#me looks to see what is in the belt, or possibly bag.
The other PO IF wants to go along, describes some items (the ones that are interested in the RP and willing

)... THEN you can "snatch" something from the belt or bag but even then, you are likely to get caught. That is up to the RP in game.
One innovative thief stretched a rope in the dark of night and "tripped" one of my chars who dropped her bag.
I have played three thieves and none have used a weapon either, it is all RP though NOT using game mechanics such as things on the ground that we RP are really handed.
(in other words, I believe both PO's should agree to the RP)

just about all the PO's i know about will be more than happy to play along with getting robbed if the RP is done well.
the only exception is that if for instance, one of my chars is getting mugged andthe person says they have a knife tomy thraot, i do expectthem to be weilding a knife.

Sorry, but I find your RP to be more suited to a online chatroom or purely text MUD than what is supposed to be a graphical online RPG. I play a graphical online RPG because I like the engine support, and I find pure text roleplaying to be dull, predictable, and drab.
Guards don't have to ask nicely "Can I slash you with my sword please?" when they try to hack a thief to death, so a thief should not have to be reliant on the "goodwill" and agreement of his victim to succeed in a theft.

I didn't say the "goodwill" of the thief's "victim".. I said the PO.. the player operator

. I have nothing against using game mechanics in RP either, in fact my char has ghosted and perma'd some chars though all with permission of the PO, and if not permission, the RP leading up to it is obvious. Whether online chat, MUD or whatever... I don't think your fun ig should supercede another's.

The problem with the 'grab and run' is that you give no warning.
The player has no idea whether the item disappeared, the intented recepient took it, or whether it was nicked.
Also chasing someone has a very low chance of success as it is -_-
So if you go #me grabs the coins and runs. It's a bit more acceptable then abusing the engine. And yes it is Abusing the engine, because if you try something like that in reality, its almost impossible, people don't drop coins on the floor.

Money bags can be easily grabbed during the transfer from one pair of hands to another. This happens in real life - even purses are frequently torn away by thieves and wallets pickpocketed out of pockets.
However, RL is beside the point here and the way things in this game are done should not always be referenced to RL because the whole point of a game is to be a pastime away from RL.

When I played a theft (along time ago, I never play alts) I always rped him "bumping" into people. It's a common practice among thieves. I got the idea from Shanghai Knights though.
