is that really a good thing? it's boiled down to mages almost being forced to pg if they want to do things they were doing yesterday, understandably some of those spells were a bit advanced for the current levels of skills. such a large wall spell summoning larger food items (mind you most of these overly adavnced spells weren't even based in offense). but i expected at least by mornings end to do spells involving two runes. (three might be asking alot). and yet there were still some that couldn't be done. even though we'd learn faster if your hitting the skill cap that much faster it means these characters will be idlying that much longer too. not to mention magic is no longer rune based and has it's own individual skills. it seems like at the current rate it's going to take longer to be able to teach then it was already going to.

my question mainly is will you need to high skills in all magical area's before you can teach any runes? or will certain runes be teachable in after a certain magic skill is high enough

An increased learning skill will make you tired faster? I hope not.

@Jeremy it sounds like your skill is rather low....As I said befor at the same skill they should be able to de about the same damage to the other player, and Jeremys fire ball could take a 7th of my health in one hit, and Jeremy wouldent die in 7 hits....

Anyway thanks for finding the problem Nitram!

Mages shoulnt be strong alone, they should be in group, because in fights their main purpose is supporting the fighters, isnt?
what makes you think magic is all about fighting. again your showing that this discussion isn't on the right track. all you see is the weapon aspect, why? because you play a character who spends all his days fighting ALL the time, and what you enjoy most in this game is fighting other people/npcs. if that weren't true we wouldn't be having this conversation.

more over what makes you think that players of mages have designed there characters to wrap around your narrow veiw of this game. what makes you think these characters WANT to be your 'support'. what makes you think half of them even like to fight? every character should get his or her chance to play there character as they see fit. you did when you made Arameh a fighter, Arameh the character doesn't want to play meat shield for people when they fight. he wants to do things his way.

mages are not meant to be your guns, your first aid kit or your antidote. there players and as players you should all spend less time dumping on the system and it's players over singular circumstances, spend less time thinking about fighting and learn to enjoy the game for it's other aspects.
What was that?? I am talking in a fighting situation, a mage is supposed to be supporting the fight, sending fireballs, healing and stuff like that.
The fighters takes the hits, while the mages casts stuff, the fighters ARE the mage's shields, and it ok like that. But before Nitram fixed the problem(i dont know how it is now), whatever the number of fighters of the opposite side had, the side with the mage would win 100% sure, until someone runs after the mage. I am not talking of RP here, and im not wanting to kill everything and powergame like you guys think, for i dont know the reason. I just want the game to be more balanced, i may never fight any mages, since most supports the town and knighthood, but if i see something unbalanced, even if its on my side ig, then i will say it. Right now i see PO mages, crying off because they are no more overpowered, and you tell me that <I> want to be the powerful guy???

Yes skill was quite low...but that was before the magic was down powered.
Nitram says magic was 3x overpowered, so now it would take 21 hits minimum. Thats a lot of casting.

3x oveer-powered isn't a very small glitch. I haven't been reading the last like 3 pages of this topic, but shouldn't it be over? the fighters cried about them being over powered, a glitch was found, we should be one big happy family again right? who cares how much Jeremy did when he hit you. he has been down-powered. and if I remember correctly, Gort, I recall you asking him to hit you to see how much damage it would have done. repetitavly. he wasn't just trying to kill you or anything.

Another question: What's up with the random casting that goes on? I always see mages just spitting out ancient language as much as possible as they walk down the road. We either have a larger influx on schizo characters, or the mage players are...I dont know, behavior (not just mages) seems to low these days.

Personally, I see no other practical reason for casting down the street, and beyond other than that. There might be a decent reason, I'm just not seeing it. Personally, I would view that as a warrior walking down the street with some guy following him hitting him, so his block/parry would go up.

alot of that is they way the system is balanced. mage characters end up needing to eat literally twice as much as other players however until they get very advanced with the food spell they can only summon things like mushrooms apples and what not.

@Arameh: no ones bitchy because of the damage amounts the spells do. i'm pretty sure i can still kill you in about 5 shots if you want to test the theory  . whats aggrivating is the missing spells from what we could do two days ago, not how much damage they do.

as i said before magic isn't all about using it in fights there are plenty of other appplications magic can be used for, and most of the spells that were lost from the other casters were of those type. i'm not speaking for myself in this case my character pretty much only studied the offensive spells via his character. but for those who were doing other things well it's a big time cut back.

And I am sure you will whine again when mages improve their skills and start kicking you ass again..

Problem now seems to be (for me at least) that I hit the skill cap after casting maybe 10 spells.

Farmers and other people try and sell food also, that could always help interaction a bit? Or gathering a lot of food oneself. And it isn't only food spells this happens with.

well if you see someone casting fireballs every step as he or she walks through trollsbane feel free to !gm that.

mages however are a different bunch then most, they see an apple across the street and they dont feel like walking they use a spell to bring it over to them? nessacary maybe not, but there choice. on the other hand if they throw a bunch of items everywhere sheery to use that spell over and over and over. then yea problem.

I dont really see how a mage would be lazy like that, for someone to go down the long road of studying, magic, and work, you need a lot of motivation for that, I would think.

They are lazy when it comes to move bodyparts ;).

But honestly, imagine you could summon every time food out of nothing. How often you would do that? ;)

well you don't have a mana bar that burns away at your food bar making it deplete twice as fast. most mages are wimpy anyway can't carry alot of food. they summon and eat pretty much every single bit of food they summon
