Naras 24th, 71

As dawn dyes the sand of the desert into flaming red, the light reveals a horrible sight. on the small island, beyond the bridge, north west of the destroyed Temple of Sirani close to Cadomyr, lies the corpse of a muscular young man in his mid-twenties leaning against a tombstone and sitting in a puddle of blood, that slowly seeps away to the sand. He’s wearing the typical cloths of a sailor from the region around Salkamar and is gagged with an empty leather pouch, while there lies an old silver coin right under his tongue, that was once minted in Salkamar around 150 years ago. There’s an empty scabbard of a dagger on his belt, but the weapon is nowhere to be seen.

Countless stabbing wounds are to be found all over his body, yet none of them seems to aimed for a vital point. It looks like he was left to bleed out and there was a small piece of skin removed from the inside of his left lover arm in shape of a perfect square of around two square centimeters.

His blue eyes are widened in shock and agony, staring towards the little bridge that leads to the small island. There lies the corps of a young woman who was killed with just one stab in her back. Telling by her position, she probably was trying to flee when death caught her. Her green eyes are widened and staring in shock from beneath some strands of once beautiful reddish-brown hair. Her dark green dress shows the typical style of Cadomyr but is soaked in blood. From the amount, one may tell, she lost quite a lot of blood for just one wound. Right next to her, there’s a bloody footprint on the bridge, telling of big, heavy boots.

All in all, it had been a nice morning. Katharina's mind was far off bloodshed and violence and she was overall in a good mood. After a lovely, decadent breakfast, she wandered out of the town. One of the nice things about the desert, she reckoned, was that even in fall, one could wear a light summer dress without freezing. The homeland around the town had been quiet recently and thus, she figures that she could visit the patron god altars without armour. That prove true for the altar of Malachin. Though she felt not a whole lot of devotion towards him, she left a small donation at the shrine, before moving on, farther into the desert.

However, her good mood vanished at once, upon finding the young woman on her way to the ruined altar. Approaching slowly and carefully, the eyes on her surroundings, she knelt down by her side and stretched out a hand to check for a pulse. Before she had touched her skin, though, she realized that the staring eyes and the blood, compared with the lack of warmth radiating would make it pointless to check for vitals. Instead, she raised the outstretched hand a bit further and gently closed the eyes of the woman. Only then, she headed back to town to inform the guards.

A few minutes later, the guards tasked to retrieve the corpse also stumble across the second body. Both were carried into the town and a scribe takes proper notes of the crime scene and everything gets cleaned up. After a while, wind and sand cover even the last traces.

A few hours later, messengers and doves depart from Cadomyr.
