Cooking feedback / Koch-Feedback

Post by Estralis Seborian »

Fellow Illarionites,
recently, an update of the cooking processes and the eating script was conducted. The changes done may appear as minor changes to you. In fact, they are, but some principles were applied that weren't applied before. As example, the hardest to cook dishes now grant the highest food-value (that yellow bar thingy). That was not the case before (rabbit dish, anyone?).

In order to see in how far these principles are accepted by the community, I'd like to ask for feedback. You don't have to write long essays, just cook a bit like you were used to and

1. What change caught your attention first besides you (not) being able to cook/bake/eat item xyz?

2. What do you think about exactly this particular change?

3. What do you think about the interface/usability and the 'new' recipes?

4. Are there any bugs except the "I cannot eat smoked fish"-problem?

5. Are there any ingredients/food values that are totally unfitting and that need to be changed in your opinion?

Thanks in advance!

Yours,
GM Estralis

I can't help you with any of the questions you ask, but I am really happy you have (tried to? =) ) fix the food and cooking system. Hopefully this will make less hobby chiefs and give the good chiefs more customers. Really great change if you ask me! So many thanks from me! =)

What change do you mean in particular?

- was meinst du damit genau?

I would say.... the major cause would be low dex instead of low skill... if google translator translated the posts pretty well xD

PO Pellandria wrote that it took quite long for one step making a cherry cake and that she had more fails than before.

I responded that the times are now longer, proportional to the difficulty. Besides they're calculated based on skill and attribute, so low dex=long production.

Additionally the needed skill for almost all items was changed and the ingredients, food value and diet value were adjusted properly.

Much more fair than before in my opinion.

While I don't have a problem with not selling any baked goods, hell I can make much mor emoney killing a few monsters, "normal" or more balanced chars will have a problem, because now that its got much harder to produce quality food the price raises and was it allready...wlel not that easy to sell food it will even get worse with a raising price, because more ingredience, longer time to produce and everything else means the price will raise, which will reduce the coin any cook makes.

There are allready more than enough people eating just apples, meat and fish all day anyway, with these changes I guess there will be even more.

Since none of my characters ever were cooks, the only change I've noticed is the good/bad days.

I have enjoyed being able to eat red elders, their food balance seems to be correct as well. I noticed that ham was a bit more filling, which is nice too.

I just love the new cooking system! The succession of dishes a cook can cook seems to be a lot more logically ordered, and the new recipes are simply fantastic! I can't way to share cookies with friends or serve a juicy grilled steak for dinner! About the interface and usability, I really can't find fault with anything except that it would be nice if soups, dishes, plates, and bowls could be stacked. It would also be convenient if buckets of water would stack, and if you could kickstart the filling of stacked empty buckets in your hands after using them with a well much like how you can kickstart the kneading of dough by using a baking oven with rolling pin, flour, and water on you now. For #5, I'd only say that maybe the honeycomb requirement for cookies should be exchanged for something else considering that honeycombs are so difficult to obtain while cookies are the beginning baking item for bakers. Anyways, thank you so much for this development! I'm glad it was done, and it's certainly brought a ray of happiness into my life. Thanks a bunch!

I think plates can't be stacked because of their use in druidism right now.

And the soups ect... not stacking would have been a precursor to putting quality values there. Dunno if that's still planned ;)

I know you can carry ingredients in your belt and your bag now and work on food items from either your belt or your bag now. This change is great, it makes the game play much smoother, thanks! I noticed that food items worked on from within your bag do not get beyond the first step of completion though.

Ingredients can be used from the belt and bag, but the item you're working on has to be at the belt, due to the crafting script, not the cooking script itself. Perhaps the relevant part will be rewritten sometime, so the script can get the item in the bag aswell.
For now you have to live with that restriction.

I messed around with the cooking system yesterday. Sorry if these thoughts were already posted. *struggles with translation*

The plate dishes seem MUCH more balanced now. The easier dishes being less filling and requiring fewer ingredients. I really like not needing bread to make the dishes now. It was a source of frustration before needing to craft low level items to make high end dishes. Like all other interconnected crafts, it was hard to find newer players willing to sell their low end foods to higher end cooks, so I ended up doing it myself most times.

I didn't cook any of the soups, but just looking at the sequence of them, it makes a LOT more sense now that they range from fewest ingredients to most ingredients.

For baking, the difficulty and time spent seems alright, but the grouping of ingredients seems a little off still. For example, the strawberries all go into the cake in one step so if you fail at that step, you lose 10 berries. I think it would be better to break that into 2 steps or more. At the end I was having trouble concentrating on the details, but it seemed like cakes used too much dough. With the fails it was nearly 100 dough to make 2 cakes and Fianna is a darn good cook. True that her stats are not ideal for a crafter, but I still think this level of ingredient cost seemed excessive.

Thanks for all the feedback! I conclude:
  • Recipes are commonly accepted
  • Item staging and balancing of foodvalue is commonly accepted
  • Drop of requirement to have items in the belt is commonly accepted and welcomed
  • Time requirement should be taken a look into
  • Stackability of plates is demanded

If I understood it correctly potions cannot be made stackable because they have a quality value.
