free guitar based midi program, mainly used for turning midi files into guitar tabs, called powertab. http://www.power-tab.net/
I use it to make the writing process easier for me, since I will tend to play everything on guitar before notating it.

Have background noise, like bird-song/animal noises in forests, river sounds by water, ocean sounds by the sea. In mountains you could have the sound of the winds, while in towns you get background people noise.
Not sure about deserts. Maybe an orcish war-drum?
I'd help with this kind of thing, its easier than music (good music anyway) imo.

Please make them quite subtle and non-annoying.Gregory Hardcast wrote:Have background noise, like bird-song/animal noises in forests, river sounds by water, ocean sounds by the sea. In mountains you could have the sound of the winds, while in towns you get background people noise.

For the sake of long term sanity and good taste, I'd like to request that no sounds that can't at least concievably have come from an actual source, should be played by the game.Gregory Hardcast wrote:while in towns you get background people noise.

Gotcha. They all should be easy except for town backgrounds, not sure how i'd do that.
I could record at my local pub i guess.
The howl of a distant wolf, or the chirping of unseen crickets, is one thing, but a babble of voices as you enter a town? A babble of voices when there's clearly no crowd of people? Even if there are a couple of NPCs in the town, unless they're actually in a group, talking, then that would make no sense.
That sort of sound effect could find a place, but only (imo) as a GM triggerable device, for use in events and meetings where there are actually a large number of participants present, talking amongst themselves (and even then it would be a little bit cheesey).
Perhaps there can also be some sounds for the movement of items from the world to the bag, and vice versa.
