re ingame children

Post by Yvanna »

I would like please clarification re the rules surrounding violence to ingame children.

I am very clear there is to be no RP'd violence of any sort toward them (and am very happy about this ... and given how unsafe Illarion can be at times I wouldnt be too keen on having one otherwise.) But ... where is the line drawn?

During the course of a current quest, a character has been told that if he does not comply with certain persons, his child will be harmed.
w:You hear: Or I shall break your child in pieces and make you eat him.
w:You hear: Piece by piece....
So ... is this allowable? or not?

Would you prefer it if he said
w:You hear: Or I shall break this cookie in pieces and make you eat it.
w:You hear: Piece by piece....

This is just a threat, spoken by one character to another.
You can replace the word "child" with anything that the character it's aimed at holds precious, like "your parents", "your loved one", "and your little dog too!".

Hm...i think its the same as in educating children:
Dont threaten with something you cant do like:
"Sit down or the pilot will turn around and fly home again!!!!!1111"

There is no magical thing that is protecting the Illarion-children from harm, desease, famine or any other kind of suffering. (Think of Gynk.)
The only thing that is forbidden by rules is that you visually play out violance against children, which you are not even allowed to play as far as I know.

So if someone comes along, looks menacing at your character and starts to threat his/her dearest, your character should act according to it. For him/her this is not an empty threat, as it is for the player.

hhehehehehexD you 'can' technically say that if you're the pilot...

on topic: it 'did' sound a 'tad' harsh that whole "i will eat your children" but its only a InGame threath..i think the rules only emplies for Roleplaying hurting a child. with emphesis on think... 'saying' your going to eat someones children is far from actually doing it. this game doesnt have a 16 year old age..uh...*cant remember the word* PG 16..aiiit..? oh wait.,.PowerGame 16 hours a day..well ya get my point.

You couldn't play a child char, the lowest age is 14.
In Kadiya's post she were talking about the children who "don't really exist" but are only rped by the players, so all under the age of 14.

Why does it matter so much to you people? Why do you want your stories to be PG-13 so much? It's a roleplay environment, we're creating stories, not stories for kids, but interesting tales for grown ups which yes, will end up containing some violence eventually. (That rule is really stupid IMHO. I understand the cybersex one, but not the violence one).

But according to the rules, he can say whatever he wants, threaten whatever he wants, and your character should act as if these threats could happen, but OOCly he can't explicitly describe hurting a child with emotes (as in, his character do it)..

An emote is a #me

...

Kamilar, the straight answer is:

You can threaten to attack someone's child, you just can't rp doing horrible violent things to them.

I can't believe this discussion was actually required.

A threat, spoken to you about your child is allowed.

RPing any sort of violent act against your child is not. In the means of your child being physically present, and somehow harming him (through emotes). Just as "#me breaks your legs and makes all the blood drizzle out" is not allowed. This is overplayed and horrible.

It is a thin line, and this person who said it is walking it, but your straight answer: We will not ban him.

Mesha

P.S. I do hope people will realise that you can give a character a threat that is a bit less horrendous (even if it is just for the sake of keeping your own morals straight). I understand it goes with the character, but you could tone it down a notch.

Telling someone you will feed them their child, piece by broken piece, is walking a thin line. ;) I think this discussion has been useful.
