Anklage/Accusation

Post by Katharina Brightrim »

Majesty, dear nobles, citizen of Cadomyr,

regrettably I have to address an accusation against some of our fellow citizen today. After the late happenings, I cannot look away from the not tolerable misbehavior from some of us anymore.

At first I want to point out that the victim in this case, Jarlath, did wrong, too. But since he's a citizen of Runewick, I will leave it to Professor Deanna to punish his misbehavior and only accuse citizen of Cadomyr for their mistakes. Jarlath, who visited Cadomyr that day, was not able to find a place to relieve himself and eventually used a bush next to the tavern to do so. Such a behavior is definitely not fitting into a realm like Cadomyr, but the lack of public lavatories (House Desert Fox already submitted plans for those years ago) makes it forgivable, as his question where he can relieve himself was not answered.

My accusation addresses to:

Zelphyra from House Sea Serpent, who attacked an unarmed visitor of Cadomyr with her sword for a minor crime. The visitor was badly wounded. This happened while three more, trained warriors were around, which makes it unjustified to use such brutal methods. The dwarf was dragged out of the town by members of House Sea Serpent afterwards, despite his heavy wounds, and dropped in front of the gates. Taking the current danger that comes from Letma and taking alone the desert heat, this could be compared to a death sentence. Badly wounded and bleeding, the dwarf made it to reach the teleporter to Runewick and was eventually rescued by the medico of House Desert Fox. Zelphyra, who was sentenced to serve House Desert Fox because of trespassing before, committed a disproportionately and dishonorable crime that did not just hurt the dwarf but also the reputation of Cadomyr.

Hurskarl Sefja Abenius from House Sea Serpent, who lied to me, a noble of Cadomyr, about what happend this day. According to her, Jarlath was just beat up, without weapons. Even if being with three other warriors, beating up the dwarf would not have been as bad as using a weapon against an unprotected visitor. Sefja Abenius, who have been sentenced to serve House Desert for because of rude insults before, does not show any respect towards nobles who aren't in her house. She even seems to think that nobles who was chosen by the Queen have to earn her respect, which is not how our system works.

Count Ssar'ney from House Sea Serpent, who repeatedly showed to be extremely and unfitting violent. Commanding his house members to grab and even attack a dwarf who "just" relieved himself into a bush next to the tavern, does not just dishonor his house, but also the realm. Having a four to one advantage against an unarmed, defenseless visitor and still using such a violent method is a shame and unworthy for a noble, who is supposed to serve the well being of Cadomyr. Count Ssar'ney showed his explosive temper before, for example when he threatened me with his spear for sharing food with my friends and fellow house members or when he knocked down a stranger who did not follow his instructions. Even more, the Count more or less sentenced a heavy wounded visitor to death, without trial.

I would have liked to talk to the Count about the misbehavior of his House before making such a step, but his presence to this libelous misbehavior makes me think, that he accepted it, maybe even ordered his members to act as they did. If it happened at his command, I withdraw my accusation against Zelphyra from House Sea Serpent, because she only followed orders, and load it on the Count. The accusation against Huskarl Sefja Abenius on the other hand will stay, since she lied to me high-handed to cover the misbehavior of her house.

If anyone else has been done injustice by the Sea Serpents and been ignored, now is your chance to step up.

May the Queen bring justice to this case, for the victim, for the reputation of Cadomyr and for all visitors in the future who should be able to visit Cadomyr without fearing for their lives, again.

Kenntnisnahme der Anklage

Post by Q-wert »

The House of the Sea Serpent takes note of the formal accusation by the House of the Desert Fox as well as the half truths stated therein.
The Count High-Templar takes responsibility for those of the Third House in regards of the forceful expelling of the dwarf Jarlath and, as soon as the Cosen One calls for such, is of course available for trial in the Noble Court in front of the Chosen One.

Unless a sentence of the Chosen One speaks otherwise, the House of the Sea Serpent is aware of no injustice done by it.

Always loyal to the Law of Cadomyr,
Sets dem Gesetz Cadomyrs treu,

  • ~Ssar'ney
    • Graf des Hauses der Seeschlange
      Hohentempler Zelphyras
      Patrizier Cadomyrs

By the only Lettarius. Who by the way is well versed in Cadomyrian law. Nobles cannot judge those of another House, this task (and thus, this case) does fall to the Queen.

Is Cadomyr still respected as a monarchy? I doubt so. If person of lower noble's title can accuse using to this any law against another one who is higher ranked this makes no matter if such a movement is respected by a law or not. Such a behaviour should be punished, before this spread populism or equality.

Dear Mister Marcelius,

it is good to see so much interest from your side to keep the Cadomyrian hierarchy working. Let me explain the situation to you, as you seem not to be aware of what I wrote:

I brought this case in front of the Queen, since I, and you got that right, do not have any power to judge or sentence another noble. Despite being a higher rank than me, we nobles report directly to the queen. As can be seen by the Counts many accusations against the late Countess Annabeth of House Desert Fox, back when he himself was a Baron.

Also, let me explain you the meaning of the word "monarchy": A monarchy means that a realm has a Queen or a King who stands above any other citizen and noble. I think Cadomyr fits this requirement, so I do not understand what you try to tell us.

