise and gamingwise (ex: starting off with generic weapon names to more innovative and original names later in the game, which I haven't gotten to yet).

Therefore, there is a slight desire for me to actually complete the entire game. If I were to do so however, the game would probably not be released for months or more. But this is all purely theoretical, as I don't think I have the time or energy to actually complete the entire game. What I have thus far does end in a fairly satisfactory conclusion though. If I do release it now at the expected date however, there is minimal chance that I will finish the rest, since it would probably require re-releasing the entire complete game, and I don't think people will want to play through the first part again. There's not really that much that remains to be done/tested, so there's actually a chance that I might release this earlier than the expected date. Anyways, I'll leave the rest my thoughts and comments for after the game's release.

By the way, if someone could PM me and tell me the details of where I can find the forum or contact for the UO ascendence shard, or wherever supposed former illarionites went, so that I can go advertise, that would be great. Oh and I still need to find a host, if my old one can't do it, so if anyone has around 30-40MB that they want to lend out to host the game, please let me know.

Anyways, here are some changes/things I've done:
-added/renamed various skills
-balanced out game difficulties/# of encounters/stats as much as I could
-some maps improved and added lighting effects
-more treasure chests to find
-3 extra sidequests in accordance with the Chronicles
-corrected some grammar/spelling mistakes
-added a primitive smithing system
-some characters learn more skills
-fixed a lot of bugs and in the process of testing entire game myself
-some minor changes to events and dialouge
-added a lot more music and theme music for some characters
-possibly planning to release an easy/hard version to meet the needs of beginners and hardcore rpg players.
-plan to write a short strategy guide/walkthrough after release if I have time

At any rate, whoot! the shots, progresses, and features look good. Umm.... sorry if I haven't composed any new music for it in.... the last few months. >.> I swear it's just because I hate the program I have, not because I..... am..... creatively incompetant......umm, I swear!

@falco: As it says on the big banner, the game won't be available until April 11th. When the time comes, a download link will be posted on the boards.

@Returner: Nope, I haven't been back in years and I don't plan to be. This time is no exception. I'm here only to finish Legends Of Illarion.

@Delakaniam: Good luck with your SAT. It's alright that you haven't made any new compositions, but you're free to keep trying before the release deadline if you like and I would still use them. However, with your old pieces, since you still haven't made the modifications with the increased volume, I still can't use them yet.

@Cassandra: Thanks. The game will have both serious and humorous aspects, and a balanced game pace, which I hope will be able to suit a wide range of audiences.

What I have played of the game so far, is amazing. It's a pretty hefty download for 56kers however. It would be smaller, if certain bombastic boss battle MP3s were removed!

@Brendan: Are you kidding!!?? Those bombastic MP3s are my favourite part of the entire game! :P By the way, I like the word "bombastic". However, there IS a possible MP3 compression method I could use if I have time to try it. Plus, I still haven't weeded out the unnecessary default sound/music files, which I will do after I finish testing. So the final file size could be considerably smaller.

@Moaithia: Is it any particluar problem? Because using "pictures" as done in lighting effects can cause some lag with older computers. However, ever since I got my new computer, lag was no longer an issue for me, so I've been using pictures and heavy parallel processes. I might create an option to turn those off if time permits.

@Mothia: Mothia is planned for an elven city which doesn't exist yet at this point in the game. Some of your other characters are in at this point, but not necessarily in a role of significance.

I've been trying out a day/night system in the game where maybe certain people or places would only be available during either day or night (ie tavern), but then I thought the waiting time to go somewhere you want might just annoy beginner players, so that idea's probably going to get scrapped. Ok, maybe I'm just lazy too. I added some pretty background pictures and sound effects though.

I'm pretty much done my run through of the game, balancing exp, gold, difficulty, etc and fixing mistakes. I guess I'm just making minor additions and adjustments now until the deadline date. It always seems like I can add a little something more to make the game better every time I go over something old. Maybe I'll just whistle down the days 'til deadline.

Since there's about a week left until Legends Of Illarion is released, and I just KNOW you're all just killing time now, holding your breath in anticipation, unable to sleep or eat :D , so here's a little something you can do for those of you who haven't already done so. If you're interested in making a little cameo appearance in my game as say a townsperson with a little one-liner like "Welcome to Troll's Bane!", then all you have to do is make your own nifty little game sprite! Yes, even if we've never met before, you can do this.

All you need to do is go to:
http://charas-project.net/index.php?lang=en

Under the title banner where it says Generators, click on charset. Then on the left side, just pick out a face, hair, dress, etc, and see the preview on the right side. Leave the default 'character medium' alone (yes, including dwarves), except for halflings ONLY, who should pick 'character-little'. Then click on 'save image' to get the final picture and then right click the final image and save as PNG. Put it somewhere for me to see, and your character will look just like that in my game! :)

Just like some of these people:
Image

Note:
-The charmaker doesn't actually save your image on the website, so you're going to have to host it somewhere. If you need, try hosting it on http://imageshack.us/

-No weapons/shield items, supernatural add-ons, and preferably no other "hand held" add-ons. You don't want your chars to look out of place holding them in situations like a town festival or something. Other items like hair accesories and such should be okay.

-Not sure if I'm going to use face sets for every character but feel free to make and experiment with them for now.

-Try to pick components with colors that have a little more depth. What I mean is that some of the graphics they provide kind of look like they were just made with a color bucket in a paint program for a NES game.

Come on, people. I KNOW :) you're bored, so go get your custom sprite at:
http://charas-project.net/index.php?lang=en

Just pick your body, face, clothes, hair type, etc. You'll get a cute and cool looking little sprite that looks exactly like how you've always wanted your character to look in game! :D
