((OOC Notes: This Guild is maintained by up to 33 people for Guild Forum purposes – 16 Abbots (substitutes for High Priests on Quorum), 16 High Priests and 1 Elder.
Governed by the Elder and Quorum of "Eleven and Five".
It operates without affiliation to any Town or Race, like a ‘Corporation’ but owns nothing.
All Buildings it constructs are for Public use for all players benefit.
Its purpose is to Organize the Priest Class IG and help Religion become more dominant and prestigious.
Please do not spam this topic. Thank you.))

            • ~Church of Gobaith~

The “Church of Gobaith” addresses all faiths and needs here. It consists of twelve independant and equal "Parishes" assigned various altars around Gobaith. Each ‘Parish’ shall be administered by a High Priest (Father), Priests, and assisted by Monks and Paladins in a ‘Triumverate’ structure. Each Parish shall be dedicated to local Gods or Goddesses, and their Mission shall be reflective of their beliefs.

The “Elder” serves the will of the Quorum of "Eleven and Five” consisting of a High Priest from each Parish and the Elder.

Only Persons of ‘Good’ or ‘Neutral’ alignment are recruited by the Church.
‘Evil’ alignment persons are banned and may be declared “Enemies of the Church” if any action endangers or harms any member of the Church or the people it serves.

All Genders, Races, Professions, Ages and Skills are welcome! We have Priests ((RP)), Monks ((Crafters)), Paladins ((Fighters)) and Scribes ((RL writing))!

See your “High Priest” of your Diety within our Church for membership, and take an Oath to the same to serve Him or Her.

In Humble service and Prayer,
~Elder Justin Nickov Thyme~

        • Structure of the Church:
          • Basic ‘Parish’ Structure
        • Image

Parish:
A Geographic area organized in an equal “Three” branches of power to fulfill roles best suited to their skills. Parishes may be in charge of several chapels, cemetaries or temples depending on need.

Priests/Preistesses:
They convene as a Group to decide on who leads as “High Priest(ess)” for each particular Diety in any way fitting for that Diety. Exception: There is no ‘High Priest’ of the Elder Gods. Only one ‘Elder’ is elected from the Quorum of Twelve who represents the Elder Gods on the Council.

The High Priest(ess) may speak any Language, but must have a working knowledge of the new tongue.

A Priest is called “Father”, or “Mother” for a Priestess to denote their Role in the Church.
The High Priest(ess) is called “Reverend Father” (or “Reverend Mother”) to denote their role.

Duties:
The Priest(ess) works among the people, spreading the word of their God(dess), performing works and conducting prayers and rituals. Donations can be made to any priest, who must then give it to the High Priest for use by all. ((Lots of RP))

The High Priest(ess) leads the Parish and handles its treasury. They also recruit and administer a fitting Oath to any new members for their Diety, and notifies the Abbot (Abbess) and Guardian of new members. The High Priest(ess) also serves on the “Quorum of Twelve” (See “Leadership” below) for their Diety with equal voice to the Elder. They may also request their Abbott or Abbess to “stand in” or substitute for them at a “Quorum of Twelve” meeting.

Tithe:
All Donations to Priests through their efforts are to be given to the “High Priest”, who will then submit it to the Elder for the Treasury.

Pay:
Priests are paid based on Merit, works and skill with the public ((RP)) as determined by the Quorum of Twelve.

Monks:
Convene as a Group to elect the “Abbot” or “Abbess” in any way they see fit. Only one Abbott (Abbess) is elected from each group of Monks per Diety. Monks assist the Church with needs such as supplies, crafts, work, or quiet rest.

A Monk is called “Brother” or “Sister” to denote their role in the church.
The Abbot is called “Abbot” or “Abbess” to denote their Role.

Duties:
The Abbott leads his Monks in the performance of their duties and advises the High Priest. They also mediate in disputes between the Priests, Monks, Paladins or all three, like a Judge, whose decision is final. An Abbott is entitled to enlist the aid of the “Guardian” or any Paladin in the enforcement of their decisions.

