I got a solution. If you don't like how people don't let others steal from them, stop playing a theif.
I can see lock picking being a skill, and maybe steal should be a skill if you are stilling from NPC. But for PC it should be all rp, as we want to encourage rp and not discurage it. What if someone steals from you without rp and you don't notice it or miss it. And there is no alert saying who stole from you. How can you report them for lack of rp.
It is a bad idea, so stop trying.

A skill "lock picking" is a bad idea because:
1) Soon doors become useless because they will be picked all the time anyway.
2) There is no reason to pick a lock as there is nothing to steal behind it anyway.
At the RL-meeting the ability to break doors was discussed for sieges or raids. But if such a thing comes then one person will never be enough to do this alone to prevent people from just destroying everything and piss off the players who have to pay the repairs.

One should be noticed at once when somone steal from you. But only ooc. That way, you could report a thief at once, if he or she does not rp. You should know if the stealing was sucesful at once.Ex.
-Somone tries to steal 40 cp from Cuthalion
-somone is sucesful
---- 10 minutes later---
-Cuthalion sudenly notices that 40 cp is missing.
(i didnt bather to simulate the rping here. Of course, it should be done. If this was a real atempt, Cuthalion could report the thief, for no rping)
If thieving only should be rp'ed, why shouldn't fencing?

If someone came 1 tile away from you and are quiet..then they stole..or I know.. you know how when shift click use flute and the server automatically says Ssafar blows in the flute..So..
Whenever someone tries to steal..
They click steal and clicked in the menu..
[thief name]tries to steal from[char].
*right now the object should still be there in the belt.
Five minutes later is should dissappear.. This will prevent people from stealing without RP..because the server does it for them but after this you can react any way and RP continues the player's way..
He you give it back! or you ignore it or..Thousands of possibilities..
The the whole point about getting better in thieving disappears. If I have unerstood you right. The only problem you solve is the one about players not wanting to give anything away to thieves. You also get a new problem. You allways manage to steal. I still think it would be better to do as I posted earlier.
