Who dug this one up?

Anyway... I still think it makes no sense that arrows require thread... is it ever going to be changed? or are the GMs going to keep it?

It makes plenty of sense. I prefer rubber bands though, when fletching.

It's also highly, highly frustrating. Thal can't get any thread, because the thought of fighting and fighting mummies doesn't appeal to him. So as an archer he is fucked, unless of course he spends thousands of coins which he doesn't have on arrows :D

...hmm that sounded ranty..

if fighting doesn't appeal to him, why would he do archery?

It wouldn't be so bad if there weren't so few mummies, if there were a constant string of mummies it wouldn't be so bad and especially then you could go in groups and mildly entertain eachother while performing such a menial task. Its just sooo boring.

Or perhaps get more thread per gut?

And how would tailors get it? it doesn't fit in with most players rp. And on't say "oh well the fighters can sell you some" they won't, they have suddenly alll become archers.

Actually there a lot of fighters willing.. and umm.. the price seems to have gone down to 2 coins...but

Board and thread? come on....
Just sharpen a stick, remove the extra thingies to make it straght and fire it...

I'll make sure not to buy arrows from you. Arrow heads and feathers make a dramatic effect on accuracy and range. Usually they used some kind of string to bind them in place then glue them probobly with hide glue.

Just one problem... there are NO arrow heads, there are NO feathers.. there's just boards and thread...

You could RP that you just found some flint, knapped it into a head, cut a groove in the arrow for the head, and tied it, sorta like a Aboriginal spear, i guess...not sure how they did arrows

(been reading a series of books on Native Americans...talks a lot about them making throwing spears, but not arrows)

Bit hard to RP each arrow isn't it? How many flints will i need for a whole quiver ;)

And do you HONESTLY expect a head to hold using thread? Thread as in the stuff you put in clothes... no wonder you can't recover it afterwards ;)

Sure, easy stone head, its not like bird feathers are rare I found a bunch on the ground and dead birds well plenty of those probobly. Unless you really want to make it so you need 4 raw materials.

In fact, you cut arrow shafts from boards. :-)

If you're interested in what's important for making a real arrow fly, read this

http://www.thebeckoning.com/medieval/lo ... arrow.html

In Illarion arrows are wasted in large numbers that could be recovered in RL, so correspondingly production should be simpler.

By the way: There used to be a (disfunct) arrow made from 4 components - I removed it from the scripts as it didn't work anyway. :-)