In the event a High Priest is inactive, disabled, incompetent or otherwise impaired, the Abbott has the power to call for election by the Priests (if any). If there are no Priests, the Abbott will assume the duties of High Priest until a Priest is recruited. May also “Stand in” or substitute for the High Priest if requested by him/her at a “Quorum of Twelve” Meeting.

In the event a “Council” is requested by the “Quorum of Twelve” (See ‘Leadership’ below), then all Monks, no matter their status, convene in a grand meeting as a “Council of Monks” to determine matters by majority vote of those in attendance.
((Meeting must be in morning of weekends – so all players may attend, English and German))

Pay:
Monks are volunteer positions, gaining money by crafting and selling items to the other Parishes or the Public. Church needs are mandatory for the benefit of all and should be given freely as a Tithe (see Paladins), it will be duly appreciated and recognized.

Paladins:
Convene as a Group to elect the “Guardian” in any way they see fit. Only one Guardian is elected from each group of Paladins per Diety.

A Paladin is called “Lord” or “Lady” to denote their Role in the Church.
The Guardian is called “High Lord” or “High Lady” to denote their Role.

Duties:
The Paladins enforce the ‘Will’ of the High Priest, and are assisted to perform their duties by the Monks with whatever they need.
The Guardian leads his/her Paladins in the performance of their duties to their Diety and the Church and advises the High Priest.

Tithe:
Paladins are honor-bound to give their ‘High Priest’ 10% of earnings from battles in Coins or Goods. This is to help the church in it’s mission and help pay other Paladins and Priests. Your donations are duly recognized and appreciated.

In the event a High Priest is inactive, disabled, incompetent or otherwise impaired, the Abbott has the power to call for election by the Priests (if any). If there are no Priests, the Abbott will assume the duties of High Priest until a Priest is recruited. The Guardian is expected to assist the Abbot in enforcing this duty to the Death if necessary. All Guardians are expected to follow the will of the “Elder”, the “Quorum of Twelve” or the “Council of Monks” to the Death if necessary.

Pay:
Paladins are paid based on work, performance and skill. Saving Public from menaces, performing Church Missions and recognition for courage and loyalty are all recognized and paid by the Quorum of Twelve as funds become available.
    • Leadership of the Church of Gobaith
    • Image
Elder:
Leads the “Church of Gobaith” and speaks for the Church as a whole to any outside group. The Elder is the Highest form of Spiritual Leadership in the Church and therefore represents all the Gods and Goddesses in Gobaith, but most especially, as Chairman on the Quorum of "Eleven and Five".

How chosen:
Elders must first be members of the “Quorum” and are nominated by anyone from the Quorum, even themself.
A “Council of Monks” must be convened immediately to vote for the nominees. The Majority Vote decides the next Elder.

The Elder is called “Elder” or "Elder Father" to denote their Role.

Duties:
The Elder leads the church in the performance of its duties. They speak for the church and negotiates treaties and arrangements. They serve as chairman of the “Quorum of Eleven and Five” and vote only in the case of a tie. The Elder may Veto the will of the Quorum. They also direct the High Priests in the performance of their ‘Parish’ duties.

The Elder handles the Treasury of the Church, but only touches it at direction of the Quorum. He must publish a monthly treasury report at each meeting of the Quorum and a Budget of expenses.

An Elder may be substituted as requested by an “High Priest” of his/her Parish just like “High Priests”, but he must communicate all needs and treasury reports to the substitute Elder, so he can perform the Elder’s duties at the meeting.

An Elder serves indefinitely until a new election is called by any member of the Quorum, or Death. Good Elders will stay, Bad ones will go quickly.
In the event an Elder is inactive, disabled, incompetent or otherwise impaired, the Quorum has the Duty to call for an election. If there is no Quorum, the Abbotts (Abbesses) will assume the duties of Quorum until a High Priest is elected by their Parish.

