Project - The Guildhall (completed)

Post by Juniper Onyx »

((Open to Chamber of Commerce members only))
Chamber of Commerce Guildhall Project

Intro:
Many years ago, I led the Galmair Mining Club before my unfortunate abduction to Gynk. Before I left, we started a Project to collect supplies for the Darkhole Tunnel, which eventually helped complete that project. It's been such a key improvement to Galmair, I'd like to try that again with another project. What I propose now, is to collect supplies, ideas and designs for a Guildhall for the Chamber of Commerce here in Illarion.

For a site, I have chosen the Syrita Estate at Galmair Harbour, an excellent site to watch, manage and profit from sea trade, as well as easy access by boat to locations all over. The Estate size is vast and relatively safe. It'll help Galmair improve their Harbor area and increase our profits! I have sent the Left Hand a letter a month ago and await a reply, but it will soon be secured and the building can begin.

Design: (Edited - 18 Ronas)
I propose an open ground floor with 2 rentable merchant shopspaces and areas to display our wares. We can help our local and newer crafters and businesses by helping them start a shop for a small fee.
The Cellar could either be attached to the shops as guest rooms or storage, or we could subdivide them into 2 rentable shopspaces as well for a cheaper fee. (Up for Debate)
I also propose an open Upper floor which would house our "Crafter's College" classroom, dorm-room, small Library and/or Workshop Lab area.
**Any ideas to this proposed design are welcome!

Materials:
An exact list is sure to come soon, but I am sure we will need plenty of pins, cut stones, Naldor boards and Colored Cloth.
I will keep a running list of available supplies on the next page.

I also recommend that Master Crafters keep and donate a 'perfect' copy of their best craft to display in the new Library. With the vendors running short on supplies of high-end goods, this may be the only place for students to see these rare and wonderful items anywhere, like a museum! Students will be able to see what's possible and strive toward learning more.

Books:
We will also need to find translators and scribes to translate the College pages onto Parchment in the old and new tongues and then craft those into books for the Library. Please ask candidates to see me in person to apply. We'll only publish the Grandmaster Material for now and continue to complete information for the other Colleges.

Update!

We have been approved to build on the Syrita Estate and paid up for 6 months! I propose we gather there in six dwarven days and plan a design, make a list of needed materials and work to collect and process gathered materials for an hour or two early in the morning. Bring a torch, it'll be dark! Breakfast Food and Drink will be provided afterward.
((Sunday at 1700 Server time - https://illarion.org/community/un_timec ... y=673a1300 - Submitted as a player quest))

I'll keep the Materials list updated and announce any developments on this board.

First working meeting!

Well, we had a great first meeting!! We brought a cart of tools and supplies, set up some benches and talked about the future building over a campfire. The building will be mostly brick to match the other buildings in Galmair and the Harbor, we felt a fancy floor like stone or wood parquet would be best. The first floor will be open like a marketplace, with stalls and chests all about the outside, and a lower floor with classroom, Mercenary room, and a guest quarters. An Upper floor will have the Office and a museum.

After discussion, we transported Bricks from Galmair. We then cut some local trees, stacked and secured them. After that, we cut some boards, securing those. We had a great time! The Sun rose and we went on to enjoy the day!

Items to bring - Bricks, Food and Pins!

We'll meet again next week! Join us!!

Second Working Meeting

On our second working meting, we cut more apple and conifer wood and planned more of what the Guildhall will look like. Through some great feedback, we came across an idea! Instead of an open Marketplace, how about lower floors being rented to business start-ups and the upper floor used by the College and Museum? This allows the Chamber to help start-up businesses by renting out spaces to help pay the Estate Fees. Exactly what we should be doing! Help our Crafters and their Businesses find their feet.

Through some more brainstorming, The First Floor will change to two rentable spaces with smaller rooms in the cellar, either bedrooms or storage. We thought, to start, one could be a Pub/Tavern/Inn and the other, I was willing to rent for my own shop "Bernie's Bargains". Each Shop could be rented for 5 Golds per dwarven month from the Chamber. The first floor will be Stone, plastered on the inside to give it a cheerful look!

The second floor will be accessible from outside and will feature a classroom/meeting room for the College and a Crafter's Museum/Library open to the public. The second floor will be Clay Woodframe with Bay Windows.

We commenced laying out Parquet Flooring for the first floor and started some stairs to the second. Walls will start going up next time.

There will be no meeting this week, but we will meet again in 2 dwarven weeks. We will need to collect Straw, Cut Stone, Pins and Applewood Boards!

We will also need to hire a manager for the Pub/Tavern/Inn and come up with a name. A few names have been suggested to start:
  • Smuggle Inn or Smuggl'inn
    Bottoms Up!
    Pub-G
    Smuggler's Haven
    Ronagan's Respite
    Sanctuary
    The Vulgar Unicorn
    The Happy Rabbit
    Syrita's Siren
    The Dragon's Den
Feel free to contribute to the growing list of names for our new, small Pub/Inn/Tavern at the Harbor! We'll take a Poll at our next meeting so we can start promoting it and find a manager.....unless a new cook or brewer would like to manage their own Pub for 5 Gold a month?