The ability to escalate differences to the higher instance is of vital importance to the Realm. While the Sea Serpent might neither agree with the contents, public way of bringing forth letters to Her Majesty or not having been consulted to on the matter beforehand, it will fight to the teeth to defend the Deset Foxes right of presenting their case before the Chosen One.

The individual named Titus Marcelius is hereby banned from the gates of Cadomyr for one threeweek for questioning the Godsgiven order of Cadomyr.
Failiure to comply will result in him being justly treated, just like the dwarf Jarlath, for the very same reasons.

In the name of the Cadomyrian law and its monarchy,

      High Templar of Zyathis
      Patrician of Cadomyr

By Lettarius. The inclined reader might have noticed: There was no trial. Cadomyrian law requires none.

To settle a dispute regarding an assignment during the past nights of blood, Huskarl Sefja is assigned to serve Knight of the Realm Amanda Brightrim for four days.
The date of the days are to be negotiated between Huskarl and Knight. Should this not be possible, the days will be assigned by the Count High-Tempalr.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that I am fully supporting Baroness Katharina in her accusations, whether it be in regards to the particular case put forth by her or in regards to the overall appalling conduct of the few members of the House Sea Serpent. What follows are my own frustrations with the House, pent up over many years. It is time to let them out.

Huscarl Sefja and Chirch Ka Shrr would very rarely even attempt to respect the hierarchy that is in place in Cadomyr. They would outright refuse direct orders coming from another Noble, protected by the Count's own written Law of Nobility which allows such misguided rebellion against the Noble of another House. Despite this law existing, I always instructed the members of House Desert Fox to obey all other Nobles and attempt cooperation with the House Sea Serpent. Whether or not it was worth it, I tried to change the law so that all Cadomyrians, whether they be members of a specific House or not, are required to obey any Noble's direct command, and the Nobles themselves would have to sort out their differences if giving mixed commands. The law has still not been changed so the few bad eggs are allowed to continue to rot, holding back any advances to a more stable Realm.

During my time as a Noble, I struggled to hold back the Count's objectively violent and erratic ways of dealing with issues that definitely would have required more diplomacy and investigation. Years ago, his lack of impulse control and harshness drove many citizens of Cadomyr to seek a home elsewhere, and it nearly caused me to follow them. On top of that, he has repeatedly soured Cadomyr's reputation and some of its alliances, and I can only imagine how things would now be if I had left Cadomyr all those years ago. Perhaps there would be even more blood on his hands and fewer people left to shake their heads at it.

Regardless of the questionable honor of the House Sea Serpent, I have always tried to follow the rules when it comes to the hierarchy of Cadomyr and show the Count and his House the required respect even though true respect toward them is rarely warranted. I have strayed and allowed my emotions to take hold of me, perhaps sometimes making me seem like the Count himself and that is something I am not proud of. It has been well and truly difficult to perform under the constant fear of being set back by the House Sea Serpent's zealous agenda and I do not blame anyone for acting against them in a desperate attempt at exacting justice.

The late Countess Annabeth would often tell me of the difficulties of dealing with the House Sea Serpent which was a major reason to her worsening mental state. Having been through the same I say with confidence that whilst my years as a Noble were rich with enlightening and evolving experiences, they also contained a lot of the same difficulty that Countess Annabeth had with having to find compromise with the Count where there should have been no need for such. I am glad that I stepped down as Noble when I did or otherwise I could envision myself breaking under the constant and needless pressure of controlling the damage caused by my so-called colleague... or dying by his hand in a duel over some frivolous issue which he could not solve with words or a bit of conformity.

I should not have to point out the depravity of the Count's latest decision to have priestess Zelphyra's, the mother of his hatchlings, tail cut off for Runewick and the denial of her ability to see her own hatchlings for doing what she thought to be right. We can all argue over whether she should or shouldn't have done what she did but in the end she is sincere enough to be worked with and to be reasoned with; unlike the Count and his closest followers. Sure, the Count may have had moments of "weakness" where he shows a resemblance of humanity but a few laid bricks do not make an impressive wall when that wall has been struck down over and over again.

While there is much to criticize about the House Sea Serpent, we shouldn't ignore their many achievements that have benefited Cadomyr, such as the building projects, the Mas defenses and the plans to take down the demoness Preacerdhal and the evils nesting at Mount Letma. Having said that, I do not and I never will truly respect or happily work with the House Sea Serpent as long as their fundamentals stay the same. I have tried long enough to keep my head down and take the high road but have finally grown tired of faking a respectful bow to tyranny.

The House Sea Serpent may be Cadomyr's greatest asset but it is also its greatest burden.

The House of the Sea Serpent takes note of Patrician K'shires complaints. It recommends handing them to his Noble.

By the one and only Lettarius. Who does find it somewhat weak to complain well over one cycle after having been in a position of power, where one could have achieved 'something' to push the change wanted. Maybe with a little conformity instead of attempting to restructure Cadomyr behind the backs of everyone else such could have been achieved?
And wasn't there something about wanting to improve communication between the Houses?