A retired Elder becomes a Priest for their Diety once again. No other Title or Honors need to be given. They may be elected as High Priest and/or Elder again by proper methods.

Pay:
Elders, like Priests, are paid based on Merit, works and skill with the public ((RP)) as determined by the Quorum of Twelve.

Quorum of "Eleven and Five":
Convene as a Group at least once per Dwarven Month, to decide upon Laws, positions and all matters of the Church. They are all ‘High Priests’ or substitutes of their Diety.
No title is necessary. High Priests are already called “Father” or “Mother”.

Duties:
The Quorum as a whole discuss and decide any and all matters concerning the Church, Current Issues or Spirituality. They are overseen by the Elder, who ‘chairs’ or leads the meeting but only votes in case of a tie. He also mediates disputes between individual High Priests or their substitutes.

The Elder may veto any resolution by the Quorum, but the Quorum may counter the Veto with a 2/3 vote.

Any member of the Quorum, at any time, may nominate a new Elder and call for a “Council of Monks” to vote for him/her. The “Council of Monks” has the right to vote for the current Elder or a nominee, and enforced by the Paladins.

Brother Bor,

Please understand, due to the sensitivity of most people to your God, I must take extra precautions to your worthiness. I am sure you are an Honorable Orc.

I must ask to meet you, along with two others who know you. If they vouch for your good or neutral character, and you pass my questions, then I shall welcome you within our church. I can meet most days.
((Daily 4pm-7pm GMT or 4am-7am GMT))

Let me know when you and two others well-known persons can meet. I will meet you in a place you choose.

I pray you pass these tests and can represent what is good in Moshran, not Evil.

Many Humble Thanks,
~Elder Thyme

Avatar Thyme,

I believe I attempted to help to do something similar as you a long time ago, but it never took off in my hands. I wish you the best in your attempt. The knighthood of Gobaith also has an alter in their castle which can be offered for masses done by your priests. We could also supply your temple with what ever goods we can offer if need be. Also, I hereby offer my services as a paladin of Bragon so long as you can find a priest to bestow such a title upon me.

Sir Dantagon,

Your words are an Honor to me and us within ths humble church. Just the other day, I recieved a dove, that you would wait to see what happens. I am glad to see that we have proven wisdom and competence to you.

Thank you for your words and offer of help. We shall need weapons and armor for our Paladins, as well as use of the Altar there.

Which God is worshipped there? May we locate a Parish of that Diety there to clean, maintain and hold regular rituals there?

Yes, we are seeking Priests of the individual Gods and Goddesses of "The Five", however, because their followers are few, and small....we have decided to combine the "Five" only for 'organization'. If there can be found a "Priest of Bragon", he shall be recognized as such, but for now, a priest of the "Five" must suffice.

As Elder, my position will represent the Five on the Quorum of Twelve, and elected by the 'Body' of the church, therefore may have more 'weight'. I will happily grant you the Oath of a Paladin, nay...Guardian...if you wish. Or, just get in touch with Father Aeridor.

With Humble thanks and appreciation,
~Elder Thyme,
Church of Gobaith

I will let the decision of Guardian or Paladin rest upon your shoulders. I am just glad to serve my god as best as I can.

As for the alter, I shall have to discuss it more with my fellow knight. Last we discussed it was okay if priests were to hold masses there, as of now the alter remains undeticated and we have not thought of which god or goddess to deticate it to.

I can see what I can do about armor and weapons, but my priority is getting weapons and armor out to the knighthood. I suggest you speak to Mark Strongarm about weapons and armor as he smiths most of it.

A nicely and perfect written parchment is pinned on the wall by a massive orc.

My greetings, priests that honor our All-Father Moshran.
I, Warlord of the orcs, offer to represent the greatness and nobless of our father in this council that you have humbly formed, as his noble warrior champion.
May He smile upon us and protect us from our enemies.

Hail Warrior!

Please understand that the "Bone Lord" is a sensitive issue with the rest of peoples, and I must handle your application with care.

