He cant, but is trying to learn.

Yes, the difference I see between William and the Silas, Orren and Nalzaxx trio is that the trio were actually worthy mages who deserved to learn the runes.
And also through their own dedication and bribery of GM's managed to gain them or some of them after awhile.
Got that red feather coat yet Orren? Cause I sure have my tower.

William Elderberry is known as a complete and utter moron so why would a mage waste his time teaching him if he's either:
1. Not going to ever learn it
2. Be a complete ass and abuse it.
No he really wouldn't, but noone would know anyway cos noone gets to know him. If Cawdor or Edgtho knew magic they'd teach him immediately because they know what he's like. Don't judge a book by its cover.

that's very well spoken.. i would teach you if i knew magic

I think the mage community feels so strongly about prohibiting William from learning magic. They would take steps to ensure the person willing to teach him...well...didn't.
You might think its unfair and all, but you can't have us cater to you just because your character is an ass that commands no respect.

i know that will is .. let's say.. a bit difficult.. trust me i know... but he is a nice guy when you get to know him.. i think that he could change if he wants to

So? If his character is a difficult asshole, then he doesn't get magic.
If it isn't his roleplay that is the problem, then he should make a new character if he wants to learn magic.

i must say that i'm a little amazed with the fact that a whole lot of people dislike him.. That's a real accomplishment for a half-elf

Hmm... someone'll teach him eventually. He'll find another Aokan or one of his friends will learn it and teach him.

I dont know if this has been brough up before but why not make it instead of skill loss, just make the teacher not be able to teach that person anything forawhile. So this way if he want to learn magic he has to RP with severial different teachers of different runes.

This was indeed brought up, and i agree with it.. Skill loss for teaching is .. well.. stupid ! You won't see a RL school teacher getting dumber for teaching students how to solve an ecuation.

Just out of curiousity is your characters mana suposed to be trapped at zero and unable to restore with potions and the like at the begining of the game?

Yuppers.
Imagine that you are a rock with gold inside of it. The gold is there, but you cant see it until it gets mined. Same with mana - It's there but you need, I believe, a rune or ancient language skill to see it.

Yes. As long as you do not learn a magic art, your mana will equal 0.

Genuinely magic is too strong, i am told that spells are supposedto take 2 seconds before they can be used again? Well I just fought samantha with auric. Supposedly the spell isnt a 1 spell kill, so it is 2 spells per us. Well Samantha caused me to lag when she casted, that is fine, but that should be 4 seconds t okill stephen and another 4 to kill auric. That is 8 seconds in total , well it didnt last anywhere near 8 seconds. I would like someone to look in on this, I am sure patric will tell which spell he used, I didnt even see it lol.

I think it is the icecube spell, its very strong and supposed to last 2 seconds, but it seems that it dosent when using a wand..its there since a while.

it's not to strong, but no one has any resistance to it. try not to Judge magic's strenght by player standards. Samantha's magic may be to strong, but i'm pretty sure that she isn't designed the same way as every single mage, and probably has fairly high skills to boot.
p.s. Arameh is right about the ice bolt spell, it doens't have a time delay like the fireball, should be looked at.

He is right though.
Kel Ra Qwan has a preparing time of about 2 seconds
Kel Hept Qwan doesn't have it, when you use a wand. It is bugged.

Indeed, maybe Samantha could stop using a bugged spell? Would be appreciated.

and that lag you expereince i believe is supposed to be there. lightning magic and ice magic i believe cause you to freeze temporarily, no more thena second i think

by Garett Gwenour
well the lag was longer, as i said, it is supposed to be 2 spells, well i lagged about 5 seconds and in that time auric was already dead and halfway to the cross lol

Well if is legitimately a bug and patric is abusing it, either warn him or turn off that spell for the time being.

it can probably be fixed in a few seconds in all honesty. but it's not something a caster wouldn't notice. if you use the system the glitch is apparent

ah well, i am glad we dont have anyone abusing bugs in illa lol
