Hey Vindigan,
there is a very good "work arround" with this problem that the Name Dyluck might be from a Videogame.
It is "Secret of Mana" right?
Well Illarion is a german(austrian) game, and there also exist a german translation for the Game "Secret of Mana".
But in this game the Character named "Dyluck" has be renamed to a more familar name on the german market. He's "Hagen" now.
So i dont see a problem using a name, that does not exist in the german version of the game you refer to.
From what I know, people I know have made names that they thought they made up. They would then use it in games. Later they would get emails saying from a guy in some weird viking place was named that. He just thought it was funny and thought the person should know. Maybe become friends or something. Yet these names were strange. I believe that there was a real person just from the addresses and stuff on the emails. What I am trying to point out is...how can you make a name law against something like Firenze. Every word that someone "makes up" is being used. How can you actually "create" a name? You can't really. So how can they be violating rules? Just because they don't know? How would a person know their name was after a town? I also heard a story where a child's name was named after the ford truck due to he was born in a ford truck. Some names are quite funny on that list. Some are weird. Some are scary......Oh well...Not like anyone has power on this.
When I started using Kasume people thought I was female. I was confused by this. When playing my DOA (dead or alive) game I noticed that one of the (very hot) chicks was named Kasumi. I had NO idea about this! I have been using this name for a while now. Hardly anyone on here has said anything about it. Although in other games people think I am female for the longest time. Although I meant nothing to do with the DOA console game! How can you violate someone that really does not relize it?
Sure, if a person doesn't really know about such town as 'Firenze', I feel sorry for him. (but I think that he know, so I wont) But that is no excuse to get thought the appilcationsystem.
Incidents like 'Firenze' are bordercases, because there seems not to be a clear definition of their approvability in the namerules, so it is Gamemaster's decidion. I wouldn't have accepted him,but it was
'Firenze -insert some nice name here-' I would have done that.
Maby she souldn't list the names that were deleted. She should list the names that were accepted recently (I believe that the list would be much shorter ). Anyways I'm glad that the name Yuri isn't on the list.
I played runescape for about a year and got tired of running back and forth from the pond to the wolves. hehe. Chop chop chop! Level 71 wolves dead! Now I run back to the pond to fish lobsters! weeeee Splash Splash Splash! Burn Burn BURN! Anyway...that was my life for about 2 months.
Anyway I was just kidding. No wait! That name was from a asian guy I know. You can't use that!
Just kidding. I have no clue where it comes from. What I am trying to say is that you can't create a name for something you do not know.
James wrote:...because if this was absolutely strict then illarions best roleplayer dyluck would have to change his name.
*Cough* Illarion's Best Roleplayer? How much did he pay you for that one?
But seriously now, I think that Zeke Ekez is a fairly good name. Where in the world would that be? O_o
And to James, my name is also from another game. But no one has tried to copy it yet (knock on wood) and I was the first. (And I do say, my roleplaying skills are quite excellent... ) It's worse when you have "L3golas" and "Legolass" and "Legggolas" because people have no imagination.
Kasume wrote:Wow they didn't accept Grimlok? Weird. I have never heard of GrimloCk.
Well, technically I haven't tried to find out if they would accept the name or not, because there's still that news piece saying that they aren't accepting new players, and nothing has been posted to say otherwise, so I'm just waiting until it's possible to send a request.
maybe i went a little ott on my dyluck acknowledgement i guess i felt a little guilty for bringing up the thing about his name
dyluck perhaps is not illarions best role player but he`s a good one that make you feel better or should i go for erdick is illarions best and if their was a hall of fame he should be in it.
only kidding erdick is good iv rped with him for a little bit. no one mentions my roleplaying ability
thought erdick was familiar cant for the life of me put my finger on it.
at least we havent sonic the hedgehog applying yet
Just a litte addition:
Anybody who supplys a name like this will have a hard time to get accepted even with a good name.
Also in a few days i will publish a list of names, which are not THAT stupid, but still wont make it into the game. I will state a few general reasons for their denial.
Discussion about them will not be accepted, their owners are free to apply with better names.
Anybody, who did apply not in the last 2 days, not on one of those lists, should have gotten the questions.
That means there are ~800 Answers to be written right now.

I absolutly love the names being tried...Gives me my laugh for the day. Would be alot funnier if only my first name wasn't on the really reallly long list (covers face completely ashamed) Well, I guess the embarrasing "having your name on the chalkboard" was worth seeing if the rpg actually did live up to its rules. The staff are doing a good job! (Bows to them all)
sorry to be rude but as I am an experienced member but inside the body of a newbie (that made no sense at all). All I want to know is That I replied on 4/17/03 before the supposed Denial of accounts. I made a character the same name as my forum name and I didnt see any of name on the lists. As Galdriel said I should of gotten my questions but Ive never even seen one yet. Can you please help me out?
Do you know when account acceptance will start again? I already have a character but, I was just wondering because of a friend. Is there a date when you will start taking accounts?
[Edit] Noticed a Mistake i made with a incorrect Explaination of "Balmung".
Galdriel makes a great Job but she is not the Person who is resposinble for the correctness of the Names. Dont expect her to correct every Name in the Inbox of her MailAccount.
The Players here should be old and marture enouth to know how to type properly.

Dont start with a Capital (and no, i am not going to update them in the DB)
Sir, Lord, whatever (same as above)
Diminuitive forms ......y
Names with an obvious meaning (even if some of you wont grasp the meaning)
Countrynames / Citynames
Celebrity names
also i want to get away from the 3-4 letter names (and dont come to me, that there already exist some)
as stated above, and since none of the other GMs voted for any of the names, there will be no discussion.
Personnally, I cannot tell the difference between the bad names and the mediocre names. They both are horrible. God it would be horrible if they got in this game. Keep up the good work Galadriel.
elbereth was not the name of a hymn.. though there were songs dedicated to elbereth
Elbereth was the sindarin name of Varda and means star queen in the lord of the rings...
Captain Nemo is the captain of the submarine in the novel 20.000 leagues under the sea written by the french author jules verne...
he devised many interesting things in his books, many of them became reality years later (like helicopters... he described them in the 19th century... long before anyone was thinking they would be possible )
anyway.. this does not exactly belong here so i better stop

Erchem, are you forgetting Leonardo DaVinci? He made diagrams of helicopters long before Jules Verne was even alive! And did you ever read the book The Master of the World? That was a really good book by Verne that features an airplane, submarine, and car, among other things. Worth reading, and then rereading.
Anyway, I know that Captain Nemo is a fictional character from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, but if you look at the whole name, Nemo Omen, you'll see Nemo is Omen backwards, the more probable reason the person picked this name.