I ask that I meet you, and also two friends who know and can vouch for your Good or Neutral nature, as well as answer some questions I have for you.

Only with care, can we ensure that the Bone-Lord's "Goodness" can be served for all to see, and finally respect.

Thank you, and I look forward to meeting you brave warrior.

In Humble thanks,
~Elder Thyme

I hear heresy on every parchment of yours I read, Mr Thyme. I call you Mr for you are no Father, or you should show fidelity to the Gods by honouring them with single temples and their own Church, rather than trying to mould them into one in a doomed plan. But the greatest of these heresies I have seen is in your proclaiming yourself an 'Avatar' the very image of a God! You are no avatar, for you show little of divine wisdom, and none of divine power. You are but a deluded man with dreams of grandeaur and of this I am now convinced.

May Eldan lead your from your folly,

Hail Expleti Carthusiana,

I am saddened by your words, for they show your narrow vision of what our church represents. Perhaps I have not fully explained the Church yet, but it is new. However, these words may hurt your own cause and may your chance to bring followers to Eldan.

Never fear, we shall endeavor to carry forth to bring people to Eldan. Our church is an organization of 'Branches' which we call "Parishes", which are separate and 'independent' from one another. The "Church" asks them to combine in deed alone, to fulfill a wholistic betterment of Gobaith. Let me provide an example.

The Followers of Oldra grow and collect food, then:
The Followers of Irmorom craft plates and Goblets, then:
The Followers of Adron brew Beer and ciders, then:
The Followers of Sirani pass them to the Poor.

The Missions of the "Church of Gobaith" uses the Diety's strengths to complement each other, to serve and unify, not divide. The followers of a Diety are not asked to serve another, nor are the Dieties in danger. The "Church" has brought them together, yet apart.

I pray you see the wisdom of this philosophy and desist in these slanders against that which you know little of.

In humble prayer for wisdom and understanding,
~Elder Justin N. Thyme

P.S. - My Title does not bestow 'God-ship', but is an appropriate title for a "Guardian and Advocate" of the Gods. It is an Honor to represent the Gods in our Church, and this title displays the significant imporatnce and responsibility of the position. As the highest in the Church, I am the lowest, for I serve others because I serve the Gods. Ponder this, 'Expleti'.

Dear Thyme,

While my brother's words may have been harsh, they are a mere product of the experience of the purity of spirit. In haste, he may have forgot that the world in which this operates is not guided by our Lord. His words are those of hope, but sometimes the pain can be overbearing.

I beg you for your understanding in this matter, for hopes of a better future.

Greetings there,

As a Guardian of Malachin, I'd like to extend an offer to Mister Thyme. Perhaps I could meet with you soon to give a few donations to you? It seems the Paladin's equipment section is running a bit dry.

Signed,

High Lord Rothman,

I would be happy to meet with you. You can always find me near the Tailoring workshop in TrollsBane, or I'll see you at our meeting in one dwarven day.

I would like to give a hearty welcome to Father Josquin Byrd, who has just become our high priest to Zhambra. His lessons of loyalty, friendship and comradship, will be powerful and imporatant. Many thanks to father Vian for finding and recruiting this new priest to our shores.

Please view the "Contests" on the internal boards. There is a way to earn Hundreds of Silvers for doing your duty as Priests, Monks and Paladins. I really think this will encourage the work of our church to continue and allow rewards for it. I encourage everyone to apply for them.

Also, I must postpone the meeting of the Quorum for a few dwarven days. ((Sunday 8pm GMT)) I must attend a meeting of importance and cannot attend. Lets discuss matters on the internal Boards until the next meeting.

Many Humble Thanks,
~Father Justin N. Thyme
Elder of the Church of Gobaith

A hearty thanks goes to Father Aidin Darksilver, who has decided to retire as Abbot of Sirani, in favor of becoming a priest for Ronagan. His mission does not include thieving, but collecting information.

Hopefully we can find more people to help Mother Opalin.

Welcome to the Quorum of Twelve father Darksilver!
