There is a chance, an item lost quality when repaired by the repair NPC.
When an item lose quality?
- As more the item is damaged as higher the probability it degrades.
- An item can lose only one step in quality during one repair. If the quality degrade from the lowest quality ("horrible") it breaks.
Who can repair items?
- The craftsman who can produce an item is able to repair that item. He/she has to have the skill to produce the item.
- Put the item to repair in your belt and use the appropriate tool. The production menu shows on the bottom a group ‘repair’ with all repairable items.
- You have to have all material at hand, you’d need to produce the item. The material might not be needed.
- How much material is needed?
User repair for an almost broken item needs 30% of the material needed for new production.
Since we cannot take a part of a piece of material, the material is taken by chance.
Example: The item is 45% damaged ("slightly scraped"). The chance any material is needed is 13.5% (0.3*45%)
- The craftsman is able to repair items above his/her skill.
Example: Skill is currently 45. The needle has a set of level 3 magic gems with an effect of 36%. The tailor can repair items up to level 45+36=81.

The chance the item improves the quality is:
- higher for a more degraded item.
- higher for a user crafted or special named quest item.
- two times the chance the item lost quality during NPC repair for a looted item.
- more than three times the chance the chance the item lost quality during NPC repair for a user crafted item.
- It is possible to regain one step of a lost quality per repair action only.
The best possible quality is the quality the item got during production or when found in a loot or treasure.