Thank you!! ~ BB

((Player Quest for this Sunday, 5pm Server time))

Also, don't forget to get those suggestions in for the new Tavern/Inn/Pub and we'll vote on it!
Some new suggestions:
  • Halfpint Haven
    Daily Profit
    Blue Dragon Inn
    Gold Nugget Inn
    The Laughing Lobster
See you there!!

Rental dis-agreement

We had a successful third working meeting and managed to erect most of the walls of the first floor. Everything was progressing perfectly! Just as we were completing for the day, the Don's taxman came and asked for more rent. Unbeknownst to me, our rent had apparently expired! I had paid for 6 months and time has passed way too quickly! Well, we refused, got a little upset and cleaned up the site.

We will try to negotiate with the Don or his assigns as best we can, but for now the Project is suspended. Thank you all who supported this project.

Project on again!!

Thanks to a late night meeting with the Left Hand, we were able to resolve our dispute and have a lower 'coin' cost, plus donations, for the estate for the period of One Year. I paid for two months for now, and will pay more when we meet again. The Project is on again! In the next few days, I will be ferrying building supplies there again and we will continue to build the Guildhall. Member or not, feel free to join us as we build!

Guildhall Project 4th meeting

Whether a member of not, join the Chamber of Commerce as they gather to build their Guildhall at the Galmair Harbour. We need people to gather clay, cut and saw wood, bring bundles of straw or just be there to observe how new buildings are constructed! We welcome your help!

Bring a shovel, hatchet, saw and any supplies if you have them. It'll be early in the morning, so be sure to bring a torch and maybe even a weapon for the occasional slime that wanders too close.

We'll meet at the Galmair Harbour at 3am on the 8th of Malas. See you there!!

Guildhall Progressing!

Yes, we had some great progress today! With the help of Malchus and Nala, we were able to complete the ground floor with the Tavern and Shoppe and start flooring for the second floor, which will be the classroom and Museum of the Chamber! We'll have another working meeting soon. Come by and see the progress! Even better, join the chamber and help out! Have a great day!!

Guildhall Building 5th meeting changed -

I was informed yesterday of a conflicting business meeting I have to attend during the time I initially set on the 4th of Chos. I am therefore rescheduling the Building meeting to a new date and time:

New Date: 8th of Chos, 9am at the Galmair Harbor

((Sunday, Feb 2nd - 1900 server time
https://illarion.org/community/un_timec ... y=679fb2a0 ))

This is only 3 hours ((1 RL hour)) before the 3rd session of Combat training in Cadomyr, but shouldn't affect us too much. See you there!!

((Sorry, I double-booked Saturday with training from work...got my weekends confused. Sunday at a later time should work better for Malchus too))

Results of 5th meeting -

We made good progress! Malchus and Aldric were already cutting wood, sawing boards and flooring the downstairs, while I focused on furnishing the new Saloon, complete with lights and supplies.

Thanks to Nala's design input, the "Syrita's Siren Saloon" aka "Triple S" is nearly finished and yet already portrays a sense of coziness and serenity for all those travelers near and far. Later that evening, Malchus, Flannery and Nala danced the evening away.

In the coming days, work will focus on expanding the Saloon wall, finishing the floor downstairs and finishing the walls of the second floor. At the next meeting, we'll rough in the guest rooms and start the roof.

The new "Syrita Siren Saloon" aka "Triple S", will host events once a month as talent and conditions allow. It will also have 2 guest rooms downstairs for members to rent. We will tentatively plan a "Grand Opening" event for the whole guildhall in the new year around 11th of Zhas at 1500.
(( https://illarion.org/community/un_timec ... y=67c2f6c0 - 1st March, 1300 server time))

More plans will be announced as plans develop.

It's been a long journey, but the benefits are starting to manifest. Thank you to all our members for helping make our Guildhall our home.

Nearing completion and Grand Opening next month!

Friends, the Guildhall is very nearly completed! As soon as the final pieces of the roof and walls are completed, we will start decorating for interested rentals. If you are a Chamber member, you may Rent one of the apartments or get on a list for one as soon as space is available. Rentals help offset the total cost of the Estate for everyone. Many Thanks to Chamber members who contributed to make this happen!

I'll post these in a separate post when we finish, but so far:

The Chamber of Commerce is celebrating it's Grand Opening of it's Guildhall, The Syrita's Siren Saloon, Bernie's Shoppe, Black Wyvern Company and it's various apartments for Chamber members. Festivities will be on the roof with songs and a special Dance by Flannery the Bard, and drinks in the Triple S by our hostess, Dame Nala Thorhild. Grand Opening!

A stellar performance by Flannery the Bard, drinks and snacks provided by Dame Nala Thorhild and Master of Ceremonies Bernie Bottoms regaled the audience with the "Scarlett Cloth" acrobatics, illusions and good songs and fellowship. The event was a success, with the promise of more such events in the future as the Guild grows and prospers.

Thanks to all who helped build this home for our guild and our friends and thanks to all our customers who supported us!

We will continue to serve the good citizens of Illarion through trade, promote free enterprise and fellowship!

*This project is completed*
